Dear John is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1988 to 1992. The series was originally based on the British sitcom of the same name.
Dear John starred Judd Hirsch as easygoing Drake Prep high school teacher John Lacey who is dumped by his wife, Wendy, via a Dear John letter. Wendy ends up with everything in the divorce settlement, including custody of the couple's son, forcing John to move into an apartment in Ozone Park, Queens.
John soon joins the One-2-One Club, a self help group for divorced, widowed or lonely people. The group is led by Louise (Jane Carr), a sex-obsessed British woman. Other members of the group include Kate McCarron (Isabella Hofmann), a sweet divorcée; Kirk Morris (Jere Burns), a cocky ladies' man; Ralph Drang (Harry Groener), a shy and neurotic tollbooth collector; Bonnie Philbert (Billie Bird), a feisty senior citizen; and Tom, Mrs. Philbert's quiet boyfriend (Tom Willett).
I'm here because I started watching Featuremans youtube channel and wanted to see his show 👍
Who asked?
Your mother did.
@@AH-cx5bs - I did.
I really miss shows like this. Growing up in the 80’s and 90’s was a great time for sitcoms.
Judd Hirsch is one of the great actors I have seen.
i love the show intro because it makes you feel for him and thats the goal , to relate
Maria Berkosky your relations seem so strong ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💥🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺😍😘😜
I hate it. The woman can't sing so I skip over it
Can you imagine a kirk in 2021 with the Metoo movement 🤣🤣🤣
"I'm not an expert on turtles. But, these look somewhat dead." LMAO.
Its shocking isn't it?
Only discovered this American version of Dear John. I'm going to enjoy watching these. Thanks for uploading :-)
Kirk is a riot ;))
I caught this show when it first came out years ago. Now, for some odd reason, the theme song popped into me noggin and looked it up here on the tube. I watched every episode. Now I seem to have found "Harold" from The Red Green Show, ... which is none other than ... Ralph. LOVE both shows, just good stuff.
I loved this show also. I am so glad you posted them. I am going to look at them over and over again. I have never forgotten this show. Keep them coming. Again, Thankx
I thought of this show for the first time in about 25-30 years for some reason, and I laughed out loud thinking of Ralph whining about being in the camper upside down for two days in the toilet. 11:08 the tale begins of when the drunks pushed it off a cliff and I couldn't stop laughing!
I've tried to explain the story to friends or family whenever we're camping in our camper😅 I forgot the name of this show as it aired when I was a young teenager. Google to the rescue with much searching and strange key words/bizarre searching. Now I can finally show this episode to them so they don't think I'm crazy.
Tom willet sits in the back of the support group room. I don't think he speaks a word ever. Love his channel "featureman"
Tom Willet has much to teach us all. Especially young people.
Mike White he will teach you how to make a mean grilled cheese sammie on his channel!!
Faded Glory The lesson I remember is you do not need to be taught to learn. You can learn to learn on your own. You do not need college.
I very recently subscribed to Featureman. And now, because of reading your comment, IAM persuaded that this is why the Dear John pilot came up on my home feed. 👍
Kirk made this show.
LMFAO - I was JUST going to wrote how this episode was crap until Kirk came in. hahaha he makes Angie Tribecca too
Jere Burns is a great comedic actor. 7 years later in the 1995 movie "Greedy" he got to co-star with Phil Hartman, Ed Begley Jr., Michael J. Fox, Kirk Douglas, etc.
I hadn’t seen this show since back then and when I thought about the show, I thought about him
Kirk rules!
It's so funny that both Ralph and Kirk appear on Breaking Bad. Both are great actors.
Wow! What part was Ralph? ❤
Great show. ❤❤❤
Best Show ever.
Thanks for uploading.
I am so glad you posted this. I don't get antenna tv and it's not on DVD.
Antennae?! Do you have a rotary phone too?!
@@edwardgaines6561 lmao, now that's funny!
Antenna tv is a tv CHANNEL
@@edwardgaines6561with streaming services who pays for TV shows with commercials? I've had litteral rabbit ears on my TV for the last 20 years. Im way on the outskirts of Denver and get about 50 chanels over the air. Can't stand commercials so I watch Netflix but occasionally watch the news.
I loved this show. Still do. Thanks for posting.
.
I forgot how funny this show was!
Whoever wrote this, is a comedy genius.''Any sexual problems?'. Love it.
This is based on an British sitcom with the same name. The UK version (and about 6 episodes of this version, including this episode), was written by John Sullivan from South London, who wrote lots of other sitcoms that were very popular in the UK, such as Citizen Smith, Just Good Friends, and Only Fools And Horses, which, back in 2004, was ranked the best British sitcom ever.
