- Ruby Walsh won the Grand National for a second time, giving favourite Hedgehunter a masterful ride to make amends for a final-fence fall 12 months earlier.
Walsh even had time for the luxury of a look round at The Elbow before sauntering home clear of Royal Auclair, Simply Gifted and It Takes Time, with Carrie Ford a gallant fifth on Forest Gunner.

Heroic ride by Carrie Ford on Forest Gunner - did pretty much everything right til running out of gas on that long unforgiving run-in...
Class race, McCoy was travelling powerfully until the loose horses took him out
One off the easiest national winners u will ever see
I was 9, and my dad decided to put a small bet on for me and my twin brother. He let us choose our horse, and I chose hedgehunter. I still remember it!
I remember watching this one when I was 6, Picked it because of its name and still called it ‘Hedgehog Hunter’ Not bet the winner since!
How weird is that mate I was the same age and my dad let me put a bet on it as well, picked it for its name, brother picked Forrest gunner, won 8 quid that day, never bothered since
@@kieranmilne7808 Reminiscing myself watching this, same age, same winnings never bothered since 😂 I'll never forget that Horse's name.
I was 3 years older, but this happened to me too 😂@@kieranmilne7808
How can anybody not love the Grand National?!
“Any one of 10 can win” what race was the commentator looking at 😂 race was over at the canal turn.
Never know when one finishes like a train and one dies out, that's the beauty of the national
Shit commentator that’s why
The race was over at about 7:00 when Hedgehunter got to the lead. For another 2 minutes, it was all Hedgehunter!!
What I love BEST about these steeple chases is the jockeys. How some of them, if the horse seems tired, they stop him, if he can never win, pulls him up, but most of all is the atmosphere after the race, losers congratulating , the winner, no hard feeling, just the atmosphere of professionals and and they joy of the steeple chase and the great horses themselves!!!!
What a horse nearly won 3 nationals
Hedgehuntter nearly won 3. Fell at the final hedge, and got beat by a single length. .
2005: The year of Afleet Alex here in America, andd Hedgehunter and Ruby in England. Hedgehunter knocked over just as many hedges as the other horses, I love how the jockeys always point them to the lowest point of the hedge. What amazed me about Hedgehunter was his stamina and endurance, and his acceleration, turn of foot down the home stretch. He ran just as far, jumped the same amount of hedges, but had so much speed in reserve!! The close up of him running down the home stretch is amazing. He won by a huge margin and he didn't look tired. Super Horse!!!!
@makadeni123 I'll have to look carefulli at 2004. Amberleigh won. Here is a summy of his Grand Nationals:
2005 Won on Ruby Walsh by 15 lengths.
2006 Cam in 2nd to Numbersixvalved by 3 lenghts. Few horses have been so close in 3 consecuttive races since Red Rum.
2007 Carried top weight. Finished 9th.
2--8 Carried top weight. Finish ed 13th of 15 horses who finish ed.
@makadeni123 I watched 2004 again, and watched him fall. Had been in fromt most of the race, with two other horses. He missed the jump, and fell, and did look almost dead, not moving. Ruby Walsh standing over him. is a tribute to a jockey who loves his horse. Had h e not fallen, he might have been won of th e few horses who have won 2 consecutive Nationals!!!!
