    G'day Tim! Keen to know the distance from the gutter to the top of the rack. After one for my own GU but gotta make sure it'll fit in the garage!

      G'day mate,
      Just measured mine for you.
      From where the clamp goes around the gutter is 15cm to top of rack deck.
      Hope that helps mate and it fits.

      @@GonePh1shing My awning is the side roll out awning and the mounting brackets that hold the awning have it sitting flush with the top of the rack deck.
      So, no extra height from the 15cm i gave you.

      @@timbates4wdadventures Fantastic. I've got my eye on a 270 XT Max by The Bush Company. I've just discovered the brackets it comes with can be height adjusted so I should be able to get the bottom of the awning sitting just at or below the gutter line. Time to give Tradesman a call!

    Hey Tim did you find when the rails sit down onto gutters that they are a bit high...I have it on my roof and sitting down onto gutters but the claps does not sit well, should I undo the bolts loose 1st, then claps then go around and tighten the bolts up or am I missing something?

      Gday mate.
      No I sure don’t have that problem at all.
      My rack sits nicely into the gutters and the clamps , clamp down no worries at all.
      If you can, give the guys a call at Tradesmen Roofracks, I’m sure they’ll help you out.

    Love your enthusiasm mate..When we return home next year ,when the flights open , we are off camping every month for a week . , I will not have a 4x4 , but we will have a great time ...Thank Tim ...

    If you need any more of those nuts they are called Unistrut channel nuts and you can buy them at electrical wholesalers. They even have spring loaded ones that are easier to use as they wedge themselves in place.

      I have a bag of nuts and bolts for that rack.
      I have checked them all for being tight, and so far no worries at all.

      Chris, what year model Hilux mate? I am thinking about one of these racks for my 2020 SR5. Are they noisy at all when over 80kph?

    I have their oval aluminium on my 200 series great rack holds plenty of wood on the way to camp and chain saw swag etc best thing Tim Aussie made so if there ever was a problem you have back up
    Good set up you have to take it off or put it on Thanks Tim

      All Aussie made and I've never had an issues with any of the racks from Tradesman Roof Racks.

    love the mounting bracket, but i hate how the rack it self hangs over the brackets, looks weird + the GU is not on the website only y62 and navara

      My GU is the first one to get this rack.
      Now it’s fitted up some changes are going to be made.
      The width is one of the changes they want to make.

      @@timbates4wdadventures I'm interested in the mounting bracket for my GQ i wonder if they will make one down the road. yeah the rack needs some work, a bit more of a lower profile and the width, should in my opinion match the bracket width flush

    I like that rack. Especially how it sits low. I have a Rola rack. It also sits low to the roof. But...... washing the roof is a nightmare. Hope you fair better. The good bit? Virtually no wind noise.

    I have a ARB alloy one, had it fitted by ARB in Tassie here. Now i bought it in 2015 and its a good bit of kit APART from the bloody wind noise. Sound like i have a jet engine on the roof and highway speeds in windy conditions.

      ​@@timbates4wdadventures G'day tim happy to hear your's has no wind noise because it drives my wife and i nuts. Not sure how to fix it, i bought a wind deflector for it but didn't make much of a difference. Might have to take it back to ARB and ask about it.

      Thanks Timbo, got to seriously put my Ranger on a very serious weight diet, put it on the scales at Broadford on Thur with full fuel & full gear & just me with only 100kg's left on my GVM.
      My biggest problem is I travel to, to many remote places where I "might" need something & so I pack it in tje 1% just in case of because it can take a week + just to get a $1 part if you know what I mean ( mind you 99% of what I take away I never end up using but you can bet the day I leave it behind will be the day tjat I need it & have to wait a very expensive week to get it )

    I would imagine that they are excellent roof racks however, they are $1500 and they don't make one for my 4WD, I suspect because my car is old and doesn't have gutters. When you're on a tight budget, it is hard to justify that much money, I guess that is why Kings stuff is so popular? However, I would much prefer to buy Aussie every time.

      Buy what works for you and as long as that gear gets you out in the bush and enjoying where you are going, thats all you need mate.
      You dont need to spend big bucks to get out and camp in the bush.

    Hey Tim, Currently looking at an 07 GU Patrol ST-S Auto with 320,000km as my first car. Do you have any tips when looking at purchasing a car like this? It already has some nice equipment (Bull bar, roof rack and some lights) and it's within my budget so I would love to get it. Thanks.

      Mine is a 2009 with 348000ks on the clock.
      Best thing you could do with a car with that many Ks on the clock, is get a good mechanic to check it over.
      It would be well worth it.

      I've nor driven it for a fair while.
      But, social media is all over it and its sounding pretty challenging in spots.
      Mostly in the top half between the heli pad and the Bluff.

    Sweet,haven't roof racks come a long way compared to the 70s old steel ones. Mine on the landy is aluminum one with sides to hold the water bladder and roof lights as well as my satellite pod and solar panel. Couldn't do without one,aerial would be perfect on top,but would come to grief all the time.

    G'day Batesy, what made you give the Tradesman away mate? I prefer the basket style with meshing, not sure i'd have the balls to start hoofing logs and branches up there without it mate. Was it a weight issue?. Cheers Moose.

      G'day mate,
      The new rack is still made by Tradesman Roof Racks.
      But, with my new interior setup, i dont need to carry much on the roof any more.
      Only items that now go on the roof is swag and fire wood.
      So, i don't need that basket style anymore.
      Plus the new rack is about 120mm lower in height.

      @@MOOSEDOWNUNDER Gday mate, you kinda do have to watch how you load fire wood on top.
      But those rails are only about 40cm apart, im always cutting fire wood close to a meter in length.
      Once you have a few lengths up on the rack, the rest stack up no worries.

    Hey Tim, So i was watching the newest vid uploaded to Roothy's channel and i spotted a familiar bloke on there he was as fit as an old mountain goat haha, one question though in alot of the shots of you you looked like you were really cranky haha im was like whats wrong timmy hahah blast from the past.

      Now, they will advertise them.

    1. Paid advertisement using a GU, yet nothing on their website for a GU. 2. No mention of weight or height of rack from gutter? 3. I called Tradesman Roof Rack recently chasing pricing & photos on a GU for the last rack you gave them a plug for - said they would get back to me, but did not. You'd think getting a sale would be their primary goal? Keep it!

      It went on no worries. So, you will now start to see them advertised on the websites.
