You’re videos are great, very educational and helpful guidelines where to move and choose safe place to live up north for growing family professionals and wanting to live the busy and expensive life of London 😊
That's interesting to hear! I haven't lived in my hometown since 1987 but what I remember about Manchester road is that it was the battleground for many a football confrontation. Away fans taking the train would have to walk back up Manchester Road to the station, and along the way all the Swindon fans would be waiting in the alleys, lol. I'm not even sure if I remember a red light district in Swindon, but your video did trigger a slight memory that perhaps Manchester Road has always been known for that. It's been 35 years since I lived there so my memory has faded over the years.
I don't mean to make you feel old, RIchard, but I think some things may have changed over 35 years - I love hearing about what it was like back then though, I'm sure it's a much more diverse Road and area now if nothing else. I went down Manchester Road at night since filming that video, and it wasn't plesant, I'll say that. I'm trying to keep things family friendly here, so I didn't film it at night. I watched some of your videos, I love your narration style, and you certainly have a lot more colourful surroudings to film in NY compared to the UK!
@@ukexplored Yeah I've spent one week in Swindon in the last 23 years, and that was to arrange my brother's funeral so I barely had time to see anything. I grew up on the Park South estate which was not quite as bad as the Penhill video you showed, but still pretty bad, lol. My biggest selling point has always been my voice, it sticks out like a sore thumb here in New York 😄 I look forward to other videos from Swindon if you have made any, there really isn't too much on UA-cam from Swindon apart from the football club.
I lived in Manchester Road about 20 years ago, it’s always had a reputation. Never had any problems walking home late at night down there after late shift but I’m not sure that would be the case nowadays. I’m actually astonished how bad it looks in your video, really gone downhill since I left Swindon!
I have lived all around Swindon, grew up around Manchester Road. My dad still lives there and it is very safe. If you want to involve yourself in crime and hang around with alcoholics drug users then you are going to attract trouble. Many of these type of people seem to find a refuge around here that come from different areas. Like the other day thier was a murder by junkie that killed another junkie but they came from the Parks areas the council estates. The people in the area are fed up with outsiders coming in and causing crime, nothing to do with immagrants that are working and running shops, quite a few polish shops on Manchester Road, but the council needs to do more investment and development. Stop investing in rich areas and building a bad image of deprived areas.
Thanks man, appreciate that. I’m going to look around Eastcott and Walcot soon as they have the highest crime rates. I’ll take a look into those areas as well.
@@ukexplored I forgot about the beautiful Walcott, whilst you’re there you may as well have the luxury of frequenting the Parks, salubrious areas but still slightly better than Pinehurst 😀👍🏻
Actually Swindon only has a population of 183,638. The larger figure you mentioned at the start of the video is for the enlarged borough council which includes many surrounding towns and villages, which aren't part of Swindon (proper).
Omg Swindon in a drug town Manchester rd is the worst noo the crime rate hasn't gone down its worse women do go out alone. Unsavoury people hang around all the time.swindon is bad, the railway village great little cottages but the worse just like Manchester rd unsavoury people in the alley ways dealing. Just to warn you don't walk around alone especially don't walk down alley ways. The stabbing rate is worse now. Swindon is the worse place it's not safe anymore it's dangerous
Looks like terraces in most larger towns but terraces from that era are very well built so could be a bargain. Also when you live or work somewhere you get to know the area so where to go and where not to go although never really paid too much attention to that myself as I am pig headed although at one place I worked the boss used to say hopefully see you tomorrow as drug gangs were often shooting at each other on the same streets I used to walk home but those areas have all changed now after serious renovation so I hardly recognise them now and no stray dogs loose after dark ready to chase you through the streets.
Fun story, Walking back from a friends house in Penhill at about 3am after a huge smoking sesh, I found myself on station road (very close) and was asked from over the road by a lady of the night "You want business?" My high ass thought she asked "You got rizlas?" I did not want Business and she did not want rizlas.
Rodbourne in Swindon. I used to live there, now live in Stratton St. Margaret. Rodbourne used to be great, still not too bad tbh but I’d love to hear your take.
I lived down there for a year in the late 90's. Was getting pretty rough by then. Got shoved up against the wall by a prozzie looking for trade and also had to barge my way through a load of them who had been smoking crack and were fighting outside the off licence I wanted to go into! Fun times!!
this area isn't the best place to be at night but a couple years back I had to walk directly through this area on the way home every night after work which was about midnight and it always just seemed extremely quiet and empty, never experienced anything at all to be honest just 1 or 2 people walking by on the odd occasions, doing the exact same as me I probably felt alot safer here believe it or not compared to other locations in the town as its not as isolated and secluded as some of the more dodgy areas. Nice video though!
I was born in Swindon in '61. Manchester road and its surrounding streets, have always been the saddest area of the town, shame really, should be redeveloped. If you travel out of Swindon from the buss station or the railway station, it's the remaining last impression of the town... not good.
Those areas don't have bad crime rates on paper. Might not feel like that if you've had a bad experience there though. But compared to Swindon, Bristol, Slough, and some other areas I've covered they look like a safe haven.😂
I lived on Manchester Road in a flat, prostitutes were always there this was early 80s some great boozers and plenty of greasy spoon cheap cafes, you could gaurentee a party was on 7 days aweek had some good times then, no idea what it's like now moved decades ago.
Lived on that road for 2 years, honestly it's not the worst even if it's incredibly depressing looking. I never once had any trouble or felt unsafe, no matter the time or lighting. Generally the population seems mostly middle aged largely immigrant/ethnic and very much keep themselves to themselves. Although, I've heard girls get unsolicited comments walking on the road. The red light thing is legit, but it's pretty low key, I think I only saw a prossie once or twice in my whole time there. I hear most of them moved over to County Road. Honestly the worst part is the appearance, walking through the place depressed the shit out of me. A lot of the area round the centre is pretty grim, including the centre. Best off heading to Old Town which is actually quite nice, however the old town nightlife is teaming with a really unexpected number of thuggish idiots wanting to fight, so watch out for that.
Yeah, I’d walk down the road myself and it doesn’t feel that bad. But the stats show that serious crimes involving stabbings, class a drugs, etc are a feature there. Maybe it’s mostly kept behind closed doors and among a select few, which is often the case.

