What I find for most people who claim not to like country music is that, in reality, what they don't like is the caricature of country music in their mind. At any point, contemporary country, since at least the 50s, has been largely whatever was considered rock 10-15 years prior, with elements of pop and blues. Country has ALWAYS been much more diverse than those who only graze the surface allow themselves to experience, and the storytelling has consistently outpaced that of other genres. Fortunately, I was raised embracing the eclectic music of a fiddle-playing Great Grandfather, Grandparents who loved jazz (esp. Big Band), blues, country and gospel, Dad's bluegrass and country western, and Mom's rock, Motown and country, along with the rock legends of the 70s & 80s. It always amuses me how much many limit their access to great music with artificial constraints. Great music is great music in any genre!!!
You are right about country following a decade or so behind mainstream rock and pop. Young people today listening to CCR, and Eagles, and Seger, hear country. Hard to slot things into current commercial categories when one listens for 50 years.
This was a 50 year anniversary tribute to the 1972 Doobie Brothers classic. I grew up listening and loving the original and this is a super version that is very enjoyable to listen to. Your are correct this is a great upbeat feel good song. Adam Rupp shows why you do not have to buy a drum set to sound great. Thank you for your reaction and you have a blessed day
I've been listening to Home Free for a couple of years now. Until this song, I didn't really understand why I liked them so much. The title is "Listen to the music" . After listening to their version, it dawned on me that even though there's no "music" Home Free makes you not care it's not there
I am not an acapella fan or a country fan but i love everything Home Free does and really wish you would react to more from them. You really seem to enjoy the songs i have seen you react to from them, just dive deeper!!!
They're just special! I haven't seen if you've checked out one of their other new releases.....called "Brother", it's one of their best with an awesome video!
Great reaction! I grew up on classic rock & am a big fan of the Doobie Brothers & had their albums. "Listen To The Music" was a big hit for them back in 1972. Love that Home Free is keeping this great music alive & introducing it to the younger generation. The guys did a really nice job of this song. Austin was great for the lead & loved the background harmonies of Rob, Chance & Tim's bass. Adam killed it on the vocal percussion again. He always comes up with some new & interesting sounds. Adam is doing the high notes as you can see in the slowed down section.
yeah the live shows are amazing. got to see them at the indiana state fair in august 2021 and they blow us away especially the bass. tim blew the subwoofers up these guys have not done a bad song yet and i can see they never will either. home free is the best
Love your HF reactions. Please do more! Try Sea Shanty Medley, Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, Hillbilly Bone, Mayday. Try Everything (that's one of their songs, but it's also my advice for HF reactions). :)
I've missed your Home Free reactions Chris! Missed your break down and analysis. This is a brilliant cover - so good! Home Free is actually playing in Anaheim tonight! San Diego, Stockton, and Santa Ynez after that. Thanks. 🖤🍟
Fantastic enthusiastic reaction. Oh My God TIM. We all can hear Adam just nailing percussion as always, but Tim haroomping and booming in the background is stunning. When he is on screen you can watch him do something he always does, he basically conducts his own voice, using his hand movements to indicate his lows and highs, and it is fascinating. Watch again for his self-direction. Amazing. And Adam doing that high, almost whistle tone sound in the breakdown is a revelation. These boys cannot be stopped.
He and Austin both. Have you watched "My Maria" on Austin's channel? And "Blue Ain't Your Colour" must have driven them NUTS with not being able to move their arms the way they usually do!
I'm always watching a capella singers and their hand movements! A lot of them do it. It's like a vocal navigation tool. The same goes for Adam and his beatboxing. So not only do they sound amazing, their fascinating to watch in the videos where they are mostly standing in one place and singing!
At last...I can finally rest. The remaining member of my triumvirate of Home Free reactors has finally reacted to this amazing song. Most songs, even HF's, can reach a point in my mind where I don't mind hitting the "next track" button on my player. NOT THIS ONE. I just cannot get enough of this song. And now, with the reaction of @larryshair, I can sleep well, knowing that the best Home Free reactors on UA-cam have experienced this incredible version of a classic song.
