I'm a solo main, warriors are my favorite class, it's so frustrating that I as a warrior in solo lane is put in a disadvantage against a mage in solo, like solo is meant to be the lane for tanks but now mages beat me in that lane because they just can. In the past when I played warrior in solo I'd get excited seeing a mage in solo because I knew if he/she got careless I could dive them and smash them but now when I play warrior in solo it's more like "fuck another mage in solo."

don't forget the only anti crit item in the game has health in it. I feel like Hi Rez went in a really roundabout way of dissolving the tank meta we saw before this season. The problem people had with tanks was that they could deal tons of damage by building practically no damage items and not taking any damage late game when they dive the back line. Instead of nerfing base damage on those characters they just made protections a joke so that tanks now get punished. This isn’t the correct approach because now supports as well as anybody who builds any protection item (like assassins building late game mantle) are also punished for wanting survivability Edit: In a perfect world, late game the solo laner harasses the back line in order to create space for the jungler to dive safely and burst down the carry roles as well as the support staying back and peeling for and protecting the carry roles with their aura items and cc (this is a simplification and implies a standard team comp i.e. 1 of each class). However Hi Rez wants every role to do a lot damage. This is why tanks have high base damage, and also why damage dealing roles are given more tools to deal more damage to all roles. It’s a bad system that leads to every role feeling too squishy and useless late game unless you are a mage or hunter

Support main here, when I play even now it feels like I'm made of paper. When this update hit its going to feel like paper soaked in gasoline. Greedy support doesn't even begin to cover what's coming. Guardians building beads, aegis and no auras plus %pen to hopefully make there high base damage mater in some way.

@@Jormyyy smite has this weird obsession of making changes just for the sake of making changes then when it breaks something instead of just nerfing the change or reverting it they change a bunch of other stuff to the point that the god barely resembles itself anymore.
Smite likes to nerf certain gods and buff items meant to counter said god at the same time. They should do 1 or the other then see if they need more changes.
On top of this they first nerf Nemean Lion, then remove the thorns effect entirely. This is what I don’t understand at all. When I saw a 1 black stack item, I literally laughed out loud. I’ve heard it is going to 2 block stacks, which imo is still a joke on all but maybe 2 Gods. Every MOBA has a thorns effect item and it creates a healthy Meta. I couldn’t help noticing their huge smiles when they announced they were destroying Nemean Lion, almost as if they are all carry mains.
for some reason everyone hates reflect items, even though they have a place in these games. It suprised the hell out of me when 4/5 of my smite streamers straight up applauded the Nemean nerf. i get players like barra are biased but they should be able to tell when unhealthy metas are forming. i almost screamed when i saw the changes to pen. like really, what are they thinking

Nemean lion did reflect but not enough to be useful long term and thorns was temporary so its literally a matter of just don't left click for a few seconds. Not to mention the whole reason people built nemean was so solo labers could at least have a chance fighting the carry's so nerfing nemean to the ground like that was dumb. The new passive is good it just needs more stacks on it. As for the pen changes I personally dont mind. What got me confused was them buffing pen but then nerf most defense items. Like shouldnt the defense be buffed slightly or just left alone. Most people wouldnt mind the pen changes if they didnt destroy defense too.
2 blocks is nothing when they have over 2 attack speed, and even then it's still shit. Thorns should've been buffed not fucking nerfed into the ground.
Reflect is unhealthy for the game as it punishes you for being good and hitting your abilitys. The new nemean is very obviously a counter to assasins and not hunters. It counters hydras and will be picked up by mid laners and adcs. It is a very strong item as it hard counters certain chars like loki arachne or mercury. Imo thorns should be removed too as it is just stupid i once oneshot myself as merc on a thorns nemean hercules that is simply bad gamedesign. They should just buff some defense items like thebes or urchin and add a new mitigation based item like onis or just buff onis. Tanks should never be able to 1v1 a carry that is not their job. They are there to soak up dmg and be a shield for their own carrys (hence the name support).
I had taken a long break from smite and the first thing I noticed was how wild soul reaver was as an item. Literally everything you need to kill a tank in one item and they said they wanted to get rid of the one stop shop for tank killing in ob shard. Now they do same thing to heart seeker. Hunter's had to build two items to get that effect back in my day.
I’m a solo main and I feel like I never go up against another warrior, always mages 🤦🏼♂️ last warrior fight I had was with a bellona and neither of us were dying but it was fun and actually a challenge now it’s just hades with their simple combo
Solo lane is basically a second mage lane now. I mean, why not? You don't get punished late game, a lot of people don't know the way to play against mages, and even if they know what to do a good number of warriors just simply have bad matchups against mage solos.
"You don't have to peel if they're already dead" - Mid-Season Support main 2020 I think the meta is going to be a 5v5 burst-damage meta, which leads to the absence of Hunter, Warriors AND Guardians. Instead of 3 Hunter/2 Guardian, it'll be 3 Mage/2 Assassin at this rate.
For solo lane I feel that you are forced to go atleast two to three damage items in order to be useful in late game teamfights now, because since most hunters, and mages usually go full pen, you have to essentially burst them before they insta-nuke you in solo and its so frustrating.
Yeah, and now with the stupid amount of 10% pen, the junglers can take you out with their burst too. There's 0 reason to play a full tank anymore, and that just sucks

