  • You had the computer, the TV and Tape deck - something was missing. Yes the ability to print and the Alphacom32 provided a similar solution to the ZX Printer - albeit using different paper (not the metallic paper Sinclair opted for).
Tune in for a look at how this worked (well its a printer, so it is fairly simple).
The video was recorded on a GoPro Hero 10, which explains the dip in quality from the normal FujiFilm sensor - I probably won't use this again unless it's for a quick video where I don't have time for a full setup.

I'm surprised how many of these still exist (I actually have 3!) I'd like an original Sinclair one though - just for the burning smell when you print!

Does it really need 24V AC? Or does it work with DC as well? I guess it has a full bridge rectifier.

Not sure to be honest, it has as full bridge rectifier so I’d assume the dc would only pass on one side? However, I’m not that great at electronics so thought I’d play safe.

Eurgh. Tell me about it re power supplies and incompatibilities.
A couple of years back I plugged my Speccy power supply into a Z64, which is a third-party Nintendo 64 backup/development unit (5v centre positive). Ruined. These things sell for anywhere from £200 to £800 in working condition.
    I was a little annoyed...
Yes I wanted an Alphacom... I used a ZX printer for my GCSE Geography project - photocopied the silver bog roll... this would have been so much better!

I never understood why so many vendors make things that were so easy to break with the wrong PSU. I guess they were built for a cost in mind and protection was way down the list.

@@stevesretroloft Yup. Literally one 30p transient suppression diode, plus another diode reverse-polarised across the power input would completely protect the unit. But no...
