Unfortunately near the end, the video didn't render properly and begins to stutter. The audio is fine so you can still hear everything being discussed but the accompanying video bounces around a bit. I didn't realize this until it had been online for several hours. These longer videos are sometimes hard to render compared to 30-50 minutes episodes as the graphics card heats up toward the end of the process (my guess). Otherwise: The great thing about this game's dev team is that just hours after posting this video some of the issues I mention have already been patched and updated, like aiding the confusion of import/export pallets at the Trading Depot. This game is going to grow quickly, so it is enjoyable being here at the start of this ride.
All I did was explain it like I'd like to have it explained to me. 😄 For more, I've got a series of the game going on my channel. Thanks for stopping by!
@@NobleRambler Yes, and that was where you did a wonderful job. You explained the game with competency. You didn't spend twelve minutes confused as to how to click something or randomly die to basic threats half a dozen times like some others do.
@@michaeldodd6181 Also be sure to check out Solid Content's Mountaincore Ep. 1 on UA-cam. He did a great job and is a lot more entertaining to watch (I enjoy his videos!)
Thanks for stopping by. I did notice a few mistakes as I was editing, like forgetting to click the carrots and potatoes seeds in their fields, but those were minor. Love this game.
@@NobleRambler I didn't even clock that, I usually end up treble checking I have all my fields assigned right when first starting out, its so easy to forget or accidently assign the same thing to a few fields 🤣
I followed along with you on this and learned a lot about what to check when they aren't doing what I want. One thing I learned is the import and export crates at the workstations are not just for convenience. You HAVE to place the crates for the work to get done. 🙂 I couldn't get the carpenters to build the chest for the traders because I didn't have the export crates so the traders just put the money all over the ground lol
I can see how they might be mistaken as just a means to hurry things up, rather than be the _only_ way to get things working. It is actually quite an intuitive system and once you get the hang of it you can really fine tune your productions. Later it might be that steel hammers with ebony handles sell for the most (just making that up) and so you can dial that in at the smithy. And at least the traders dropped their money. Many versions ago if no chest then they just took everything for free! 😲
@@NobleRambler I just realized what your saying. You mean your own renovations and not in the game. lol Yes, I see that since I have played this the last 2 days. lol
@@kks_grandma182 Oh also, be sure to leave them a review. It turns out that only recent buyer's reviews count toward Steam's Review Count, not those that converted from King Under The Mountain. Getting to 50 reviews is the next milestone they need to cross to keep the game moving through the system.
Thanks for making this video it helps allot. Question, what do the circles around stationary objects mean? For example, every time you place or click on a crafted item it’s shows circles around that object until you click away.
You're welcome. Those circles represent where the dwarves can stand to operate the (bench, table, basin, etc.) You need to leave at least one of those positions unobstructed or access will be blocked. There have been occasions that an item will bug out if all 4 aren't available - I've heard that coffins have been known to do that and they won't bury a dwarf unless the coffin is standing away by itself - not certain about that because I don't think I've ever lost a dwarf. Either way, maps have a lot of space so keep yourself from crowding things too close together and everything should go fine. Thanks for watching!
I love the Tutorial. However, is there going to be a quiz later? I think I need to be tested so I don't mess things up (again)! I wish you could make a whole semester of classes on this LOL.
Well actually, for the small price of 19.95, I have this other playlist called Mountaincore.... Oh, wait, it's actually free if you follow the link. 😆 ua-cam.com/play/PL0cm9W3xY9jFPvE21Wh4kkKdRE8EFRnvO.html Of course, I probably made some of the same mistakes as you at first, though we are still alive 6 episodes in so I must have done some things right, too. And the game is changing daily, with sometimes 2 updates a day hitting while recording this series, so some of our problems don't exist now. Anyway, glad you liked it. Maybe grab the seed in the description of the playlist and follow along.
@@NobleRambler Thanks for the link but I have watched all of them already. I wish there were even more of them even though sometimes I feel like my brain is full LOL.
@@Leo82655 I will be release Ep. 7 in the morning. Unfortunately this game's release came at a bad time for me. In Jan/Feb I was releasing a video a day but pulled back to work on a major renovation project at home with a deadline of May 31. Right when I was the busiest this game announced it was coming back to life and releasing soon, so I made the mistake of converting my KUTM key into Mountaincore and tried it....well, I'm not going to make my deadline now. 🤣 Once everything at home gets sorted out and I can record daily again more content will come out. (PS. I also had to pass on the opportunity to test-play Forever Skies for the developer due to this home project. I was bummed!)
Thanks for your awesome video guide @NobleRambler :) Just a question for all those who may have played the game, what is a good seed that you've played with easy to access minerals etc? Also, how can I water my farms if the river is too far away (is there a watering can or bucket?)? Thanks for the great starter guide and I look forward to getting my colony set up within the mountains.
I tend to bounce back and forth at the start of a game, restarting over and over until I find a map that looks promising. I never found a seed pattern that I could use to force a seed to do what I wanted. I went through a dozen tries before I found the one I used for this video. If you aren't near a river, the dwarves can't manually water the farms so they will grow slow and certain crops won't make it. I haven't played for a couple of months now, but it seems like I mentioned a few seeds to plant first in this video (it seems like carrots and potatoes were fast growing). Otherwise, as you get the game progressing, you'll be able to build a water pump at the river and a water wheel or windmill to power the water pump. Then you can pipe water down to your farms and fill a ditch with water next the the farms to make the 3 tiles on all sides of the water-filled ditch moist and watered just like a river tile. If you watch through my Mountaincore series I covered every aspect of gameplay before putting it on pause. I'm waiting for more updates before playing on further. Thanks for watching!
This seems like something I would love to play but like I said my eyesight tells me there would be no way... So.. I'll watch you play and pause when my eyes needs a break Good explinations
Thanks! I've watched others stream this game and have noticed their confusion at predictable points, so thought making a video like this would make that start more enjoyable.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have never played Rim World or Dwarf Fortress and I have had heck of a time keeping my crew alive. Their tutorial is not very helpful.
You are welcome! Yes, the game's tutorial is a bit limited, but I think the intention was to get the player to actively figure things out, which for some feels like a challenge and an accomplishment, while others just get frustrated. A tip for a new player to this kind of a game is to play the game on the slowest speed, not get impatient, and spend the extra time looking at all the details, follow dwarves around and watch what they do, what they pick up, where they go next, how everything interacts. Once you understand how something works it is easier to figure out the rest of the game later, as it all follows the same logic. Enjoy!