Looks like any other British town, worn down houses, litter everywhere, grey depressing roads.
What colour do you want roads to be lmao

It is getting worse, and that’s sad. 🙁
Agreed the railway village used to be a beautiful place, now it’s full of scum bags

Interesting! Probably best to not explore in the evenings then.
That’s depends on what you’re looking for…😂
@@ukexplored hahahahha 🤣
@@ukexploredused to score crack and heroin there all the time at night lol never had a problem 😐
@@ukexploredactually someone was stabbed to death there literally a few days ago lol

This area does not feel like Swindon anymore.
Nowhere feels like Britain anymore

That looks proper grimy
It's Swindon's Barton Street, isn't it. 😀
@@ukexplored looks worse that that! I've not been to Swindon much in the last 30 or so years, used to go to the Oasis centre a fair bit
@@lloydclevely9956 Been abandoned now for a few years sadly
The pebbledash and UPVC windows makes it look so run down, these would be smart uniformed terraces if they weren’t brutalised in the 60s to the 80s

I live in Swindon and I avoid Manchester road, just don’t feel safe there
I really like your videos dude
Thanks. I really like you 😀
Very Valid
Not to sure who gave you that information but that is not the worst street in Swindon
My friend at work was walking down here in the morning and some dudes tried to lure her into their car 😕
It was known as being swindon's red like district. When I used to live in the town hated going past it.

I know it’s irrelevant to Manchester road but I use to have some banging nights at Swindon’s Brunel rooms on a Friday night.
That’s cool, it was a legendary venue where some huge names played, too.
You should go to Medway, Chatham, Gillingham (be careful in Gillingham)
Those areas don't have bad crime rates on paper. Might not feel like that if you've had a bad experience there though. But compared to Swindon, Bristol, Slough, and some other areas I've covered they look like a safe haven.😂
I live hear with my 52 year old dad for about 5 years and I have never had a problem it dose have a very high crime rate which is unfortunate
It does. But if you know how to conduct yourself and where not to go and when etc I’m sure you’re fine.
something i noticed you didn't mention is that its mainly Muslims that live along the road and the roads leading off it.
I put the diversity stats in the videos with larger areas. But I think you know why I can’t throw out a statement like that.
Scored heroin from the mosque a couple of times lol
The Muslims weren’t the ones to ruin the roads around here though, that’ll be the 1970s pebbledash enthusiasts
Wow! I wonder where those working girls go to copulate with their clients?
Old town centre

A man got murdered here not long ago since u made this video he was stabbed and died and another stabbed in gorsehill

Its the land of the immigrant in swindon
It looks like a mini Luton or a Mini Ilford Lane as it also has prostitutes, drugs, asylum seekers, and immigrant-based crimes such as Honour Killing
