Hey everyone! I'm super excited to be using the Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG DN Art lens today on the Sony A7IV. We are doing natural light portrait photography in the studio with some fun ideas I had to bring the outdoors inside :) Do you have this lens? Let me know what you think about it!

Thank you for watching!
I love this lens, I bought it 4 months ago. Very sharp and fast.
That lens looks great! The model was fantastic! And I would LOVE to see more studio shoots. Thanks!
Always nice to see My favorite 📸 Julia at work ! Awesome 👌 as always 😃
Definitely a fan of the studio shoots and the lens quality seems great. Your work is great
These are beautiful!! Bella is an amazing model! Awesome staging and makeup too!!
The series lying on the floor followed by sitting in front of the window are my favs. Sigma tackles those looks very well.
I just love my sigma 35mm 1.4 dg dn art 😍 I love the image quality and the bokeh, even though it’s only a 35mm 😍😊
Great shooting Julia! I bought a nifty fifty 1.8 for my A7iv and have a Tamron 17-28 f2.8. It's amazing how more faster a shutter speed that you can get below 2.8. Thanks for sharing!
I think it doesn't matter what lens you have on your camera. Your pictures and videos are always gorgeous! And I believe that this model is the most beautiful woman the world has ever seen!
I love your sessions and at the end of every video I’m always learning new ways of either posing or something about lighting 😌
Wow. Favourites? All of them? Your shots and model were stunning.
I‘m absolutely in love with the results 😍
Great video. And those pictures were so sweet😮💨
just got mine sigma 35mm its so good paired with my a7iv☺️ always watching your video Julia..cheers!
Hi Julia! Awesome as usual! It was tough picking faves for this shoot, but here they are... At 1:47, 2:07, 3:04, 6:00 the color of Bella's eyes were brought out more. Also 7:40 and 9:33! If "Bella" translates to the Spanish meaning, she definitely is! Till next time, bye! :-)
I have this exact setup and love it! Great video as always Julia!
The model is beautiful, and you can tell she is an experienced model. Very nicely done, ladies! 💕
Beautiful as always!! Love the studio sessions from you because it's not your usual but you STILLLLLL shine! More please!
Ahh thank you, I appreciate it!
I was beginning to worry that the mirrorless lens were leaving behind the balance of having natural look all for the extreme sharpness and the high megapixels, but seeing your video gave me some hope. I have a Canon r6 and I'm hoping sigma will bring out some awesome lenses that will provide such beautiful natural balances like what you showed here. Thank you for making this!
Unfortunately it may be a while since Canon was being such jerks about allowing 3rd party lens makers access
Price performance wise the SIgma is a winner. Premium features and image quality. Much better than the old version, lighter than the Tamron 35mm 1.4 and much cheaper than the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM. The pictures are indistinguable from the Sony when using for portraits.. you gotta pixelpeep. Been using it for a month and couldn't be happier.
Hey Julia, is there a lot of difference between the sigma and the G Master? And can you show us how you record your camera screen?
Hope to see a comparison video between this lens and tha GM from you Julia. That would be awesome.
amazing model and photos :)
really good inspiration for a styled shoot! 🥰
Thank you!! I had so much fun putting this all together :D
I really like it 😇❤
I have an incoming shoot with the same concept as this. Thank you so much this is really timely for me. 🤗
I just purchased this lens, but also have the Samyang 1.8 - I’m debating which to keep between the two because the Samyang is awesome for the price point.
Love this combination of lens and body.... One doubt I would like to clarify is this combination is good for wedding photography. Specifically sony a7 4.
Picked this lens three months ago and so sharp and versatile
You’re definitely the best lens reviewer on youtube! Instead of shooting test charts and jabbering on and on about technical stuff, you just get right into shooting. It’s super satisfying and interesting to watch.
Hi Julia. Thank you very much for this beautiful video. I bought both the Sony A7 IV and the Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens. I am very happy now that I have watched your video. Which Lightroom presents should I buy from you for similar result please?
I've been waiting for you to use this lens 😂 Just bought it yesterday
Omg you're the 2nd person who picked this lens up yesterday! I loved using it, hope you enjoy it too!