I’ve always thought the pen changes are relics from the days when s5 Solo’s werd coming out 2-5 levels ahead, but like, when you have tanks actively picking up beads in a lot of games, you should recognize something is wrong. That being said, looks like Zhong is back on the menu Bois
I used to play solo often and there are few times I don’t pick up beads because if I get rooted I’m dead no mater how tanky I build it’s made me swap to jungle for most of my matches recently
I hate the fact that Soul reaver and Heartseeker now have percent pen AND health percentage pen... Like as a tank you focus on one or the other more depending on what the enemy is building but they build those items and they shred anything you build...
They need to add a breastplate similar to spectral armor. Though instead of reducing crit damage by 50%, it negates 50% of physical and magical penetration. Then I feel like tanks have a fair chance.
Let's not forget that Tanks had a way of fighting back against high damage characters, it was called Thorns and Nemean. A way of telling ADCs and Mages "stop hitting for one sec". But apparently "not hitting" was too hard so Thorns got nerfed into the ground, Nemean lost it's damage reflection, and Crit Meta is the strongest it's ever been, so you literally die FASTER since hitting crits it's easier now. But yeah, Fuck tanks, am I right?
Make matters worse, they removed max tier 2 items when they could've explored more possibilities. Glad Shield was only broken on a few gods like King Arthur, while merely an extra source of sustain for some warriors. Berserkers by contrast almost never made it to late game. This was the point, an item very easy to get in early game that fell off hard by late game. Didn't take much gold, and couldn't be upgraded-had to be sold for even better items. Why couldn't hi-rez just make more variations for these for other lanes?
I think it's because they were usually either really good and always bought or pretty meh and never bought. Ichaival for hunters and Dynasty Plate Helm for mages were both mid tier items that were like that

I haven't seen so many damage solo laners for years...I had three games in a row recently with no warrior OR support on the opposite team, but 3 mages and 2 physicals. It worked very well, even in the later stages, as the did so much damage in all stages of the game.
And i thought i was going insane, tanks have felt weak this season, once i saw the Physical % Pen being brought in, i felt like playing tank/support just wasn't worth it, having to switch to a squishy healer support (in a season where anti heal has been mental) feels like the only option to me, yet it also feels ineffective due to said antiheal

Cries in solo main. I am trying mid and ADC BC one of my favorite gods like Thoth and Medusa are needed for it. But I main solo still using set or tyr. Plus I like playing support like kephri and jorm.

This tank hate reminds me of the rampant anti-tank mentality that Blizzard had for Overwatch a few years ago. They were either releasing new characters, or revamping old characters' kits to make it seem like they were made to counter tanks exclusively, which made the game a living hell for tank mains like myself.

"Pick a warrior or guardian for support" gets clapped by everyone. Khepri and Ymir still feel nice though. But then again I may be biased since when I play those 2 tanks, I normally win
I've been trying to get supports with extra utility besides front lining as a result- sylvanus with the heal, geb with the shield... this is really more of a backline peely support meta. As for solo, well... we might be returning to the season 1 days of Bakasura solo, sad to say. Most carries seem to be way more scared of a fed assassin than a warrior right now, and who feeds himself faster than a Baka with golden blade?
I would be more okay with the percent pen hitting tanks the way it does if % health damage wasn't so good. You can't opt into more HP and less prots. There is no winning.
Yeah I play Hybrid Athena as support and rely on my CC to support since CC is the only effective thing at this point that can change the turn of battle. People always freak out (mainly a very conservative or unflexible jungler or mid) when I got damage on Athena. My build goes like this 1. Warrior's blessing 2. Shoes of focus 3. Doom Orb 4. Mantle of Discord 5. Polynomicron 6. Rod of Tahuti I like to have a presence with my carry outside of just giving them some mediocre buffs from item passives. Since Tanks tend to just get ignored and it becomes a game of who can kill the carry first. when I go hybrid with Athena I don't get the problem as I am a threat the enemy team has to take into account as well, plus the ability to save my carry from a jungle rotation with Athena's taunt is priceless, especially when it leads to shutting down their jungle or punishing them to retreat and stay off the field longer. The only time I ever lose with my Athena build is if the enemy mid and Jungle rotate into Duo at the same time, the only carry's that have been abled to beat me without the aid form jungle or mid ganking is Skadi and Muzen Kab. Skadi because they overbuffed every pet's damage and Muzen Kab due to being the living embodiment of CC and AA spam. Full tank just doesn't feel effective anymore and more like a dead weight in a fight, as im not helping to kill enemies late game and am just a mobile punching bag towards the end if im going full defense. The problem with Warriors and tanks in actuality is sustain. The sustain game is just way to busted. Glad shield is pretty much a must have for any solo lane or warrior in general, which won't be an issue soon, but then you get the broken built in sustains combined with items that support sustain abilities. Regrowth shield as an example on Hercules. But the biggest offender of built in sustain on a Warrior would have to be Chaac. His passive is just way to unfair on top of having an aura that heals himself and slows. Who in their right mind thought that being abled to get 5-6 basics with no timer to limit the stacks and use an ability with no cost to mana AND making its cooldown lower by 2 seconds, must have been the same lad who thought Yemoja being abled to heal with auto attacks was a good idea. Arthur is abusive yes, but he's like He Bo and Bellona, thats all he really rely's on and your dumb if you get into a boxing match unprepared for him. Plus glad shield will see him being a bit less sustain abusive early (all warriors except built ins will be less sustain abusive) Im expecting a Achilles meta again in solo after this upcoming update. I'd like to see more diversity in Solo, but the problem is Solo doesn't get much help from Jungle when they need it. Jungler's don't even help get Tiki anymore. In the rare chance I can jungle I always help solo get Tiki unless they are just dominating their lane, beyons that I tend to leave Duo to fight on their own unless I see the enemy jungle over in duo or heading that way, they need an opportunity to push, or just need help in general. Solo comes down to stalemates way to much if both solo's are skilled, then it comes down to jungle. Which most jungles don't help or poorly help and act like rotating is a chore compared to them feeding off of mid and camps.
I'm mostly a solo lane user and this is just purely stupid. The game shouldn't be about how much numbers you get from using one ability. It should also be about how many abilities you can take before you fall.

