You seem to accommodate a very decent character that is evident in the way you discuss and analyze topics. Thank you for displaying such character in your videos and keep the content coming. Good job.
I'm a senior physician practising in Australia and have been on medical student selection panels (fot long interview format and MMIs for many years. I can categorically state that these scenarios and the interview tips you present are the best, most comprehensive and well thought out instructional videos for aspiring medical school applicants I have seen. Kudos.
@@aliabdaal Seriously, I think Molly and Charlotte (and all the others) are first-rate discussants of some incredibly difficult ethical issues. And the Geordie chap's (?Steve) portrayal of the body-language challenged candidate (I have seen someone almost that bad about 10 years ago) was a hoot. Thanks & Be well.

Why Medicine?
I grew up in an environment where Medicine was not as powerful as Faith. Faith could overcome any disease because you were relying on an all-powerful God to heal you. However, the downside to this experience is that the influences I had, who had faith in faith, ended up dying of a serious illness. It was almost as if doctors were somehow evil people lying to their patients because it contradicted their beliefs. When I got the opportunity to go to college and learn more about the world my curiosity increased and my mind became more open. Whereas before, my mind was closed to believing only in the religion I was raised with. As I gained more interest in education, specifically science and history, I became like a kid in a candy store learning about the discoveries of scientists and historians, and their profound implications on what it means to be human. It is my curiosity that makes me want to study medicine, because my mind is more open to the world, it is thus more open to people and their experiences. I have taken time to read about the history of Medicine on my own, and I want to be apart of it, and see the potential breakthroughs in the field.
Can you give me some tips as why nursing??

Interviewer: Why Medicine
Me: What else is there to do.
How else is someone gonna earn money
I am applying to nursing school but I wish I can be a medical doctor. Health care field is so awesome.
bless u
I relate to Kenny so much. I'm in my last year of igcse, we are literally about to write our final exams in like 2 months and here I am all of a sudden realising how much I would actually hate engineering😭
Well I am already a GP and I have an interview to join a residency program , so if I was asked why I chose this major , can I just say something personal??.. As if I had a family member who had a terminal illness and I’ve seen how the doctor handled that and helped with the treatment course till this member got healed and I wanted to do the same for others as well???
Ima bout to attend interview in a while🤔
I hope to be a good doctor .
What made you want to become a doctor and not a nurse or other healthcare professions?
Nurses need to have good communication skills, be competent, requirement of life long learning, patient oriented, specialist nurses or NPs can treat and diagnose patients, too. These were pretty much what was said in the vid apart from the last bit...
Hi there, what if you've explained this in your personal statement. I feel like I would be repeating my personal statement if and when asked this question.
Would it be applicable to talk about my sisters acne journey and how it took years to diagnose it as PCOS?
when answering this question, is it a good idea to summarise at the end what you have said in one sentence or will it be repetitive? i was thinking it might be a good idea, as i have several little things which lead me to decide this is my aspired career choice and i explain them in detail in my answer...
Ali please give me some useful advice
Because my English is not that strong and I have an interview next week
This was really helpful. Thanks😊
How would you approach and answer the question : why did you want to become a doctor and not a nurse?
Not quite sure but maybe start with nursing is a respectable field and say that as a doctor you can go into medical research. Apart from that I feel like everything I say seems undermining nurses 😬
Thought I was watching at x1.5 speed, but I guess Ali just talks really fast lol
Eyebags everywhere!
Thank you for your sharing. I just happened to encounter a difficult question as “Why medicine instead of the nursery”. I did some preliminary research on the difference between medicine and nursery but was unable to find an appropriate answer. Most of the answers tends to be very lopsided, as they assert on things like” Nurse has less opportunity to apply scientific knowledge”, or “Nurse has less responsibility”, which I perceive them as a discrimination (This term is a bit exaggerated, but the bias in their answers is obvious) towards nursery, as if nursery is inferior to medicine. I do not wish to answer in such a seemingly disrespectful manner because I am concerned that there may be nursery staffs among the panel of interviewers. Thus, would like to offer me some advice on how to answer this question appropriately so that both parties are satisfied? And how should I really differentiate these two realms in an objective way? Would greatly be appreciated if you could help me answer that question.
Chen Jiashu RN and physicians are way similar
Say that you can further develop the field of medicine when you have the knowledge and scope of practice as a physician- that you think you can have a greater impact on the field
Because you wanna do surgery? Simplest answer I can think of?
I know this comment is pretty old but I would say that the main thing is that doctors have the final say in patient treatment and care.
I think as for me i will answer it as: coz when you are a doc you have a responsibility to make sure that the patient's physic is improved and i have the ability to do it and also the confidence and thats what gives me satisfaction and when we turn towards nursing side you need emotional attachment with the patient in a form that the patient feels loved, needed, and taken care of
You know basically when you are a doc you show your abilities empathy affection skill when they surrender and trust to you enough but when you are a nurse you have to prove the same emotions by acting by showing them
And i have a bit of both yet the satisfaction and responsiblilty and a complete trust is what inspires me the
most
And also just like many i love operating and performing and make a "patient" back to a normal "healthy person "
I want to cry
Why do you want to pursue medicine?
Me: I want to save lives and improve peoples lives, and form a positive connection with the patients I interact with
British MD: Too cliche, add some spice to it! Have you been sick before?
Me: No...
British MD: Family member severely sick?
Me: No.. :/
British MD: Well I would consider other professions...
Hi , Any advice for me...? I'm a year 11 student and i'm at a critical point in my life where I need to pick my a level choices. I have decided to do - Bio Chem and History in hope of applying for medicine ( not Oxbridge/unis that require maths) What advice would you give about not taking maths as I really don't enjoy it ?
I have done my research on university websites and many dont require maths at A level however would you say this could be a disadvantage when I'm applying? Kind regards, Zara Chowdhry
How could u memorise all the content in medicine courses?? in what time did you study and what's your study style and technique? btw i love ur videos and you inspired me so much to study in medicine.Im 17 btw 😍