@@Horsley-Green Thank you so much. Yes the writer of only fools. Comic genius. I've seen the British series.
Great finish to the episode to make the call-back to Ralph's camper story at 11:00, with the reaction shots from John and Kate saying everything. I find lots of inspiration for my own writing from this show by John Sullivan, and tried using the same device in one of my pantomimes.
Thanks for posting this. ❤️
my very favorite episode! too
the way all the jokes are set up to payoff later was brilliant...just ralph's annoying.
my very favorite episode! thank you !
Eeew, using someone else's razor.
Classic show. Still makes me laugh to this day.
30 years later I still recall the scene where Judd accidentally drops his shaving razor in the tank and zaps Ralph’s new turtle. Then Judd starts scarfing down his cereal.
Featureman brought me here
Best comedy ever !
Is Ralph modelled on James Spader? 😃
“Next up, race becomes an issue on LA Law.” That was a very 1988 line-up preview.
That preview at the end took me right back to 1988. 227, Amen, The Golden Girls, Empty Nest, Hunter... Man I miss those times.
This one one of the best theme songs. Makes you feel something from the beginning. I think this is as close to time travel as ill ever come. The theme song and the show just took me back in time.
Nope one of the more annoying. She can't sing so I skip over it
@@stopdeforestation do you feel better now? Smh!
@@stopdeforestation ill be honest people like you aggravate the shit out of me. Always have something negative to say. You could have kept scrolling yet you felt the need to bring negativity and ignorance to my comment. People like you are the reason i hate social media. You keep skipping the theme song, i really don't give a shit, nor do i give a shit about your opinion
maybe because I'm American I think the American version is more funny, plus maybe because I grew up watching these shows.
***** well I'm kind of a Anglophobe.hate the food,music,weather&humor
Speak glish

what.spell check before talking shit.
I had no idea the US made their own version. Why couldn’t they just watch and enjoy ours?
The American version does not compete with the original UK series, even though judd hirsch is great.
Anyone know which model Ralph has on his desk in his apartment? I don't recognize that machine.
I love Kate.
The looks on his face …poor guy
Okay, the theme song's vocalist has a fine vibrato.
I think Kirk would say you left out an R. Just saying
You need to See the Original UK Version
Not bad ...but English Kirk far funnier and livelier
I agree British version original and best
54 thousand people returned for episode 2. Cool. Me too.
Quagmire did born here!
9:20 the lead up to the little red and white camper story. 22:00 the punchline
Kirk was great
ja thanks 4 posting....
Kirk trying to be Owen Wilson trying to be the fonz.
I prefer the UK version.
Alice Lelean beautiful name, Alice, and I agree. It tries to be as good as the UK version though.
Me too
Yes fave eppisode
Ralph is so annoying.
An episode written by the original writer of the British series
What the sad sack men need is a *FIGHT CLUB.*
Where's Tyler Durden?
This show could’ve easily gone 3 seasons at least
There are 4 seasons.
@@proapocalypse1448 4 really? Yeah that was probably enough
I don't understand what's even the point of shooting an episode if it doesn't have Tom Willett in it.
The show was funny and the cast were good some people claim the British version is better although the brits are boring except for As time goes by and keeping up appearances
British one original and best and Brits do better comedies
🙏💜🇨🇦
TikTok brought me here
If there is a blueprint on how to remake a sitcom by just not getting it this is it. There isn't an element of pathos in the whole thing yet it was the basic requirement that underlined the comedy in the original. This US version has reduced it to a succession of gags from a badly reinterpreted version of the original scripts and badly directed, the actors must have had a hell of a time to get anything out of it.
terrortorn - you nailed it! I haven't seen the Brit version but I see here why those in the entertainment industrial complex have little respect for the public.
Risking wrath here, but this Texan popped a cork at 5:00 p.m. on January 31st this year to celebrate BREXIT with the UK. Congrats! Your Swamp media was horrified. Our Swamp media is horrified by the press conference with Rudy Giuliani, Sydney Powell and others who exposed the massive voter fraud that inevitably fits the established pattern: all plot against Donald J Trump and the will of the people backfires to expose the corruption is high places in the Swamp and the propagossip panels, scripted covidsations and rabid bias of the Swamp media. ♥️🇺🇲♥️🇬🇧
I thought it was really good.
They did the same with Faulty Towers and many more of our gems.
Wow, catcalling used to be really funny
I enjoyed this series but the characters of Kate and Ralph were very dull and/or annoying. Also, Mrs. Philbert's constant references to wild sex got old quick.