I barely build tank items anymore, unless situation absolutely demands it, I'm having much more fun and success with more offensive builds, since even with very high armor / magic resistance and HP I feel like I'm naked or wearing a paper bag at best, on top of that you can't outbox anyone, it's simply not fun.
I can definitely hop on the dislike train for this mid season change. I think there's quite a lot of good stuff but I feel like they could have done something to help out Warriors and Guardians counter it as well. I find it quite enjoyable to play Solo lane, farm, and then know that I can pretty much set up a tent and camp for a week inside of the enemy Pheonix without a worry. However there is a chance that this mid season change could be very subversive in comparison to what we expect. Who knows! With that said, I hope all the Tank mains out there hold out for the long haul, and good luck! :)
I am not really surprised honestly. Hirez has always had a questionable balance team, not sure why all of sudden they said "Fuck Tanks". Myswell just build full magical and join the rest of your team trying to nuke others. Probably not going to play until this is fixed in some way considering I enjoy tanks.

The problem for tanks is actually worse for tanks than just squishies getting better pen. Tanks also used to have better items for fighting squishies, like old void stone/shield with flat pen. Hirez has consistently been removing flat pen options from tanks meaning that, not only do we get killed easier, but we cant fight back as well either.
They completely just destroyed the ideas of tanks as a whole. They changed glad and berserker which is what gave tanks a chance early to mid game and now they buffed pen. Essentially tanks are not gonna be able to do anything and play the role their supposed to because anytime they do their just gonna die. And that really angers me as someone who mains tanks.
We'll see where this next patch brings, I don't predict it will be good for tanks, meaning my main boy Ares my get to gather some dust, which is sad considering he finally gets his visual update in a few days
As a solo main and support secondary, i dont half hate this meta of lets just get blitzed by everything and then be blamed for not peeling, no matter what you build 1 cc and its over, think they need to shale the items up.for tanks too, no issues with the pen changes if there was a possible way to add exciting new tank items
Tank items need better passives. The auras are mostly just prots that won’t help against pen anyway. Like breastplate of valor doesn’t even have a passive and is just a CDR Stat stick at this point
And tbh spectral is better than breastplate atm because crit is so prevalent, the same stats as breastplate except instead of CD you get the crit reduction passive
As a tank/ solo/ support main, I will definitely be disappointed if this becomes the "anti-tank" meta. It happened to Paladins where frontlines are literally nuked in seconds by damage dealing characters (ie: Skye) for no reason. It feels very catered to the casual "haha insta lock dps" types of players, and I really hope that's not where Smite is heading. However, I am a fan of a meta where it isn't frowned upon for a tank character to get power items.
I rather a tank meta because it actually takes more skill to juggle resources and abilities but one shotting everything is cheap and an easy way to play a game.
The problem I think this is trying to solve without talking about it is the fact that a baccus can jump on any squishy, pop his kit and that squishy is dead. Full tank build doesn't matter. They need to nerf the damage of guardians, they should be for control, and not for back line deletion, and then get away scott free.
This is Bacchus for you, he is a diving guardian, he doesn't have as many peel as Sylvanus, which he compesates going directly into the backline and displacing the enemy team.

I have the same problem, but with Soul Eater... I had a Mulan vs Sobek match yesterday (me being Sobek) and Mulan went SE... buildkng tanky felt simply useless, it didnt have any impact on the lanibg phase, while before, it actually did. Only after my 2nd tank item did it start feeling like I'm somewhat tanky, but as I said, only SOMEWHAT. I was seriously just considering buildkng damage, since Mulan was shredding me anyway... Why does a sustain item, that can easily be built on warriors, have to have 10% pen added to it? Why cant it just be a sustain item?
titan's probably been trying to get an aphro meta, from all the unwanted aphro buffs, to the anti-tank item buffs... the only way to play a tank will be to have an aphro ult you in the middle of a team fight
I think a key point in why the changes are bad for the game is that stacking defense inherently gives diminishing returns (due to the formula for calculating defense), and having so much percentage pen accessible to carries only further increases the DR from defense. This forces us to either: A.) Attempt to stack more protections to make our post-ignored defense values higher or B.) Build more damage items in order to box effectively, detracting from our role as a front liner due to the trade off On the other hand, stacking damage and penetration intrinsically has no penalty because damage scaling is either linear or increasingly multiplicative. 80% scaling on an ability will see a linear increase to its damage per point of attack power, and any amount of penetration will further increase the damage dealt. Furthermore, TitanRez have proven they WANT tanks to be easier to kill and squishies to be harder to kill with the latest bonus balance (see heartseeker and soul reaver annotations), and I hate to say it, but Smite is slowly turning into the snowbally hyper carry style seen in League of Legends, which is arguably worse for this game since body blocking and zoning have a bigger role in team fights here. I can only hope they realize the error of their ways sooner than later.
I'm hoping we will see a similar overhaul for tank items beginning of season 8. To round everything out. Because most tank items are just trash right now. Even the pros thing so, fineOk said it in one of his videos recently
I don't think this will be as bad as you say. Frontliners will still be frontliners it will jusy change which ones are best. Mostly I think this will kill dive comps which we've been seeing so much of, and force it back to true team fights. Your solo laner and support will need their carries' damage when they engage, on bith teams. I mean I'm a solo/sup main myself so I don't want to see tanks go the way of the dodo but I really do think this is targeting tanky dive comps and lazy teamfight strategies more than just tanks in general.
With how they changed items so that obsidian shard and titans aren't required they have made percent mitigations a must in tank builds. If you want to be a tank similar to before this season then you have to build oni hunters and spirit robe and even then it doesn't do enough. It is stemming the bleeding but not stopping it
Maxed out magical protections and a damn Hera just chewed through it in 1 burst putting me in fucking red. 3.5k health also. No wonder everyone is just building damage somewhere in their builds now.
RIP warriors in solo. Part of the problem is titan forge doing everything they can to make sure every game gets to late game, so all these items that shred tanks will always be bought before the game ends. There's no "play early game comp and win before the enemy late game comp comes online." Its too easy to come back into the game with the current meta.
same issue with anti-heal meta it killed heroes who have heal in their kit make them useless ,i don't mean either healing meta to be back but anti-heal stack crazy like 145% and crazy shiit we see people do its just sad and makes hp regen and life steal useless
I got a question you argue that tanks should not lose to assassin and mages but why should 1 king arthur for example whose fed because of solo lane farm be able to 1v2 at 10 mins against an assassin and mage when you get to teamfights and now consider being on the losing end you lose your assassin and mage which more than likely are the Anti heal on the team in this shit healer meta then you settle on losing an objective or worse you lose the teamfight and the objective right after. If you want to make the game more balanced items like glad shield and berserkers shield that needed to changed that's statistics going by most games on many different levels of play including casual play and not only ranked. No matter how much you nerf solo lane they are still impactful and right now it feels like they are too impactful i can have a shitty mid, adc or jungler and win but when i got a shitty solo it's game over. And one last them percentage pen ends up helping your squishies survive too but the mentality that solo lane should be the one carrying the game is wrong that's the job of the damage dealers.
As a support main can confirm being a tank is slowly becoming pointless. I play alot of Athena .Shes super fun and pretty good at helping your team lock people down or peal for your squishes. but now every time i try to get my combo out i lose half my hp at least and have to back/get a healing iteam. Honestly at this point if i went damage Athena and just tried nuking people with my ult i could get more work done.
I just wish that they couldnt buy a butt load of pen or crit and then im basically useless i go from a guardian or warior to a mage or adc with no damage XD

