High-End Shoe Care: The difference between Shoe Waxes and Creams (Paul Brunngard)

As Mr. Anders Sundstrom (Swedish Shoeshining Champion) explains, waxes and creams serve different functions. One consideration is whether the product "re-pigments". That is -- whether it has colour content that adds to the shoe. The Artistic Cream, for example, is meant to rejuvenate colour to worn shoes.
Another consideration is the product's behavioral properties. The reviving cream is an all-rounder product, which is used to clean and replenish the natural oils of smooth leather. On the other hand, the spitshine is more specialist in that it dries quicker and allows for successive layers of gloss to be built upon each other.
