    I bought this two years ago. I love it. Last week I upgraded to a turntable with a better cartridge and in all honesty, I couldn't tell the difference. So now I'm back to old reliable. I guess my ears or my speakers cant pick up on things like that.

      Put an elliptical stylus on the Sony, that's if you haven't done it already. This way you are upgrading the turntable's sound profile anyway. Swapping out mats for higher end materials like acrylic can also work wonders, and it also happens to be Record-ology's favourite surface.

    I like these particular types of turntables because they are fairly easy to modify for 3 speeds and there is a 78 needle that works for the Audio Technica cartridge. Currently, I have a modified AT-LP60 that I use for 78's.

      Can you say what you do to get 78 rpm? Sounds interesting.

    That wire under the plater is for the auto return if you dislodge it the auto start and stop will not work. I had one of those and binned it, it skipped on the majority of my records and was a complete pain. I think that it could have just been a Faulty one as I have seen the same complaints with the lp60 as well. If they are not setup properly from the factory there is nothing you can do about as the counter weight is none adjustable.

    That's the same turntable I have! I bought it new a couple of years ago. I have it connected to a mini hifi system (also Sony) and it really suits me. I was interested to see the tracking force am glad to see it won't damage my records. I like the fact that it is automatic as well.

    This recordplayer reminded me of my early teenage years. I had a Sony PS-LX 100, the cheapest of the cheapest with horrible inner groove distortion, but I was very proud of it back then and had a great time, listening to records :D

    I had this as my first turntable when I got back into records. It's fine. I wouldn't use it for any expensive records as it isn't the last word in refinement, but it's a decent record player. I got the Schiit Mani, and it was a big improvement over the built in phono. You make me want to haul it out of the closet and dust it with a glob of goo! That car situation sounded like a real headache, but the hike looked great.

    I picked up one of these from a pawn shop labeled as “not working” for the same price. One belt and stylus later, and it’s not had a problem since. The only thing I dislike about it is that it tends to drop the tone arm like a hammer.

    I remember seeing these in stores before they discontinued it, along with the Pioneer PL-990 and Denons, Akais, Duals, etc all made by Hanpin. They're the first new turntables that I've gotten my hands onto.

    • @vwestlife

      Yes, this model uses the same chassis as the Pioneer PL-990. It even has the slot where the Pioneer has its strobe light and mirror, except the Sony lacks the strobe so it's just an empty hole. I did a video comparing the Pioneer PL-990 with the Sony PS-LX250H (the predecessor to the PS-LX300USB) many years ago on my channel.

    Hello from Yorkshire,I have an Aiwa 850 turntable that was part of an Aiwa midi system from the mid 90s.it was a separate but part of the overall system. Fully automatic, and with an Audio Technica 3600 stylus,I had no problems with it. Midi system wore out but not the turntable.

    I had this turntable before I got my Denon DP-300F. It served its purpose but what I didn't like about it was it didn't have a counter balance weight and some records would just skip in odd places. It's a good starter one though.

    Just hit 65 and bought a Sony PS-LX310BT to play my old vinyl and had new woofers put in my old huge speakers. Problem: A very small room and I love it LOUD. 11 o'clock on my receiver and I get a huge roaring feedback. Suggestions? Most of the platforms cost more than the turntable so I can't go there.

  • @danallan4860
    @danallan4860 2 роки тому +1

    Buy a new belt, upgrade the stylus to an LP Gear 6516 SE, a perfect fit, and use a Pro-Ject phono box preamplifier, all sold on Amazon. For roughly less than $200 in upgrades you now have a turntable that can easily rival many $500-$700 turntables in sound.

  • @TorontoJon
    @TorontoJon 3 роки тому +1

    One of my first turntable purchases was a Sony PS-LX250H unit for about $80 new-in-box from an eBay seller. It worked pretty well for quite a while and was easy to hook up using either the line-out or phono setting, but at some point, it dropped the stylus a bit harshly on records and sometimes, the tone arm would lift up by itself at any point within an LP record to auto-return and shut off the turntable which was irritating.
    So, I upgraded by buying vintage 1980's Sony direct-drive turntables that were very reliable and then I fell down the rabbit hole (a fun rabbit hole, but a rabbit hole nonetheless since collecting is a disease) by collecting turntables by Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Dual, Elac Miracord, Acoustic Research, Sansui, etc. :)

      Back in the day, there were plenty of 7" 33 1/3 records, and even 12" 45 rpm ones. They all had small holes. It is easy to mistake them. I believe both formats were extended play, around 10 minutes per side.

    Not sure how this can be compared with an LP3, at least in terms of the tonearm. This arm is basically a pencil attached to an el cheapo headshell. Not comparable to the arms of an LP3 or Crosley C8 ((is that one discontinued?).

    I bought one of these turntables back in 2019.
    It was brand new in the box and cost me £25 plus some diesel money.
    The one thing that I think you are missing with your purchase is the CD-ROM which came with it new, unfortunately I don't know what it is used for because I never took mine out of the box (as I have too many other devices to concentrate on) but obviously it is to do with the files coming from the USB cable !

    I had one of these, I actually still have it in it's box in my storage unit. It was a great cheap turntable. Yeah, it's just the same thing as an at lp60... But if ya know what that is , ya know it's great for the price. I replaced it with a Rega P2 that I got for a steal, so yeah this can't touch that at all, but I really liked this turntable when it was my regular use one.

    We have a PS-LSX250H that we bought in the early 2000s as options were slim (the only turntable at the retailer when we bought it). It's been very reliable and plays older vinyl (80s and earlier) great, but seems to have speed issues with newer pressings as if it's accelerating as the record plays to the center tracks. Ours is still cleaner than the one you picked-up.

    Looks like the plastic is attracting a lot of dust.. Anti-static record cleaning fluid can be used on the plastic of the turntable to make it attract less dust.
    As a European, I can confirm that it's ridiculous to use metric units for record sizes.
    Only with cheap or antique turntables, an AC synchronous motor is a good thing.
    A proper modern design using something like a DC servo is more accurate, especially if you have noisy devices connected in the same power group of your house.
    That Sony turntable is only a bit cheaper than the AT-LP3, while the LP3 has a much better tonearm - definitely waaay more value for the money when going for the LP3!
    Have you been hiking in boulder?
    Should've visited PS Audio!
    As for the "car issue"... that was just faked so they could drive away with your car. That ripoff trick is so old.

    The belt residue on the subplatter is probably a result of the belt slipping. I would use Goo Gone to clean the residue off the sub platter, then use alcohol to finish cleaning.
    A keyboard vacuum makes a wonderful way to get dust out of tight spaces. I never use canned air indoors.
    Minor quibble. I'm almost entirely certain that's not an AC motor in there. If it was AC you would not have speed adjustments for it, OR be able to change speed by pushbutton. I'm guessing you looked up some specs on it and someone along the line incorrectly put 'AC motor' in those specs. I've caught that error with other turntables.
    The only turntables in the 'consumer' market today with an AC motor are units like the U-Turn Orbit and similar, where you have to change the speed by moving the belt from one sheave on the motor pulley to another.
    Yes, it's possible to make multi-speed AC motors, but they probably drive the price up considerably.

    • @dougbrowning82
      @dougbrowning82 3 роки тому

      They used to make AC motor turntables with mechanical speed shifters. But it adds to the complexity of the machine, so companies like U-Turn stick to manual speed shifting, even if it means the belt and motor pulley have to be on the outside of the turntable.
