@@TylersReelFishing that's the hardest lesson I had to learn... I've been cleaning local lakes, taking others fishing for free, etc... and get 1k views a video... BUT the other day someone told me I inspired someone with 200k to clean the same lake I normally visit... And TLDR, God may not use me, he may not even use you sometimes, but the message you're spreading is inspiring the world to save the thing you love, and brother that inspires me!
This is perhaps the most important series of videos you've ever produced. As a fisherman, I find it fascinating and eye opening. I enjoy learning how to catch more fish, but learning how to have more fish to catch... priceless! Normally I wouldn't watch and listen to a couple of people sit around and talk for an hour and 42 minutes, but I do care about the environment and how to do MY part to make whatever fishery I fish in the best and healthiest it can be. As I see other anglers, I can pass knowledge on that way, in a kind and courteous manner. I have also recommended fellow fishermen watch this series of videos. I don't know if they ever did, but I did MY part in spreading the word. I am saving each one and will do a refresher watch on these once every month or so until I can absorb as much of this knowledge as possible. Thanks to you and Steven for taking the time and effort to produce this series. Blessings!
Thank you, Tyler, for having Steven on your channel. I've learned so much from watching this. I 10000% handle my bass differently and don't get upset when I see people keeping bass to eat.
I search out any scientific info I can find from a fisheries standpoint. Wish more channels were putting out content like this. Really appreciate it, thank you.
This has got to be my favorite series you’ve ever done (something finally knocks “100 Ponds” from the #1 spot). I’m learning so much! This is so awesome!
Personally, this is the best content on UA-cam right now. I could watch you two talk all day long and just soak up the information. Steven is a fantastic lecturer and his knowledge base is extensive. This series is certainly changing my view on fish but bass in particular.
I really hope we are living in a time where people start to harvest more and this knowledge reaches every angler and changes minds. My hometown’s lakes has 6 of the top 25 biggest bass, now a 4 lber is rare because of lack of harvest and invasive striped bass. Thank you Tyler, I really hope people keep taking this content seriously and that it changes minds so our fisheries can rebound and big bass will return!
20 or so years ago I was a college student at Auburn University. I worked for the fisheries department and took a pilot course called Bass Angling taught by the facilities manager of the basketball arena. I was taught “catch and eat” by both. I’m glad to see good scientific information being spread on UA-cam.
Awesome series with Steven. Some of my favorite videos you have made. Knowledge every angler can use to be more well rounded, and improve fisheries for future generations. Well done!
You deserve soooo many more likes, subs, and viewers for how much time and effort you put in. Appreciate all the fishing knowledge you share. Keep up the work!
36 minutes in and I had to take a break. You ask great questions, Tyler! Can’t wait to see the part about plants. Maybe you can start labeling them correctly. 😂
Dude I stocked my dad's pond with a lot of huge bass that I caught in a local river and they thrived. It's a killer place to fish even today and before I started stocking it as a kid, there weren't any bass in there. I had no knowledge of parasites but in my case it turned out great
No matter what the best pound for pound fighting fish is in anyone's opinion i think we all can agree, these videos are awesome and we all could learn from them. I hope to see more of them. I Would personally love to hear more from a biologists on the fisheries and soak up as much as I can on what he has learned over his years.
Great show!! Learn so much from this video 🐟💦💦💦 living here in Georgia. I just learned my middle state to lower state bass act like Florida bass… Got a couple almost 10 pounders mid Georgia.😎
Very interesting conversation. When you are discussing the effects of fish handling you quickly drift to a ecological perspective but as angles we should also keep in mind the individual fish and it's ability to feel pain and we should prevent unnecessary suffering for the fishes sake.
I live in south Louisiana right where hurricane ida hit, I was an offshore fisherman prior and got back to bass fishing right after the storm. From what I hear talking to locals on the bayous we had a major fish kill due to saltwater and oxygen loss. From bass clubs and other fisherman I’m hearing our fishery is in bad shape compared to prior of the storm. Kinda wish LDWLF would change limits to allow fish to recover and reproduce. I am seeing a lot of fingerlings from this past spawn and last year. Hopefully it bounces back.
Lol if you think bass are the best fish species that tells me you don't have much experience. I love bass because of how acessible they are across the country and they are a really fun fish to catch, but there are a million species out there that are far more rewarding and are way cooler to catch.
