This was the best roller coaster in Melbourne and now it's gone😂😭😭
Nah dude it's the Scenic Railway. Best Wooden coaster in this country from 1912 till they opened Leviathan.
Also Project Zero and TNT at Gumbuya World are fairly good modern ones if you can get there to ride them.
Love the trademark Robb Alvey "Whee!" at the end! I was wondering where it was! Don't ever change and just a friendly reminder to everyone that there is a mute button if the commentary bugs. @@johngriswold4303 Mini Coaster 1 still hasn't been fixed yet. Check where your mechanics are, and consider organizing them better.
When I went to Luna Park, there was a different roller coaster in this one's place. I don't know what it was called or the coaster type but it had a section where the cart would start spinning while moving. When I went on that rode though, it scared me so much.
That was the fucken Crazy Coaster.... So disappointing Luna Park is managed badly today. They need new permanent thrill rides, not temporary crap.
Someone nearly died on it, so they removed it ;-;

The Crazy Coaster that you still see at the Melbourne Show occasionally use to be temporarily installed for a few months during the summer holidays.

This is the first coaster I ever went on! I believe it used to be at the now defunct Footrot Flats/Leisure Land in Auckland, NZ, and went by the name 'Cannonball Run'. Fun little ride.
This ride is epic! So much fun! You nearly jump out of your seat. Epic!

This is the Italian-made Galaxi coaster. They're all over the world. A small amusement park near me (Sylvan Beach, NY) has one. It still delivers a few thrills.
On the other hand, it's the park that caused that infamous "You know someone died on this Roller Coaster and it had this massive accident that injured 20 people" Urban Legend..... Yes... Hard to believe but it was the mid-80s on the Scenic Railway! It originally operated with 6 trains on the track at any given time, but the breaksman fucked up and they had a derailment. This is why today, they are only allowed to use 1 or 2 trains. Not to mention the massive fire that engulfed the Giggle Palace.
nope, the woodie has always been known as the Scenic Railway. This Metropolis ride is itself a Mad Mouse rollercoaster, and simular rides elsewhere are mostly called Mad Mouses. Unless you are confusing this park with Luna Park Sydney, which has an older wooden coaster called Mad Mouse(and is obviously a wooden predecessor to steel ride that's the subject of this video). This video is shot at Luna Park Melbourne, which is over 35 years older than the Sydney counterpart.
It's a galaxy Coaster, AW I miss the one they had at Canobie lake Park in Salem NH. Was sad to see it go it was one of my favorites.
They've announced it now, and the dismantling work has begun. There's definitely a new coaster coming and the rumor currently is that the park will pick up a second Coney Island Themed ride, this time a rollercoaster, from Zamperla. currently it's believed to be a perminantly installed Crazy Coaster.
Sorry, I meant the steel one, rode them both about 20 years ago, and could have sorn it was called Mad Mouse. I will be at Luna Park (Melb) next sunday, I will video the wooden track... large pieces of it move and jump around as the cars go over the dips!! Thanks for your insight.

umm... kind funny now, because THIS RIDE IS PROBABLY BEING REPLACED!!!!! I'm not kidding.... Luna Park have announced that part of their 100th anniversary celebrations will include a Metropolis "shake-up"(interpret that how you will). People I know with good ideas about that are interpreting it to mean a new coaster is on the way for the summer season..... Makes sense as the ride's parts supplies may be now running dry.
No, it's always been called "Metropolis", however the ride type is a "Steel Mad Mouse Roller Coaster". So it's likely what you remember is someone referring to it as a "mad mouse rollercoaster", which of cause it is, or perhaps you rode a simular ride(say the one at the Melbourne Show, which IS called "Mad Mouse"). But the formal name is Metropolis and always has been(or at least since 1994/5 when I first visited the park).
LPM have announced that something is going to happen to this rollercoaster at the end of the year, as part of their 100th anniversary.... Rumour has it a new more modern steel coaster is on the way. That or this ride is going to recieve some serious restorative work, and will probably get new trains... who knows? From the way they're talking though, most believe they're totally replacing the coaster.
I have now been informed they will put a permanent ride, possibly another rollercoaster, in this position, but due to logistics/planning and space restrictions they have not yet done this. But there will be a new ride in this spot ready for next summer that will be built after Circus of Screams is wrapped up. Why they didn't plan an immediate permanent replacement is beyond me. Perhaps they were trying to buy a ride but couldn't get the sale through in time?
There's been no announcement yet, but the announcement is actually expected this month, aling with their 100th anniversary announcements.