I think a mix of health and prot items will be meta for tanks. Max health builds have max health damage counters and now max prot builds have pen counters. Might be more interesting in item pools for tanks.
@@highinquisitor0083 I've been trying to get ahead of what the meta will be and I agree, been testing it with sylvanus and geb this style of build: thebes - just for 50 of each prot and the hp sustain oni hunters gem of iso E-staff pridwen relic dagger blink + shell without oni hunters and say on sylvanus going more traditional with lotus crown, i am getting shredded, having the % mitigation with the health/damage hybrids in E-staff and gem of iso, coupling that with pridwen procs i've found some good success, even managing to box a few mages pretty well because you can blink-ult initiate fights and get your pridwen procs, then use shell as team initiate after you, then it is just a matter of 'can I hit my CC abilities better than they can juke'
I agree. They're basically making tanky builds less and less effective, and at some point that would result in people just building damage instead. I feel that we are already almost at that point tbh.
I agree titan seem to be hating on tanks (warriors and guardians) why dont they add new items exclusive to only those to types of gods, just like only assassin can build katana items why dont we have a new item branch that only guardians can buy, and a new branch of items only warriors can buy, this way it's easier (in theory) to balance e each class better and make them more relevant in their respective roles, I've been wondering this for a while and mentioned it a few times on twitter but usually get stupid responses and no logical reason or example of why it wouldnt work, just that it's a stupid idea, too many classes have too much access to too many items and it throws balance off completely Just my opinion but I think it should be looked into Also it seems like with the ease of access to pen items coming up your probably be better off building hp over def (I know qins and heartseeker will hurt but it negates a lot of the %pen items so that's something else to think about)
Bring hp back to tank items and take more power away from tank items the reason that the tank and bruiser metas are so common it because you can't get enough hp to feel truly tanky and have good defense with it with all the tank shred available they need to place tanks solidly in that role of burst resistant damage sponge
That won't help at all. There is a hp cap at 5500 and even if you have more hp it won't matter because anti tank items deal % damage. So 3k hp or 4k hp won't help against them at all.
Not particularly about the topic, but pertaining to something mentioned about solo laners...how or what r ur views on mages in the solo lane at higher lvls (or any really) of play. I like to play (and i play them really well, plat+ with diamond borders) hades or chang'e in solo? I know they r viable, i win my lane with them often and well, but moreso, how does my team view that or greatly effected by it even if im winning my lane? Cuz im not going to be a frontliner in most cases, and in rare cases i have seen solo laners just give up their lane to me to rotate (to a lane they can win or help win), therefore forcing me out of my winning lane. I guess i just want to know if u hate seeing mages picked in the solo lane? I also dont know how often u have to deal with it being a solo main, but anyone is welvome to reply of course. P.s. after rereading my post i added this to clerify that i didnt mean to sound like i am inconvenienced by being forced to rotate, i do know how and when. When i say "forced" i suppose i meant when they GIVE UP their lane to me...as in, theyre not coming back, and they just perm bully the mid and jungle. So its more than just a "usual" rotation for me... Sry, didnt want ppl to reply "u should be rotating with ur laner if theyre missing" or something like that. Also sry about the wall of text...
PREACHHH I've been saying this for the longest, people who main backline roles constantly complain about solo laners causing them to be nerfed for no reason at all and dont realize the solo laners was either ahead in levels, or they did not build antilheal/%Pen/%Health items yet, but those items over perform. Damage solo meta will completely eliminate a class from smite as warriors are not as good as assassins or mages with damage builds and they can't peel so they can't go support either I really can't stand how prevalent percent pen is in this game and how they nerfed hybrid items and warriors so much, also why the hell did they think it was ok to allow titans and ob shard to overcap? All this is, is an attempt by hi rez to make a damage meta therefore a faster paced game which in their mind makes spl more interesting to casual viewers and gets more people to watch I'm almost certain that is their agenda.
All I'm hoping for is some general tank item overhaul, I don't mind the new item changes since they open up alot of build paths but it's not exactly ideal for tanks to get blown up. Also since sustain is gone from most warriors now it'll probably end up with the Jungler being given too many targets throughout the entire game allow them more farm and nullifying the solo role which sucks.
Also this is no hate against any role I just want the game to not have an all damage meta where tanks are useless and squishes are running around all willy nilly
In my opinion it needs to be a mix of damage and sustain in the meta if too much damage theres like 7 second team fights and press a button and wipe out all, too much sustain and its a boring game of cc until they die there needs to be a mix or else its just boring as hell and not fun to play
I think we are going into a full damage or very heavy damage solo meta. Similar to the season 1 solo meta which was basically all items with health and power or health and attack speed. The solo has to be able to KILL the ADC or Mid isolated 1 on 1 or they get poked out of fights too fast and they are going to need to wager/leverage their health more than ever
As a support main I can say without a doubt, I'm going exclusively Warrior support/Asassin support. I'm not looking forward to getting shredded by Baron or Nox support. Now that Rat has that broken acorn than I'm even more worried that Rat now has not only great early game, but melting guardians late as support with another assassin coming for you. Well, Hercules support, here I come.