I got the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 lens and I absolutely love it. Only issue I have is the weight as it is very heavy but love the shots I get with it.
you think that's heavy?.. maybe full frame is the wrong system for you then
Love this! Would you be able to provide a link to the backdrop that you’re using or something similar please!
Great and detailed video 👏. I like the photo the most at minute 2:08.
Gorgeous lens!
Great video. Have you had any overheating issues with your A7iv yet?
Відео просто супер ) Гарні фото 😍
Hello, I'm from Indonesia I am very impressed with you. You are very experienced in trying various camera lenses and I want to ask you about the best lenses for wedding & pre-wedding photos according to your experience, including lenses :
"Sigma 35mm DN DG,
"Samyang 35mm FE II or
"Zeiss 35mm ZA
please provide the best lens solution for me to use when working in the world of wedding photography,...
I hope you can help me with the answers... Thank you :-) 🙏
This is one of my favorite lenses to use!
I loved it!
Great video Julia, love the backdrop, do you have a link to where you purchased it? Thank you
Lovely portraits Julia. What's the name of that studio?
Hi Julia! Looking forward to your review of Sigma “I” series 35mm F2 DG DN on A7iv. Also a comparison video of Sony 35mmF1.8 FE vs Samyang 35mmF1.8 FE vs Sigma 35mmF2 DG DN would be really helpful.
Amazing session, Julia! What were your camera settings for this shoot?
That's so nice post !
wow i love this, do you still use auto white balance for this ?
Great video. Lens is looking awesome, but i would like to see comparison with the gm or your opinion about what to pick and why, because the price difference is quite huge and it looks like this lens can do 90% of what the gm can. And you should definitely try sigma 85 in the future, because that lens is beast. 😁
Thank you! And I'm working on that video, that's the outdoor shoot I did - a comparison with both lenses ;) it should be ready in a couple of weeks! And yess I will slowly start using all Sigma lenses now, can't wait to try the 85mm.
Hoping for u to test the sigma 85mm f1.4 as well
Yes for sure! I haven't used it yet, but I want to try it out next :)
Hi Julia! What Picture profile didi you use on these Photoshoot?
Hi Julia! I just got my Sigma 35mm 1.4 dg dn art for my a7iv but im having trouble with the manual focus, it just doesn't work. Have the sony 24-104 f4 where the manual focus works perfectly but the sigma just doesn't. Will contact support but was just wondering if you've had any problems with the manual focus?
I currently have a Canon 5D Mark IV and shoot both photos and videos.. Should I switch to Sony for a better Photo+Video shooting experience?
Yes
Hopefully the the new firmware update for the camera has improved the autofocus especially with eye autofocus in these portrait scenarios.
Beautiful work
Thank you so much 😀
Hi Julia! I am actually struggling in picking either this lens or Sigma 35mm 1.2, since you have tested both of them, which one would you pick? is the 1.2 worth extra 500grams? I have seen that you use Raven Eye, so i guess that you own a gimbal as well, and would like to know if you might tried to balance 35mm 1.2? :) Great work and reviews, keep it going and stay healthy :)
I would personally go for the 1.4 version as its smaller and lighter plus both versions have great image quality/sharpness/performance. I don't really see a huge difference in bokeh with f1.4 vs f1.2 either, so even though I own this lens I don't actually take it out as much as I would have liked. Not sure if you saw both my 35 1.2 videos but I have one where I compared it to the GM 35mm f1.4 where you can see the bokeh difference for yourself. Hope that helps! And no, I don't use a gimbal so I can't help there!
Great video...thanks for this!
Just bought this lens
I just pick this Art lens yesterday!!!
Ooh love that timing haha hope you're enjoying it!
@@juliatrotti many thanks Julia
May I ask you if you are using awb or a different setting? I just got camera and playing in studio with my flashpoint lights and the awb seems to be very flat but just started playing with it more due to being slow right now. Nothing like my nikon. Thank you and enjoy learning from the videos.
My fav combo! I returned the 35 GM for the Sigma 35 1.4 DG DN (saving $700) 😂...
Sigma 35 f1.2 was better choice
I sold my Sigma 1.2 and bought the 1.4. The difference is not worth the extra 700€.
And the the length and weight is just to much for a 35mm.
