When I have based my responses to external events on surrender to God's will, I was able to surmount all difficulties with poise, peace and success. There is great wisdom in this concept, I request one and all who read this comment, to try it out and be happy and content ever after.

Swami Viveknanda had said "Free will is a misnomer. Will can never be free. How can it be free? It is only when the true Self has become bound that this so called will come into existence and not before. The will of Man is bound, but that which is the foundation of that Will is eternally free.

So, Freewill is to be free from ego, from destiny, from the fruit of what we do. Just going on our destined route, we have a choice of realising that the end dosnt matter and it only matters to our ego. We are free to realise this.

I heard about a study. They opened the head of a person and stimulated the brain-area which is responsible for bodypart movements. The person raised the arm or leg whenever the doctor stimulated the naked brain in the open head in this area. The person was asked why it moved its bodyparts. The answer was, because I wanted it.

There is no need to surrender. Vedanta has always been saying You are the Brahman (now, temporarily in human form). Renunciation and iniquiry in the right way will lead to realization.
Once you realize, unification with the consciousness (Yoga), it's done.

Krishna says in the Bhagavad-Gita Chapter 18 verses 13-16: " O mighty-armed Arjuna, according to the Vedanta there are five causes for the accomplishment of all action. Now learn of these from me."
"The place of action [ the body], the performer, the various senses, the many different kinds of endeavor, and ultimately the supersoul ( Vishnu )_these are the five factors of action."
"Whatever right or wrong action a man performs by body, mind or speech is caused by these five factors. Therefore one who thinks himself the only doer, not considering the five factors, is certainly not very intelligent and cannot see things as they are." We being the performer of action do have free will to act but it is done with the assistance of other factors, so we are doers of action, but we should not think that we are independent to act without the other four factors.

There is no freewill because for freewill to be there, “you” have to be there.. “You” don’t exist.. What you call “you” is bundle of thoughts of memories.. “You” only have a concrete idea of yourself based on what you know about yourself till now and it is all memories saved up as a program. The first thought was “I am the body”.. All other thoughts superimpose on this idea bringing an illusion that “you” exist.. You wanna find out how there is no “you”? Ok as you are reading this comment.. in the moment.. there is only reading.. Reader and Read have merged in reading.. There is only the experiencing but no separate experiencer or experienced at all.. It’s when the awareness of the continuity of moment which is timeless is interfered by a thought “I am reading this”.. “You” appear suddenly in a thought which is of the past and is a memory while the presence is lost there.. Do you see this? Everything is spontaneously happening in the moment as it is.. There is no doer at all.. It’s when identified with the thought of doin, there is an illusion of an existence of a doer and that doer assumes itself having a free will .. Without a doer, can there be a free will? Please inquire.. Let go of all speculations and learning thru mind.. Observe the mind and understand its movement in totality.. Something extraordinarily will happen ♥️

One more point. I love Sarvapriyananda but he only talks from within a tradition that itself has limitations. There has been tremendous research over the last 50 years since Edgar Cayce. What we have learned is there is an extremely complex metaphysical technology to the "Transactional Reaity". For example, when a soul dies, an important aspect of life in the higher realms is a "life review.' Here one has to feel, in a holographic like setting, not only the consequences and impact of every action one has on others but one also has to completely FEEL that impact as it was felt by the other. IMO this is what propels soul growth in the reincarnation process.
Now if there is no free will, **why is that event, which seems consistent for all souls**, even in existence?' What would be the point if there were no real accountability, no consequences for choices? Why bring into existence such a profound conscious examination of each life so decisions can be made about future growth?
That is just one of many examples that do not make sense to me.

You can assume to Be what you wish to Be here and now by being it in your imagination. This power of imagination is the power of Self in you which is pure potentiality and can be anyone and when identified with nothing, it simply is as it is altho even assuming itself as anything else , it has the capability to project as that altho its pure being is unaltered! But how the shift happens from this to that and what the body goes thru is not in your own power to choose.. This is the law of assumption and this is how one can create their own destiny by visualizing or affirming oneself as the ideal one wants to be HERE AND NOW and thru the power of Self within, one becomes that.. Be and it is.. This is the spiritual way.. just like by assuming Oneself with full conviction that I Am Brahman and not identifying with anyone and anything else, one can Actualize or Realize Brahman as well :) You can’t want or seek anything but you can Be anything for you are infinite possibilities:)

I don't agree with this. Quantum mechanics shows a universe of probabilities. My belief is collective human life is a giant oscilloscope constantly adjusting itself. Now it does this within certain parameters and much of what happens depends on prior choices that constitute causes and conditions. So a huge portion of most lives is determined via pre-birth contract, but there is room for choices at certain pivot points and the time one spends in dealing with karma is also partly a choice issue. Some lives are highly sripted, others less so.
In Journey of Souls, it was said some souls spend lifetimes working on certain issues. If there is no free will, nothing is to be worked on, yet apparently there is. How can there be consequences to actions if there is no one or nothing to generate the action?
I agree beyond the transactional reality, free will does not exist because nothing is real in and of itself. Universes come, universes go.

Hello sir, happy to see you here. I think what Swamiji trying to convey is that every one of us is Brahman(Atman) and Atman is ever free. Until we have names and forms because of our past karma we are tied up. Shri Krishna explains the same to Arjuna in the war field. When Arjuna say that how can I kill my own family members, Shri Krishna replies that you are already free as Atman and it is I am doing these to uphold Dharma. Karma sets in by intention rather than action. If the murder kills with evil intention then he is bound to karma. If the same killing was done by a police officer to safeguard people then it won't add to Karma. The action of killing is the same in both cases, but in the latter case, the intention is pure.