I'm a solo main, warriors are my favorite class, it's so frustrating that I as a warrior in solo lane is put in a disadvantage against a mage in solo, like solo is meant to be the lane for tanks but now mages beat me in that lane because they just can. In the past when I played warrior in solo I'd get excited seeing a mage in solo because I knew if he/she got careless I could dive them and smash them but now when I play warrior in solo it's more like "fuck another mage in solo."

don't forget the only anti crit item in the game has health in it. I cant wait for squishies to complain that their supports and solos are dead all the time... and then they die because there is absolutely no dive to get to the back line and deal with the damage. We could be heading to a stall till late game have one maybe two team fights then end meta. Kinda like the old epsilon, panthera gaming, where the eu meta was no fights until 20 min then dance around the fg hope to get a pick and take fg then end game. get ready.
I feel like Hi Rez went in a really roundabout way of dissolving the tank meta we saw before this season. The problem people had with tanks was that they could deal tons of damage by building practically no damage items and not taking any damage late game when they dive the back line. Instead of nerfing base damage on those characters they just made protections a joke so that tanks now get punished. This isn’t the correct approach because now supports as well as anybody who builds any protection item (like assassins building late game mantle) are also punished for wanting survivability
Edit: In a perfect world, late game the solo laner harasses the back line in order to create space for the jungler to dive safely and burst down the carry roles as well as the support staying back and peeling for and protecting the carry roles with their aura items and cc (this is a simplification and implies a standard team comp i.e. 1 of each class). However Hi Rez wants every role to do a lot damage. This is why tanks have high base damage, and also why damage dealing roles are given more tools to deal more damage to all roles. It’s a bad system that leads to every role feeling too squishy and useless late game unless you are a mage or hunter

Support main here, when I play even now it feels like I'm made of paper. When this update hit its going to feel like paper soaked in gasoline. Greedy support doesn't even begin to cover what's coming. Guardians building beads, aegis and no auras plus %pen to hopefully make there high base damage mater in some way.

@@Jormyyy smite has this weird obsession of making changes just for the sake of making changes then when it breaks something instead of just nerfing the change or reverting it they change a bunch of other stuff to the point that the god barely resembles itself anymore.
Smite likes to nerf certain gods and buff items meant to counter said god at the same time. They should do 1 or the other then see if they need more changes.
Sobek was annoying as hell from an adc perspective he could basically solo an adc if he had thorns Nemian
On top of this they first nerf Nemean Lion, then remove the thorns effect entirely. This is what I don’t understand at all. When I saw a 1 black stack item, I literally laughed out loud. I’ve heard it is going to 2 block stacks, which imo is still a joke on all but maybe 2 Gods. Every MOBA has a thorns effect item and it creates a healthy Meta. I couldn’t help noticing their huge smiles when they announced they were destroying Nemean Lion, almost as if they are all carry mains.

Nemean lion did reflect but not enough to be useful long term and thorns was temporary so its literally a matter of just don't left click for a few seconds. Not to mention the whole reason people built nemean was so solo labers could at least have a chance fighting the carry's so nerfing nemean to the ground like that was dumb. The new passive is good it just needs more stacks on it. As for the pen changes I personally dont mind. What got me confused was them buffing pen but then nerf most defense items. Like shouldnt the defense be buffed slightly or just left alone. Most people wouldnt mind the pen changes if they didnt destroy defense too.
2 blocks is nothing when they have over 2 attack speed, and even then it's still shit. Thorns should've been buffed not fucking nerfed into the ground.
Reflect is unhealthy for the game as it punishes you for being good and hitting your abilitys. The new nemean is very obviously a counter to assasins and not hunters. It counters hydras and will be picked up by mid laners and adcs. It is a very strong item as it hard counters certain chars like loki arachne or mercury. Imo thorns should be removed too as it is just stupid i once oneshot myself as merc on a thorns nemean hercules that is simply bad gamedesign. They should just buff some defense items like thebes or urchin and add a new mitigation based item like onis or just buff onis. Tanks should never be able to 1v1 a carry that is not their job. They are there to soak up dmg and be a shield for their own carrys (hence the name support).
I had taken a long break from smite and the first thing I noticed was how wild soul reaver was as an item. Literally everything you need to kill a tank in one item and they said they wanted to get rid of the one stop shop for tank killing in ob shard. Now they do same thing to heart seeker. Hunter's had to build two items to get that effect back in my day.

Solo lane is basically a second mage lane now. I mean, why not? You don't get punished late game, a lot of people don't know the way to play against mages, and even if they know what to do a good number of warriors just simply have bad matchups against mage solos.

I think the meta is going to be a 5v5 burst-damage meta, which leads to the absence of Hunter, Warriors AND Guardians. Instead of 3 Hunter/2 Guardian, it'll be 3 Mage/2 Assassin at this rate.

For solo lane I feel that you are forced to go atleast two to three damage items in order to be useful in late game teamfights now, because since most hunters, and mages usually go full pen, you have to essentially burst them before they insta-nuke you in solo and its so frustrating.
Yeah, and now with the stupid amount of 10% pen, the junglers can take you out with their burst too. There's 0 reason to play a full tank anymore, and that just sucks
Or simply use warriors/guardians with cc, also, pen doesnt meant anything when you have block stacks.

I’ve always thought the pen changes are relics from the days when s5 Solo’s werd coming out 2-5 levels ahead, but like, when you have tanks actively picking up beads in a lot of games, you should recognize something is wrong.