This lens is a real gem! I have a comparison video I'm working on between this and the GM, can't wait to share it :D
I also own the Sigma 1.2 and while it's a beautiful lens, it's quite heavy and I wouldn't use it as a general 35mm for that reason. I take it out on "special occasions" haha for like portraits here and there when I specifically want that look.
Amazing content Julia! I've always been wondering how do you record your camera screen while shooting, and the fact that you're not using an external device?
@@andyelement alright thanks man
How did she record it?
Hello, how did you make same time photoshoot, and videoshoot with out any videosender or recorder? what app did you use?
I am getting to know my Sony 35mm 1.4 and during that proces I am falling in love more and more with that lens. No Sigma 35mm anymore for me ;-)
Do you use electronic first curtain shutter in a portrait session like this?
Can You Tell Me Which Is The One And Only Best Budget Lens Both For Videography And Photography For The Sony ZV-E10?
Im using sony a7iii is it compatible to use E MOUNT lens or it should be FE ?
Can you make a video on Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art DG & DG DN on Sony a7IV plzz
Better samyang 35mm f1.4 MK2 or sigma ? 🙏
I personally prefer the Sigma. Has cleaner bokeh and is a bit faster with focusing.
Great shoot.. but I would prefer if you were the model Julia ♥️
Cool🎉
Is this the new version for mirrorless and not the one with like an adapter built in?
Yes, this is the mirrorless version!
I would stay with the lowest iso just to harness optimum DR the camera has
why do you use iso 350/400 in these photos when it look like you have plenty of room in your shutter speed?
I wanted to leave NO room for motion blur as Bella moves fast and I like to capture those movement shots - a good example is the full body shot of her kicking her leg up. You can also have your ISO quite high on the A7IV before you start seeing noise.
Can you tell me the measurements of this fabric? Wide and length
How do you deal with the distortion in Lightroom? I’m ready to sell this lens because it’s heavy piching.
There is a profile in LR?
very good
Please tell me how reliable is Sony A7 IV? I want to sell my Canon 5D Mark IV and all the lenses to switch to Sony due to the fact that all my friends shoot with Sony and I can borrow lenses from them, and I also need a modern, reliable and convenient camera for constant work. I heard that Sony cameras are not very reliable, is it true?
Man the lens is good but colors are flat compared to Sony 35mm 1.4 I like that you empathized the sharpness for portraits. That's why don't under stand when people say the 85mm 1.4 is not sharp enough.
I actually loved the colours I got straight out of camera on this day, the files were sooo easy to work with. Also - the outdoor shoot I was talking about is a comparison between this Sigma and the GM - I should be finished editing that video soon so I will upload it in a couple of weeks :D Also are you referring to the GM 85mm or the Sigma?
@@juliatrottinice can't wait. I was talkin about GM 85 1.4
Pls you do golen light photography with sigma 35mm l love your viedos..
That's what I did for my outdoor photoshoot with this lens! I'm currently working on the video, it will be ready in a couple of weeks :)
Make a zeiss batis review please
Hallo, why ISO 320 ? Thank you 😊
Bella moves around fast so I wanted to leave no room for any motion blur! The A7IV handles noise well too, so you're not going to see much/any noise at 320.
Do your shoot raw or jpeg on your A7iv and if you shoot raw , what software do you edit the raw file on ?
I love you
I own this lens, but I feel like it has quite heavy distortion. when I try the lens profile in lightroom, it just makes distortion weird, like when the model is closer to the edges it stretches her face from the sides.
the other thing I noticed about correcting with lens profile is that I can make an image straight by judging it horizontally or vertically. the image doesn't look straight overall.
What do you think?
solution: don't put faces on the edges... 🤦♂
To me this sounds like general 35mm issues. Distortion, stretching if you put your subject on the edge of the frame and lack of straight lines happens with any 35mm focal length. I specifically use a 35 because I like the distortion. I also never place my subject on the edge of a frame, as you can see in this shoot I pretty much always keep Bella closer to the centre of the frame. And I would use a longer lens if I want straighter lines OR fix it up by skewing the image in photoshop!
maybe its the a7iv who miss focus :D
Does this lens has image stabilization?