I agree. I love bass fishing. 90+ % of my time is spent bass fishing. BUT…Once a year I head to the Salmon River and the first time you hook one of those studs you’ll realize bass and pound for pound don’t go together. I would say no fight like it but I’ve never hooked giant sea creatures. I’m sure people could always come up with a bigger, better fish to catch. So far I’ve not found a fish I don’t enjoy catching all the way down to bluegill on light tackle.
@@timstewart6544biggest fish I have caught so far for reef is a 55# amberjack, and pelagic is a 38# king mackerel. Definitely a lot more of fight than any bass I have caught. I really want to get a billfish or big tuna next.
At my local lake for the past 5 years or so they’ve been adding Tiger Musky. My grandpa having fished this lake for many years before the Tiger Musky started being stocked has noticed that the bass haven’t been thriving like they used too. The smaller and bigger fish have faded out and we’re left with a bag of 3 pounders winning a tournament. We’ve thrown lures mimicking small bait fish at bass spots he once’s fish and the Tiger Musky have seemed to taken it over. I’m not saying there the only reason because a lot of Alewife have died because of bad cold fronts we’ve experienced in the spring but the Tiger Musky seem to of have taken a big part in it from what we’ve experienced.
I'm really enjoying these videos and learning a ton from Steven. keep them coming! Im curious about the plants being tansported through breakoffs. usually the drain and dry guidance tells you to let it dry for 7 days. but if i'm understanding, some breakoffs can lie dormant for years? if so, wouldnt waiting 7 days be effectively pointless if you happened to miss even just one little broken off leaf? or worse, something microscopic that you cant even see?
Tyler I wish you would reach out to Steven to get his thoughts on the recommendation one of the Alabama Biologist that wants to put a 14-20 inch length slot on tournament fishermen only.. this new recommendation is bananas and he is trying to put that slot on the entire Coosa chain based off one study done at Neely Henry.
In the savannah river chain lakes, angler's have introduced the spotted bass years ago also. From what you're saying thier Alabama bass. Lake Russell is absolutely over ran with spots & their mostly all small. Clark's Hill is starting to get bad also. I hate it. I would much rather catch largemouth of a decent size to big one. Than catch a bunch of small spots! I wish those lakes had zero spots! Which is why I mostly fish lake Murray & other smaller lakes so I don't have to deal with it.
@@TylersReelFishing Dont think so. Apparently this variety is only in the coosa river. I can for sure see the difference in them and all other "spots" I have caught in alabama. The coosa variety are just meaner/more aggressive, seem stronger... but they do get lots of current in the coosa, and they are shaped differently too. Anyway, I enjoy this type content very much! Keep it up, you are doing something different and not trying to sell baits and gear by saying crap like the "pros" do on tv. Keep up the good and original work. These are great videos and really like hearing the science behind the fish mgmt process. If you get a chance I would like to know how common fizzing bass is in TX. I caught a bass in the 22ft depth range from a private TX lake during the winter, and it came out of the water dead. Never had that happen before and not sure if it was a combo of depth and water temp.
I'm looking for my first rod based on your "1 rod do it all" video and these are what I found that are all currently in stock and same price range: Abu Garcia Jordan Lee casting rod, Daiwa Tatula XT Casting Rod, Lew's TP1X Speed Stick HM40 (all MH/F). Are all of these good options? Are combos also a fine option? There's another Lews rod (KVD IM8) that's currently only available in extra fast action. Been watching your channel religiously lately and it makes me eager to start learning. Would really appreciate the help!
@@plzifan3773 I definitely want to get a spinning rod as well, but I would like to have both and I just feel the sooner I learn to baitcast the better I'll be as an angler overall. I'm definitely aware the learning curve is a bit more challenging!
@TylersReelFishing I'm starting to think now since I've never fished before, maybe I should look more into good budget options. Instead of spending $150-$200 on one rod/reel I can get a baitcaster and a spinning setup, each around the $100-$125 range, and have 2 rods starting out instead of one. At least that sounds better in theory to me lol
I just had to explain to my gf why I go bass fishing and don’t go catch big cat fish or something else much bigger I told her all that is fun but bass fishing is just different and I couldn’t put it in words
I always use a net fishing in the kayak, regardless of size. That way I do it without thinking & when I do hook into a big girl I don't losses her right at the side of the kayak. Sounds like we all need to start keeping our limits of bass & put them on the frying pan, release the big girls, eat the rest...
Florida in my experience is unique in that there are so many competing species, specifically peacocks, snakehead, bowfin in South Florida. Can black bass really grow big in conditions where the carrying capacity of the water body is occupied by other species?