In joust the tank is usually a warrior or a guardian with a couple damage-only items. Very rarely do you see a full tank.
Solo lane is definitely unfun, cthulu seems to ignore all these changes though, and he hits harder than a lot of mages late game.
After a while Cthulhu will be Artio'd or Yemoja'd. He's just the new guy now. Nerf will come (I hope).
I hate the fact that Soul reaver and Heartseeker now have percent pen AND health percentage pen... Like as a tank you focus on one or the other more depending on what the enemy is building but they build those items and they shred anything you build...
They need to add a breastplate similar to spectral armor. Though instead of reducing crit damage by 50%, it negates 50% of physical and magical penetration. Then I feel like tanks have a fair chance.
Let's not forget that Tanks had a way of fighting back against high damage characters, it was called Thorns and Nemean. A way of telling ADCs and Mages "stop hitting for one sec".
But apparently "not hitting" was too hard so Thorns got nerfed into the ground, Nemean lost it's damage reflection, and Crit Meta is the strongest it's ever been, so you literally die FASTER since hitting crits it's easier now.
But yeah, Fuck tanks, am I right?
Make matters worse, they removed max tier 2 items when they could've explored more possibilities.
Glad Shield was only broken on a few gods like King Arthur, while merely an extra source of sustain for some warriors. Berserkers by contrast almost never made it to late game.
This was the point, an item very easy to get in early game that fell off hard by late game. Didn't take much gold, and couldn't be upgraded-had to be sold for even better items. Why couldn't hi-rez just make more variations for these for other lanes?
I think it's because they were usually either really good and always bought or pretty meh and never bought. Ichaival for hunters and Dynasty Plate Helm for mages were both mid tier items that were like that

I haven't seen so many damage solo laners for years...I had three games in a row recently with no warrior OR support on the opposite team, but 3 mages and 2 physicals. It worked very well, even in the later stages, as the did so much damage in all stages of the game.
And i thought i was going insane, tanks have felt weak this season, once i saw the Physical % Pen being brought in, i felt like playing tank/support just wasn't worth it, having to switch to a squishy healer support (in a season where anti heal has been mental) feels like the only option to me, yet it also feels ineffective due to said antiheal
Yeah... It was fun to be able to have damage in games at season start, but im hoping next season gives hunters and mages less ability to insta kill tanks

This tank hate reminds me of the rampant anti-tank mentality that Blizzard had for Overwatch a few years ago. They were either releasing new characters, or revamping old characters' kits to make it seem like they were made to counter tanks exclusively, which made the game a living hell for tank mains like myself.

I've been trying to get supports with extra utility besides front lining as a result- sylvanus with the heal, geb with the shield... this is really more of a backline peely support meta. As for solo, well... we might be returning to the season 1 days of Bakasura solo, sad to say. Most carries seem to be way more scared of a fed assassin than a warrior right now, and who feeds himself faster than a Baka with golden blade?

I would be more okay with the percent pen hitting tanks the way it does if % health damage wasn't so good. You can't opt into more HP and less prots. There is no winning.

Yeah I play Hybrid Athena as support and rely on my CC to support since CC is the only effective thing at this point that can change the turn of battle. People always freak out (mainly a very conservative or unflexible jungler or mid) when I got damage on Athena. My build goes like this
1. Warrior's blessing
2. Shoes of focus
3. Doom Orb
4. Mantle of Discord
5. Polynomicron
6. Rod of Tahuti
I like to have a presence with my carry outside of just giving them some mediocre buffs from item passives. Since Tanks tend to just get ignored and it becomes a game of who can kill the carry first. when I go hybrid with Athena I don't get the problem as I am a threat the enemy team has to take into account as well, plus the ability to save my carry from a jungle rotation with Athena's taunt is priceless, especially when it leads to shutting down their jungle or punishing them to retreat and stay off the field longer.
The only time I ever lose with my Athena build is if the enemy mid and Jungle rotate into Duo at the same time, the only carry's that have been abled to beat me without the aid form jungle or mid ganking is Skadi and Muzen Kab. Skadi because they overbuffed every pet's damage and Muzen Kab due to being the living embodiment of CC and AA spam.
Full tank just doesn't feel effective anymore and more like a dead weight in a fight, as im not helping to kill enemies late game and am just a mobile punching bag towards the end if im going full defense.
The problem with Warriors and tanks in actuality is sustain. The sustain game is just way to busted. Glad shield is pretty much a must have for any solo lane or warrior in general, which won't be an issue soon, but then you get the broken built in sustains combined with items that support sustain abilities. Regrowth shield as an example on Hercules.
But the biggest offender of built in sustain on a Warrior would have to be Chaac. His passive is just way to unfair on top of having an aura that heals himself and slows. Who in their right mind thought that being abled to get 5-6 basics with no timer to limit the stacks and use an ability with no cost to mana AND making its cooldown lower by 2 seconds, must have been the same lad who thought Yemoja being abled to heal with auto attacks was a good idea. Arthur is abusive yes, but he's like He Bo and Bellona, thats all he really rely's on and your dumb if you get into a boxing match unprepared for him. Plus glad shield will see him being a bit less sustain abusive early (all warriors except built ins will be less sustain abusive) Im expecting a Achilles meta again in solo after this upcoming update. I'd like to see more diversity in Solo, but the problem is Solo doesn't get much help from Jungle when they need it. Jungler's don't even help get Tiki anymore. In the rare chance I can jungle I always help solo get Tiki unless they are just dominating their lane, beyons that I tend to leave Duo to fight on their own unless I see the enemy jungle over in duo or heading that way, they need an opportunity to push, or just need help in general. Solo comes down to stalemates way to much if both solo's are skilled, then it comes down to jungle. Which most jungles don't help or poorly help and act like rotating is a chore compared to them feeding off of mid and camps.
I'm mostly a solo lane user and this is just purely stupid. The game shouldn't be about how much numbers you get from using one ability. It should also be about how many abilities you can take before you fall.