I love balcony catwalks in the left side of a lift hill. I mean they make this ride sound more classic than its age. What if this thing runs in a green plant, scrapping into leaves coming up? That's more garden style. =)

Though really, there's no risk at all of them collapsing... The two rides are quite safe, but ironically I almost did my back the last time I rode Scenic Railway because I'm 6+ foot tall and the 100 year old train's legroom left alot to be desired.... Still loved it!

Which one? The Docklands "Paramount Studios" 1999 proposal? or African Safari World? The Docklands park was going to actually buy the Cyclone, but when it fell through, Dreamworld picked up the ride instead. Eventually Melbourne will get a theme park, as Warner Villiage is still looking to expand into Victoria and the other states and are currently building Wet n' wild Sydney. Legoworld is tipped to come to Australia soon and they might build it in Melbourne!
Last year they took it out but there is going to be a new ride at that spot due this coming summer.

Personally I think our best chance is convincing the american theme park company Six Flags that melbourne would be a good place to open up the inevitable(the name is so cool, it's just destined to happen one day) Six Flags Downunder!

TheBloggme it takes millions of dollars to build a roller coaster and building one that’s over 400 feet tall is even harder. They gave that up cuz it was too risky.

Look all, luna park is apart of melb's and Australia's history, this is where the first luna park in the whole of Australia built, And i know it's not the best amusment park ever but come on at least we have something to look back and say"Hey i remember when i was a kid, i used to come here some times" or somthin like that.......just sayin

Well this ride did need to be scrapped... it was old when they bought it.... But LPM needs a large new coaster, they won't spend a dime getting one though, instead they just rent fairground rides for temporary attractions these days. They really should cut their ties with those "attractions" companies and just buy their own permanent stuff from Zamperla(as they did with the Coney Island Drop in 2010), but they bloody won't.
Jeez, im so sick and tired of all these "First!" comments. Just stop please! and stop arguing! just watch the video of the rollercoaster, which, by the way, doesnt sound that smooth, but otherwise its good!
The reason why this ride was close down was because people got stuck on the top oh the roller coaster and been stuck there for at least 4 to 5 hours i know this because it happened to me my dad and orther people on the ride the problem was that the chain lift was bended on one of the chains and the whelld was too old and didnt work well so when the ride got to the top it made this metal banding saound then the ride would go keep going on with that noice then when it heading up for its last drop it stops i remember when i was there stuck on it for 5 hours they haded to bring in the fire department to bring us back down so yeah i love this ride now its gone pls like this comment for this helpful reason why its close

Well, luna park only have one rollercoaster they've built, they dont have room to bulid one so they hire ones to keep guest entertained

The worst "Theme Park Swerve" for me was Paramount Studios Docklands....
Fuck the plans for that were going to be awesome.... Our own version of the famous Indiana Jones Ride! A Star Trek(Borg themed) Roller coaster! and there was talk of the Jurassic Park Ride too!
Then Bracks got elected and it was all just thrown out the window...
Not sure who's fault it was...but I would understand if it was the Labor Party's fault. They seemed to screw it over in favor of property development.
Why did this park remove this coaster, now the only good coaster is scenic railway.

that's just a generic galaxy coaster. a park out n Albuquerque has one that is in really good condition. doesn't rattle or shake and is a slightly higher than this one.
It's only a temporary replacement... which is fucked because LPM should have perminantly replaced it with a new ride. They need MORE permanent rides, not less!
Unfortunatly they are on(the land is leased) Crown Land, and are surrounded by it as well... they will never expand unless Lindsay Fox is approved for his redevelopment of the Palais... which willl not happen.... Which is fucked, because frankly that theatre should be bulldosed(I hate live music... so not a fan of the Palais) and LPM should be expanded as well as a new shopping/entertainment area should be built....