I have been seeing a UA-cam channel that thinks it’s funny to throw bass in the air before it hits the water and it makes me so freakin’ mad, and I hope nobody does that where I can see it because I could react before I think!
...I felt guilty until I watched this. In July I caught 5 pike in my small 30 acre lake. I had 1 in the boat (kayak) 25in+ and while fumbling for a clamp, he got off the hook and jumped back in. 2 others I killed accidentally. Both were 25in+ and both were put on shore for the animals and birds. I can say I was just managing my lake, pike are fun to fight but I rather fight large mouth.
Tyler, you look nervous when you do these type shows. Lots of adjusting and looking and fidgeting. Have you ever tried yoga and meditation to calm your nerves. And no I'm not saying but into all the gibberish and astrology blah blah. Because I am also a man of God and don't believe in that junk but as someone who has attention problems and focus myself I have practiced yoga and meditation and it greatly helped me with being able to sit still and be an effective communicator without my mind racing a 1000000 miles an hour. I was the world's worst for finishing your sentences while talking just so I could say what I had already thought of next. But with practice and relaxation exercises I'm a completely different person as far as being able to sit still and talk/communicate with others. Love ya brother God bless and thank you for another interesting video.
@@TylersReelFishing that's great man. Wasn't calling you out or trying to make you feel awkward. I struggle myself. I was just suggesting what has helped me. I'll keep you in my prayers and thoughts.
And apparently some people don't understand yoga and meditation. So let me break it down before you make a comment that you have to erase because you realize how ignorant you just looked just like the last fellow did. #1 my God is Jesus of Nazareth. The one true living God. #2 yoga is simply stretching while focusing on your breathing and trying to maximize the range of motion whenever you stretch. #3 meditation is time where you sit quietly focus on your breathing and try to feel your body relaxing. Focusing on every muscle in your body relax. A lot of time when I meditate it starts with a conversation with Jesus and I usually end it the same way. #4 nothing about yoga or meditation is evil. It's simply being in tune with your body. I hope this helps you to understand and know what the two are. Maybe if you feel so uptight that you have to make a rude comment you should give the two a try for yourself. It's only exercises and breathing folks. Don't have a heart attack. 😁. God bless and have a great day my friends.
@TylersReelFishing because those don't damage the fish. If roughly 30% of fish die after being caught in tournaments(roughly averaged from both cold and warm water tournaments), then tournaments effectively help cull out higher quality specimens by killing off the bigger and best fish each team catches... according to in fisherman, Hooks in mouths etc are one of the most obvious signs of being beaten up during these events. There can be no argument that barbed hooks cause more damage... some of our most amazing fisheries have already banned the use of barbs on tackle... the Boundary Waters Canoe Area being the most noteable. I personally fish mostly barbless all the time to prevent extra damage from poor or deep hooksets and allow for better chances at quick recuperation. Do you really think it a bad choice to have fisherman competing to catch the most and largest fish use less damaging means to catch said fish? One would think that the people who care so much about our sport and fisheries would worry a bit more about the health of the critters they are catching.
Lots of directions I could go with this response, but I’ll keep it short. Steven is a friend, and in a professional setting, I’m not going to interrupt him to give my take on if he’s right or not on this topic, that would be rude. I happen to believe God made creation in a certain way, but Steven as a non-Christian attributes that to evolution, and that’s ok. We can have differences and still be friends
@@TylersReelFishing ok I just wanted to know what you thought because being a Christian myself just to understand how to approach it well I love listening to the interviews and thank you for sharing the love of christ
First I disagree taking toxic fish to a pet food place, that should be illegal. So, if every fisherman would stop fishing tomorrow, nature would not take care of itself. I eat fish but have not kept any lately.
Nature would not create amazing fisheries though with the proportions of catchable fish that humans want. Proper management can both give human a better experience and keep fisheries in pretty good check. Also, if the fish are toxic, of course don’t give em to people to use for pet food.
Your torturing, kidnapping, and mutilating it… but let’s be so and so about WVERYTHING ELSE… I’m perfectly fine with “being humane” but at the same time.. let’s be honest. Catching fish isn’t humane period
@@TylersReelFishing I know I was at that part. I’m in this Facebook group dude and ppl just drive me crazy. They hound on ppl for anything and everything. I’ve literally referred to your last video for them. Now I can do this one too. Like I said I’m fine with doing thing humane. Some ppl just need a hook in their mouth lol
I love that thump from a bass and not knowing how big until you crank down on it. I love that every cast may be the giant you’re hunting. I love the challenge when they’re not biting and those days when they’ll hit anything you throw at ‘em. I love begging them to stay on or don’t jump. What’s not to love about bass fishing?