I barely build tank items anymore, unless situation absolutely demands it, I'm having much more fun and success with more offensive builds, since even with very high armor / magic resistance and HP I feel like I'm naked or wearing a paper bag at best, on top of that you can't outbox anyone, it's simply not fun.

I can definitely hop on the dislike train for this mid season change. I think there's quite a lot of good stuff but I feel like they could have done something to help out Warriors and Guardians counter it as well. I find it quite enjoyable to play Solo lane, farm, and then know that I can pretty much set up a tent and camp for a week inside of the enemy Pheonix without a worry.
However there is a chance that this mid season change could be very subversive in comparison to what we expect. Who knows!

I am not really surprised honestly. Hirez has always had a questionable balance team, not sure why all of sudden they said "Fuck Tanks". Myswell just build full magical and join the rest of your team trying to nuke others.
Probably not going to play until this is fixed in some way considering I enjoy tanks.

The problem for tanks is actually worse for tanks than just squishies getting better pen. Tanks also used to have better items for fighting squishies, like old void stone/shield with flat pen. Hirez has consistently been removing flat pen options from tanks meaning that, not only do we get killed easier, but we cant fight back as well either.

They completely just destroyed the ideas of tanks as a whole. They changed glad and berserker which is what gave tanks a chance early to mid game and now they buffed pen. Essentially tanks are not gonna be able to do anything and play the role their supposed to because anytime they do their just gonna die. And that really angers me as someone who mains tanks.

Tank items need better passives. The auras are mostly just prots that won’t help against pen anyway. Like breastplate of valor doesn’t even have a passive and is just a CDR Stat stick at this point
And tbh spectral is better than breastplate atm because crit is so prevalent, the same stats as breastplate except instead of CD you get the crit reduction passive
As a tank/ solo/ support main, I will definitely be disappointed if this becomes the "anti-tank" meta. It happened to Paladins where frontlines are literally nuked in seconds by damage dealing characters (ie: Skye) for no reason. It feels very catered to the casual "haha insta lock dps" types of players, and I really hope that's not where Smite is heading. However, I am a fan of a meta where it isn't frowned upon for a tank character to get power items.
I rather a tank meta because it actually takes more skill to juggle resources and abilities but one shotting everything is cheap and an easy way to play a game.
The problem I think this is trying to solve without talking about it is the fact that a baccus can jump on any squishy, pop his kit and that squishy is dead. Full tank build doesn't matter. They need to nerf the damage of guardians, they should be for control, and not for back line deletion, and then get away scott free.

I have the same problem, but with Soul Eater... I had a Mulan vs Sobek match yesterday (me being Sobek) and Mulan went SE... buildkng tanky felt simply useless, it didnt have any impact on the lanibg phase, while before, it actually did. Only after my 2nd tank item did it start feeling like I'm somewhat tanky, but as I said, only SOMEWHAT. I was seriously just considering buildkng damage, since Mulan was shredding me anyway... Why does a sustain item, that can easily be built on warriors, have to have 10% pen added to it? Why cant it just be a sustain item?
I wouldnt mind health or protections being on almost every item barring crit items and high damage items.
titan's probably been trying to get an aphro meta, from all the unwanted aphro buffs, to the anti-tank item buffs...
the only way to play a tank will be to have an aphro ult you in the middle of a team fight

They will just get any of the % damage items and thats your hp gone.
I think a key point in why the changes are bad for the game is that stacking defense inherently gives diminishing returns (due to the formula for calculating defense), and having so much percentage pen accessible to carries only further increases the DR from defense.
This forces us to either:
A.) Attempt to stack more protections to make our post-ignored defense values higher
or
B.) Build more damage items in order to box effectively, detracting from our role as a front liner due to the trade off
On the other hand, stacking damage and penetration intrinsically has no penalty because damage scaling is either linear or increasingly multiplicative.
80% scaling on an ability will see a linear increase to its damage per point of attack power, and any amount of penetration will further increase the damage dealt.
Furthermore, TitanRez have proven they WANT tanks to be easier to kill and squishies to be harder to kill with the latest bonus balance (see heartseeker and soul reaver annotations), and I hate to say it, but Smite is slowly turning into the snowbally hyper carry style seen in League of Legends, which is arguably worse for this game since body blocking and zoning have a bigger role in team fights here.
I can only hope they realize the error of their ways sooner than later.
I'm hoping we will see a similar overhaul for tank items beginning of season 8. To round everything out. Because most tank items are just trash right now. Even the pros thing so, fineOk said it in one of his videos recently
I don't think this will be as bad as you say. Frontliners will still be frontliners it will jusy change which ones are best. Mostly I think this will kill dive comps which we've been seeing so much of, and force it back to true team fights. Your solo laner and support will need their carries' damage when they engage, on bith teams. I mean I'm a solo/sup main myself so I don't want to see tanks go the way of the dodo but I really do think this is targeting tanky dive comps and lazy teamfight strategies more than just tanks in general.

With how they changed items so that obsidian shard and titans aren't required they have made percent mitigations a must in tank builds. If you want to be a tank similar to before this season then you have to build oni hunters and spirit robe and even then it doesn't do enough. It is stemming the bleeding but not stopping it

RIP warriors in solo. Part of the problem is titan forge doing everything they can to make sure every game gets to late game, so all these items that shred tanks will always be bought before the game ends. There's no "play early game comp and win before the enemy late game comp comes online." Its too easy to come back into the game with the current meta.
I think it's obviously an attempt to fix the "either my team stomps or I get stomped" games that have been plaguing Smite for a while.