If it was about what I loved, it would be racing, I just like racing. But in the real world, you have to do something "useful", hence medicine.
Can they just stop drinking whatever they are drinking for a second? Great video and helpful tips, but those two with drinking makes it a bit annoying.
Would it be a big mistake to mention the fact that the majority of relatives and family members are in the medical field and that’s what inspired me to follow this path? It’s partly true for me but I was thinking it might be cliché and an unconvincing reason.
Hi! So I was wondering, how long should you go on for each question in the medical interview? I don't really want to sound talkative, but I also want to add anecdotes and relate them to my passion. Hope you can answer my question soon!
Thanks for the answer! Your videos are great :D
Ali Abdaal Hi Ali, do you think that the back-and-forth style that you encourage works just as well in an MMIs or do I need a more thorough answer?
Do you have any advice on how graduate students are expected to answer questions differently?
Ali Abdaal thank you for your help!!
Question:Can you please tell me again the name of the med school that your friend on graduate entry video said has most grad entries? Couldn’t make it out. Did she say worick?

I just want to ask people that are in medical school is that, Yeah It seems cool to help people, to be able to diagnose what illness they have and then help them with it. But have they ever considered the money and parental pride aspect of the job.
Interview in a few hours.
Yuh
I guess “because my mom wants me to” might not be a good answer then?
Ali what is your nationality?
Ali Abdaal ibthink he
I don't even know what 2+2 is :(
how did kenny not get the grades for engineering but he did get the grades for medicine???
ZENPAI haha, I can see why that sounds confusing.
Basically, at my sixth from if you wanted to do physics as an A level (which was important for engineering), you had to at least get an A in it at GCSE, but I got a B so they told me I would not be allowed to do it as an a level, so I chose economics instead which was quite random looking back haha
I was able to do biology and chemistry (and maths) at A level because I met the sixth forms requirements to do those - which are more important for medicine.
Tbh, it’s probably the best “no” I’ve ever gotten because meant I would end up studying medicine which I’m really enjoying
Oh, I get you, I'm hoping to apply for medicine though I live in Scotland so I was not sure if it was to do with the difference in school systems, anyway thanks for clearing it up!
What GCSE grades did you get