Home Free is in Anaheim California tonight 9 - 13. Check out the tour schedule, they are in and around your driving area for a few dates. Adam Chance lives in Long Beach 🤞😃
Hi from South Africa... I love your reactions to HF. Your enthusiasm n facial expressions make me smile from ear to ear. Thank you for making my day brighter. 💕 🎵❤️
It's amazing the Doobie Brothers used guitars, two drum sets, keyboards, and other instruments to create this iconic song and 50 yrs later HF made it a classic once again using only Adam and their own vocal talents. Love all the new sounds Adam added including that beautiful high note at the beginning and during the breakdown. He looked like he really enjoyed making this video and I'm sooo happy to see the bandanas are back.
Yes, they were in San Diego this past Wednesday, and Anaheim the night before. The first and second shows of their new tour. They rocked, especially Adam R. The drum solo is unbelievable.....that a person can do that.....just the breath control alone is astonishing.
Larry, Home Free was in Anaheim, Stockton, and San Diego within the last 10 days. I flew from Las Vegas to San Diego last week to see them. Needless to say, they were incredible.
Thank you for the shout out and I always enjoy your reactions. I heard you ask about Tim's vocal range before "Mayday" I think is what you might be looking for. I think you will be amazed that whole group can sing tenor. They also do a fantastic cover of "End of the Road" either of these songs will knock your socks off.
Hi Larry! My son and I are going to see them in October in Williamsport PA. He bought the VIP1 tickets so we'll get to meet them. I can't wait. Great reaction.
I've already purchased my tickets for their performance on Dec 28th in Stafford, TX. (Christmas Tour along with Texas Hill). You would probably enjoy watching their video of "Brother." In that video their LARPing. Thanks for your reactions.
Loved this in 1972. Love it today. Smilin' and dancin'. Seems like they can do any kind of music. I have visions of tuning in some day and finding Austin and Rob doing "Nessun Dorma". I have to say I would not be surprised. Ha!
I just went to a concert last week, it such a great live show!! Not sure what is close to you but they are in California now. 9/13 - Anaheim, CA 9/14 - San Diego, CA 9/15 - Stockton, CA 9/16 - Santa Ynez, CA
I looked back through your Home Free reactions and didn't see, "Home Free's Adam Rupp's drum solo." I don't think I overlooked it. Would love to see you react to Adam's drum solo. Love your channel.
I wasn't on UA-cam at the time but when I got notified that you were reacting to Home Free I popped on over to visit..😊 Great reaction as usual. I well remember when this song was on the radio. It was just a great easy listening song that I could sing along with. No, you wouldn't want to hear me! 🤢 Have a nice day!
Watching the joy on your face made me grin from ear to ear. Awesome reaction. Also, how ironic they're playing in Anaheim the same night you posted this video.
1972 when "The Doobie Brothers" released the original. Great reaction! Now, return to the original. In no way was this disco... they, as always, paid homage to the original!!! This is why they are the BEST!!! They honor where they come from, they celebrate all genres, and they are the best!!!
It was put on the market in 1972, so it's a 50 years old song. The Doobie Brothers were known to have two drummers, Adam Rupp fell into the kettle as an infant , so . . .
The Dobbie Brothers brought out this song in 1972. I don't know if you noticed but I believe that Adam Rupp the beatboxer is singing the high note. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song. They have done all of the California shows for this year. There was Anaheim, San Diego, Stockton and San Yenze.
This is always a feel good tune, but Home Free adds extra fun that you just never expect. Like Adam adding the high tones in the beginning and different places in the song. But how he adds things like the DJ scratching and other beatboxing sounds that most people would NEVER think to put in. His creative mind is fascinating. Thanks for another wonderful reaction!
1973 is closer. Doobies had 2 sets of drums 3-4 guitars (and sometimes horns) and HF managed to respect the original but put their spin on it. One of their best feel good covers for me. And they seem to be having such a fun time singing this song. Look at their smiles!
Yeah this isn't your daddy/grandpa's kind of acapella, it's really amazing listening to what they can do vocally without the instruments now. You really don't miss the instruments because it sounds so clean and full. They are actually in CA doing shows now.
Adam killed it. His beatboxing was crazy good. The Doobie Brothers did this in the 70’s. Such a great remake. Loved Tim’s low notes too. Great reaction Larry. Home Free has been touring since last year. I saw them in Denver last November. I sat in the mezzanine and thought I wouldn’t hear Tim up there much. Was I wrong. It goes through you. Go to one of their concerts! 😍
Love your Home Free reactions, Larry. I agree with you - these guys, and their production team, are so ridiculously talented and versatile. I just can't seem to get enough. Love Home Free!