I got a question you argue that tanks should not lose to assassin and mages but why should 1 king arthur for example whose fed because of solo lane farm be able to 1v2 at 10 mins against an assassin and mage when you get to teamfights and now consider being on the losing end you lose your assassin and mage which more than likely are the Anti heal on the team in this shit healer meta then you settle on losing an objective or worse you lose the teamfight and the objective right after. If you want to make the game more balanced items like glad shield and berserkers shield that needed to changed that's statistics going by most games on many different levels of play including casual play and not only ranked. No matter how much you nerf solo lane they are still impactful and right now it feels like they are too impactful i can have a shitty mid, adc or jungler and win but when i got a shitty solo it's game over. And one last them percentage pen ends up helping your squishies survive too but the mentality that solo lane should be the one carrying the game is wrong that's the job of the damage dealers.
As a support main can confirm being a tank is slowly becoming pointless. I play alot of Athena .Shes super fun and pretty good at helping your team lock people down or peal for your squishes. but now every time i try to get my combo out i lose half my hp at least and have to back/get a healing iteam. Honestly at this point if i went damage Athena and just tried nuking people with my ult i could get more work done.

I think a mix of health and prot items will be meta for tanks. Max health builds have max health damage counters and now max prot builds have pen counters. Might be more interesting in item pools for tanks.
Hertseeker and soul reaver both counter health and pen
Oni hunter garb and spirit robe give straight up mitigation that's the only tank option I see left.

without oni hunters and say on sylvanus going more traditional with lotus crown, i am getting shredded, having the % mitigation with the health/damage hybrids in E-staff and gem of iso, coupling that with pridwen procs i've found some good success, even managing to box a few mages pretty well because you can blink-ult initiate fights and get your pridwen procs, then use shell as team initiate after you, then it is just a matter of 'can I hit my CC abilities better than they can juke'

It haddly feels possible to fight off assassin ganks in solo right now, since most 1st slot assassin items come with pen right now.
I just play baron as solo so I deal damage, but magical I feel will be way more relevant now with the glad/berk changes.

I agree. They're basically making tanky builds less and less effective, and at some point that would result in people just building damage instead. I feel that we are already almost at that point tbh.
I agree titan seem to be hating on tanks (warriors and guardians) why dont they add new items exclusive to only those to types of gods, just like only assassin can build katana items why dont we have a new item branch that only guardians can buy, and a new branch of items only warriors can buy, this way it's easier (in theory) to balance e each class better and make them more relevant in their respective roles, I've been wondering this for a while and mentioned it a few times on twitter but usually get stupid responses and no logical reason or example of why it wouldnt work, just that it's a stupid idea, too many classes have too much access to too many items and it throws balance off completely

Also it seems like with the ease of access to pen items coming up your probably be better off building hp over def (I know qins and heartseeker will hurt but it negates a lot of the %pen items so that's something else to think about)

Bring hp back to tank items and take more power away from tank items the reason that the tank and bruiser metas are so common it because you can't get enough hp to feel truly tanky and have good defense with it with all the tank shred available they need to place tanks solidly in that role of burst resistant damage sponge
That won't help at all.
There is a hp cap at 5500 and even if you have more hp it won't matter because anti tank items deal % damage.
So 3k hp or 4k hp won't help against them at all.
The problem is all of these new items scale off enemy defenses and hp. The higher the values, the harder they hit you
Not particularly about the topic, but pertaining to something mentioned about solo laners...how or what r ur views on mages in the solo lane at higher lvls (or any really) of play. I like to play (and i play them really well, plat+ with diamond borders) hades or chang'e in solo? I know they r viable, i win my lane with them often and well, but moreso, how does my team view that or greatly effected by it even if im winning my lane? Cuz im not going to be a frontliner in most cases, and in rare cases i have seen solo laners just give up their lane to me to rotate (to a lane they can win or help win), therefore forcing me out of my winning lane. I guess i just want to know if u hate seeing mages picked in the solo lane? I also dont know how often u have to deal with it being a solo main, but anyone is welvome to reply of course.
P.s. after rereading my post i added this to clerify that i didnt mean to sound like i am inconvenienced by being forced to rotate, i do know how and when. When i say "forced" i suppose i meant when they GIVE UP their lane to me...as in, theyre not coming back, and they just perm bully the mid and jungle. So its more than just a "usual" rotation for me...

I've been saying this for the longest, people who main backline roles constantly complain about solo laners causing them to be nerfed for no reason at all and dont realize the solo laners was either ahead in levels, or they did not build antilheal/%Pen/%Health items yet, but those items over perform. Damage solo meta will completely eliminate a class from smite as warriors are not as good as assassins or mages with damage builds and they can't peel so they can't go support either I really can't stand how prevalent percent pen is in this game and how they nerfed hybrid items and warriors so much, also why the hell did they think it was ok to allow titans and ob shard to overcap? All this is, is an attempt by hi rez to make a damage meta therefore a faster paced game which in their mind makes spl more interesting to casual viewers and gets more people to watch I'm almost certain that is their agenda.

All I'm hoping for is some general tank item overhaul, I don't mind the new item changes since they open up alot of build paths but it's not exactly ideal for tanks to get blown up. Also since sustain is gone from most warriors now it'll probably end up with the Jungler being given too many targets throughout the entire game allow them more farm and nullifying the solo role which sucks.
Also this is no hate against any role I just want the game to not have an all damage meta where tanks are useless and squishes are running around all willy nilly

In my opinion it needs to be a mix of damage and sustain in the meta if too much damage theres like 7 second team fights and press a button and wipe out all, too much sustain and its a boring game of cc until they die there needs to be a mix or else its just boring as hell and not fun to play
I hate these changes. In ranked people go scylla and other CC and dead mages like anubis and i die. No ammount of defense changes that.

I think we are going into a full damage or very heavy damage solo meta. Similar to the season 1 solo meta which was basically all items with health and power or health and attack speed. The solo has to be able to KILL the ADC or Mid isolated 1 on 1 or they get poked out of fights too fast and they are going to need to wager/leverage their health more than ever

As a support main I can say without a doubt, I'm going exclusively Warrior support/Asassin support. I'm not looking forward to getting shredded by Baron or Nox support. Now that Rat has that broken acorn than I'm even more worried that Rat now has not only great early game, but melting guardians late as support with another assassin coming for you. Well, Hercules support, here I come.
