Awesome list. The Carroll Smith books are practically required reading for young engineers coming up through Formula SAE/Formula Student (at least they were when I went through that in undergrad). Another fun book I might add is "The Anatomy and Development of the Sports Prototype Racing Car" by Ian Bamsey. It's a fantastic technically-oriented retrospective of the Group C era. Great depth of exploration while still leaving room for storytelling and showcasing the evolution of design throughout the era by letting the vehicle designs speak for themselves.

Thanks Ben, you have an amazing library! I got interested in the build-your-own Lotus Seven idea, based on Ron Champion's "buld a sports car for 250 pounds" book. He was a UK shop teacher who inspired the whole "Locost Seven" movement. In that vein, I also really like Kimini and Midlana books. Kimini is a description of buildign a tube-chassis mini with mid-engined Honda power. It's more of a general recipe for building a mid-engined car. The second book, Midlana, is more of a cook book for building a mind-engine Lotus Seven, again using transverse FWD drivetrain (Honda in the one the aurthor built). Both books aer writen with a ton of clarity not only about the design, but all the decisions and philosophy behind the design.

Great stuff! I’ll have to check out a few more, have a few of these myself, and they’re irreplaceable when it comes to period car design and information

"Go like hell" - Words uttered by Bruce McLaren to Chris Amon after negotiating to not use the Firestone sponsored tires at Le Mans in 1966 since they were delaminating at 200 mph and switching to the Good Years used by the rest of the GT40s.