So much fun to watch your expressions just build. Your reactions are truly unique. Hope the job situation has resolved. I would love to see you at a concert...lol! Take care Chris. Really do love you🤗
What a great reaction! This is simply excellent again!! I have been a fan of the Doobie Brothers for a long time. This song is just timeless. It still swings. Really something for Home Free. So great sung, so great harmonies, bone-feeling musical(I call it musical bass, I don't know what else to call it haha)bass, But for me it's Adam who makes it truly phenomenal. He nailed it. The vocal percussion is just inhumane. So unbelievably good. For me the very best beatboxer/vocal percussionist/mouth artist there is.
Apparently, we now need the Second Reaction, where you just groove in appreciation. Oh… oh… oh…. LISTEN To The MUSIC. And for the Love of GOD, please don’t pause the video mid-word at the height of the chorus or breakdown. It feels like an inappropriate jarring stop to Joy!
Let the music play! Home Free is just the best--and Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is beyond belief (his higher-than-Austin harmonies aren't bad either!!) ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️
You have to see them live....you will be amazed how they sound live ... as good, or better, as their recorded releases. Adam does a drum solo with a looper now, and Tim's lows will shake your soul.
They have been on tour for years! You will be blown away hearing them live. When Tim hits those low notes, your seat vibrates.(Heck the whole place vibrates.) Then they usually let Adam Rupp do a solo thing. You'll love it. It's unforgettable. Just go to their UA-cam page and you'll find a list of their dates. They are all over the place. (I've only been once, and so wish I could afford to go again. Don't get me wrong. The ticket prices are very reasonable, but my income isn't. 😥) Thank you for posting a Home Free reaction. Don't wait so long next time. They have plenty of songs to choose from.
Love your reactions! I've been not very patiently waiting for you to do another song and you did not disappoint me. I was very young when this song came out and I thought they sang "Whoa, waltz, listen to the music." I would love to hear your take on thier other new song "Brother". I also would love you to react to "Country Roads", "In the Blood" and an old cover of theirs called "The Disney Medley". Going to see them again in Dallas in December with my daughter and son-in-law. I'm addicted.
OH, I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT!! I think you just missed them in CA. They went up the west coast, I think. I am seeing their Christmas show (with Texas Hill) in IL in December. I saw them in IN in July. They always say, "This isn't a concert......it's a PARTY!". Great reaction.
So glad you're reacting to Home Free again Larry, I've missed you. You must listen to their version of 'brother' it's fantastic, and the video is awesome and hilarious , you'll really love it. Glad you're back.🥰😅
1972!! one of my favorite songs of all time, and Home Free didn't disappoint me with this version. It is a positive, positive song, like Kodachrome, Isn't She Lovely, I'm Walkin' on Sunshine, Dixie Lily and You're Still the One. Thank you so much, Mr. Shair, Mr. Hair :D . If your true name is otherwise, let me just congratulate you on your beautiful crop
Really rough week for me, thanks for putting a smile on my face. No matter if it's rap, disco or country reaction... just spending these few minutes with you always makes me feel much better. Hope you doing well my friend, have a nice day. (or evening or whenever you read this 🙂) And the Home Free is just... wow!
I have seen them live 6 times now. And if you get the chance jump at it. My husband went to the first time seeing them just to make me happy. Since then. He comes to me and says hey the guys are going to be here at the center gf the arts . Tickets go on sale Fr⁹
Get to see them Oct. 23 in Northampton, M.A.! I can hardly stand the wait Thank you Linda & Roger! Have you listened to the group's version of "Unchained Melody"? Great stuff!
nope this is driving music with the windows down on a warm day, singing along, totally awesome just mind blowing
Gosh, they just make me feel so good. I'll be smiling for a while.
What I find for most people who claim not to like country music is that, in reality, what they don't like is the caricature of country music in their mind. Well.... well.... well. Home Free! I thought you forgot about them! :D Thank you for posting!
Tim Foust's walking Bassline's are Phenomenal ... I do not understand it but I LOVE it !
How weird that you uploaded this video the same night that Home Free was performing in Orange County.
Adam Rupp was doing the high harmonies, singing higher than Austin. He has an incredible vocal range.
Yes! I thought I could see him doing those highest descending Oo-ooos.