If you’ve never fished in lakes with pikes… you don’t know the pain… 16” pike biting off my bass lures. Good bye vision 110 on first cast right out of the box to a pike 🥲

Were you talking about mille lacs cause i see lots of musky?
No
Nice
A lot of lakes in AZ have an eating limit due to mercury levels. Tyler, wear sunblock on your legs.
Hey now, they aren’t really that burnt 😂 I couldn’t fix the white balance in the room, my legs looked the worst
I have been seeing a UA-cam channel that thinks it’s funny to throw bass in the air before it hits the water and it makes me so freakin’ mad, and I hope nobody does that where I can see it because I could react before I think!
Dang, that’s no good!
I live in MN and I love the DNR folks. They are trying to save us from ourselves.
For sure
good information but to be honest waaay to meny commercials there was 32 adds in this video
At my lake house, a few anglers kill all the pickerel they catch. Not sure good or bad. But hate catching them
I’d say that’s probably good
They’re big. Like 24”😂
Now that I hold out my hands, I realize they were much larger than 24”😂
...I felt guilty until I watched this.
Yep, managing your lake! Somebody’s gotta do it!
I live in California, why does my lake list black bass if there are none out here ?
When did David Blaine become a biologist?
Oof, those lobster legs.... dang, looks like it hurts my guy... gotta get some sunscreen! 😂🎉😂
I was burned, but the color grade was not the best on my skin 😂 I tried, but the lighting in there was bad on my legs
I do look at the solunar times however current generation is a much bigger factor on the smaller lakes i fish.
I could see that
Tyler, you look nervous when you do these type shows.
Working on it! My mind and body have been going a million miles per hour for years. Working on finding balance
In oklahoma most people not releasing nothing 😅😂
Probably more catch and release than you think
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Someone send this to Randy Blaukat! His emotional arguments kind of get shot down with factual information here.
We deal in facts around here
No competitive fishing should allow barbed hooks.
Why draw the line there? Why not at “graphite rods”? Or at “braided line”? Or at “ball bearings in reels”?
I found the solution for bigger bass…. Save the Dinks for the cat fishermen to use for bait!
So Tyler, what would you say to him talking about evolution? How some thing evolved
Coming from a Christian
Lots of directions I could go with this response, but I’ll keep it short.
Steven is a friend, and in a professional setting, I’m not going to interrupt him to give my take on if he’s right or not on this topic, that would be rude.
I happen to believe God made creation in a certain way, but Steven as a non-Christian attributes that to evolution, and that’s ok. We can have differences and still be friends
@@TylersReelFishing ok I just wanted to know what you thought because being a Christian myself just to understand how to approach it well
I love listening to the interviews and thank you for sharing the love of christ
Grass carp is 🗑
I agree
First I disagree taking toxic fish to a pet food place, that should be illegal.
So, if every fisherman would stop fishing tomorrow, nature would not take care of itself.
I eat fish but have not kept any lately.
Nature would not create amazing fisheries though with the proportions of catchable fish that humans want. Proper management can both give human a better experience and keep fisheries in pretty good check.
Also, if the fish are toxic, of course don’t give em to people to use for pet food.
@TylersReelFishing yeah, I agree with you. I'm old and grouchy, and everything keeps changing. I remember growing up fishing .
Did a bass write this?
Definitely noooooo, tuna is and no other fish beats tuna
I hope to catch one!
Your torturing, kidnapping, and mutilating it… but let’s be so and so about WVERYTHING ELSE… I’m perfectly fine with “being humane” but at the same time.. let’s be honest. Catching fish isn’t humane period
We literally discussed that in the video my guy
@@TylersReelFishing I know I was at that part. I’m in this Facebook group dude and ppl just drive me crazy. They hound on ppl for anything and everything. I’ve literally referred to your last video for them. Now I can do this one too. Like I said I’m fine with doing thing humane. Some ppl just need a hook in their mouth lol
I hate bass as a fish and bass fishing culture
Why are you watching a bass fishing channel 😂😂
Tell me how you really feel
@@TylersReelFishing Don’t sugar coat it for us. 😂😂
I love the rush of bass fishing!
If you’ve never fished in lakes with pikes… you don’t know the pain… 16” pike biting off my bass lures. Good bye vision 110 on first cast right out of the box to a pike 🥲
Haha yep!
Transporting live fish is illegal in Massachusetts🥲 I wish I could keep pet bass
