I got to do some forging today and tried to apply some holding techniques that you talked about. Very helpful, I didn't feel as fatigued as I usually do. I hope you continue with the smithing videos.
Thank you for the feedback mulekick. I personally had over 10 years forging experience by 1997 without the benefit of any ergonomic system and subsequently developed wrist problems, so I was open to another way. I found that by rotating the grip as I described in the video (taught by Uri Hofi as a result of his research of other master smith's approaches) was at first unnerving but within a few days it felt natural and it really decreased the strain on my wrist. I have never looked back.
@@mulekickforge4242 Stick with it. I wasn't convinced it was right for me for three grueling days and then I got it. So hang in there. It will become more natural.
I still have that Kinyon air hammer, I'll demonstrate it in upcoming videos. I built it to inspire students to build their own, it was the 3rd I built from scratch, additionally, I converted 3 mechanicals to air, it's a good system. Best to you Luke. Stay tuned!
@@blackmetalstudio6425 Yeah, I was one of those students. You've had a shit ton of students, my name is Luke. Matt Bush and I were in that class. I didn't finish it. I moved that beast to California and ended up selling it on Craigslist. Sad to hear you retired from ACC but stoked to see you on UA-cam. Your classes benefited me greatly, even though the metal work I do has a very small % of forging. Thanks for for putting out this info.

@@blackmetalstudio6425 I had to keep reminding myself to try to relax and hold it proper. Lol

This happens to be precisely how you properly hold a drumstick for both speed and power.
I remember that Kinyon style air hammer you built circa 2004.