How did you know that? I want every detail I can get on each of these guys
No it wasn't it was Rob sunquist
This was a 50 year anniversary tribute to the 1972 Doobie Brothers classic. I grew up listening and loving the original and this is a super version that is very enjoyable to listen to. Your are correct this is a great upbeat feel good song. Adam Rupp shows why you do not have to buy a drum set to sound great. Thank you for your reaction and you have a blessed day
"If they come here, we should all just go!" Ahh, you're trying to start a movement of Home Heads (or Free Heads?) Oh! Fry Heads!
I've been listening to Home Free for a couple of years now. Until this song, I didn't really understand why I liked them so much. The title is "Listen to the music" . After listening to their version, it dawned on me that even though there's no "music" Home Free makes you not care it's not there

I totally agree, We love our Home Free!
The Doobie Brothers had four guitarists and two percussionists. Home Free had a LOT of instrumental sound to fill in!
They're just special! I haven't seen if you've checked out one of their other new releases.....called "Brother", it's one of their best with an awesome video!
Love you’re reaction!
I would like to see you react to home free Mayday there is some great surprises in it.
Great reaction! I grew up on classic rock & am a big fan of the Doobie Brothers & had their albums. "Listen To The Music" was a big hit for them back in 1972. Kudos to all the guys but WHOA Adam!!!!! Adam is blowing me away HOME FREE did a great job of modernizing this 1972 DOOBIE BROTHERS classic song.
Love your HF reactions. Please do more! Try Sea Shanty Medley, Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, Hillbilly Bone, Mayday. Try Everything (that's one of their songs, but it's also my advice for HF reactions). :)
if you want to hear amazing vocal ranges of home free watch may day
Treat people the way you want to be treated _ stay kind and humble
They knocked this one out of the park.
I've missed your Home Free reactions Chris! Missed your break down and analysis. This is a brilliant cover - so good! Home Free is actually playing in Anaheim tonight! San Diego, Stockton, and Santa Ynez after that. Thanks. 🖤🍟
thank you Larry for giving them another chance....we told you that they didn't just sing "Country".....they are fully into all kinds of genres.
I was right. This reaction was amazeballs as usual.
lol, thanks! No, I missed them in concert. Can't believe it!
Fantastic enthusiastic reaction. Oh My God TIM. We all can hear Adam just nailing percussion as always, but Tim haroomping and booming in the background is stunning. @@chrismorin1318 Absolutely! Each of these guys could easily have solo careers. Put them together and the talent grows exponentially.
@@lschoenrank oh yes. My maria was a show stopper. Their runs where so tightly in sinc and it was live. Good lord.

Love it way too much.
They are GREAT live. You should go for sure. Great reaction
Hi from South Africa... I love your reactions to HF. Your enthusiasm n facial expressions make me smile from ear to ear. Thank you for making my day brighter. 💕 🎵❤️
Another fan from South Africa here! I agree. Great reaction!

This song is notoriously difficult to cover yet these guys did it.
And without musical instruments!
Yes, they were in San Diego this past Wednesday, and Anaheim the night before. The first and second shows of their new tour. They rocked, especially Adam R. The drum solo is unbelievable.....that a person can do that.....just the breath control alone is astonishing.
I don't listen to country music unless it's Home Free.....lots of their fans LOVE Home Free and don't listen to country music.
Larry, Home Free was in Anaheim, Stockton, and

Hi Larry! My son and I are going to see them in October in Williamsport PA. He bought the VIP1 tickets so we'll get to meet them. I can't wait. Great reaction.
They really make you feel the joy of this song. A great rendition!!!
I've already purchased my tickets for their performance on Dec 28th in Stafford, TX. (Christmas Tour along with Texas Hill). You would probably enjoy watching their video of "Brother." In that video their LARPing. Thanks for your reactions.
Jo Ann, I was reading through the comments and saw that you had tickets for Home Free in Texas. How was the show?
I was hoping you would do this!
This one is yet another example of my liking HF's cover even better than the original. Just so good.
9/13 - Anaheim, CA
9/14 - San Diego, CA
9/15 - Stockton, CA
9/16 - Santa Ynez, CA
They sure don't stick to all country, thank goodness. 😉 Love Train is awesome!!! This one is sooooo good, so fun! 😊🥰🥰
Always love your reactions to Home Free just wish you hadn’t stopped for so long. Hope to see you do more Home Free.
Great Reaction! I believe Home Free can do anything!❤️
I looked back through your Home Free reactions and didn't see, "Home Free's Adam Rupp's drum solo." I don't think I overlooked it. Would love to see you react to Adam's drum solo. Love your channel.

Got my tickets today for the Dec 22nd show in Indy. Treated myself to VIP tix for my Christmas present to myself. Can't wait!!
Yes they are on tour. I saw them in March and again a couple of weeks ago. Yes they sound amazing live.
They were in Anaheim last night, Sab Diego at the Balboa Theater tonight and I'm not sure if they have done the Stockton show yet or not
It was 1972. I was a junior in high school. Home Free killed this! Love your reaction!
Love everything Home Free. They also have many non-country songs plus you should really listen to Rob and Austin singing Nessun Dorma
I have seen them 4 times now and every show I find or hear new reasons to love them and their music
I just saw HF couple wks ago, and it was Fantastic. Loved seeing AUSTIN right up front 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I just saw them twice in New England last month, and they are just as amazing live!!! Unreal!!!!
Great song and great reaction! They are in California this week. Anaheim tonight 9/13. I have my tickets for Texas in December 😊
Other great non-country songs: Working for a Livin', Brother, Seven Bridges Road, Crazy, Brothers in Arms, When Will I Be Loved
You have to hear them live! I went to their concert in Indiana, they blew me away!
1972 when "The Doobie Brothers" released the original. Great reaction! Now, return to the original. In no way was this disco... they, as always, paid homage to the original!!! This is why they are the BEST!!! They honor where they come from, they celebrate all genres, and they are the best!!!

Got my UVIP tickets for Dec 8 in Branson Mo....2nd year for my granddaughter and I...so excited
They nailed this Doobie Brothers classic
Apparently, we now need the Second Reaction, where you just groove in appreciation.
Oh… oh… oh…. LISTEN To The MUSIC.

Chris always enjoy your reactions to Home Free. Hope you react to more. You really should do MAYDAY it's amazing!!!
Larry the only way to be happier while listening to this would be to be eating Ice Cream too!
You need to check out their video for American Pie featuring Don McLean....You will really like that one!
They have been on tour for years! You will be blown away hearing them live. When Tim hits those low notes, your seat vibrates.(Heck the whole place vibrates.) Then they usually let Adam Rupp do a solo thing. You'll love it.

Love your reactions! I've been not very patiently waiting for you to do another song and you did not disappoint me. Home Free doesn't do The Disney Medley-is that PTX or VoicePlay?
Its from a long time ago when the band had Matt Atwood, but not Austin or Chance@@MyLorissa I think Rob was with them. Not sure about Tim.
It’s good to see you reacting to Home Free again. I’ll check your channel again for more reactions.
So glad you're reacting to Home Free again Larry, I've missed you. You must listen to their version of 'brother' it's fantastic, and the video is awesome and hilarious , you'll really love it. Glad you're back.🥰😅
1972 by the Doobie Brothers. Vintage '70s man. Epic rendition.
1972!! one of my favorite songs of all time, and Home Free didn't disappoint me with this version. It is a positive, positive song, like Kodachrome, Isn't She Lovely, I'm Walkin' on Sunshine, Dixie Lily and You're Still the One. Thank you so much, Mr. Shair, Mr. Hair :D . If your true name is otherwise, let me just congratulate you on your beautiful crop
lol, thanks! You can call me Chris if you'd like :)
Was wondering when you were getting back to the guys.
So happy to see you reacting to Home Free again. Love your reactions and break down of what they're doing. :)
Same technique you noted on One Man Band! See? I pay attention!
Really rough week for me, thanks for putting a smile on my face. No matter if it's rap, disco or country reaction... just spending these few minutes with you always makes me feel much better. Hope you doing well my friend, have a nice day. (or evening or whenever you read this 🙂)
And the Home Free is just... wow!
Thanks so much. Sorry you had a rough week. Hang in there!
Love it!
I have seen them live 6 times now. And if you get the chance jump at it. My husband went to the first time seeing them just to make me happy. Since then. He comes to me and says hey the guys are going to be here at the center gf the arts . Tickets go on sale Fr⁹
So needless to say he still goes but not just for me. 😂 it's an amazing experience to see them live!
