  • New study has once again shown that female surgeons have lower surgical complication rates and better outcomes than their male surgeon counterparts. After accounting for patient, procedure, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and hospital characteristics, the findings of this cohort study suggest that patients treated by female surgeons have lower rates of adverse postoperative outcomes including death at 90 days and 1 year after surgery compared with those treated by male surgeons. #femalesurgeon #womeninmedicine #surgeonlife

This is not the first study defined benefits in female surgeons. What do you think helps explain these findings? Did male versus female influence your choice of surgeon? Thanks for taking the time 🙏

The profession has gone to hell. We have moved from license to kill model to license to murder. New docs are poor as a whole. Female surgical (and none surgical) residents frequently quite in middle of residency. Not infrequently they never even enter practice, or if they do within a short time they retire.@@bonniedavis4601

I had a female ob/gyn for two of my c sections. I had a very traumatic birth before meeting her. One of the first things she addressed was my fear, and created a birth plan for me. She's a very empathetic woman, so I knew I could relax with her. I truly felt she had my back!

Had to look-up specifics of Simpson’s paradox. Thanks for sharing 🙏 Like the following insight credited to Mathematician Jordan Ellenberg, “the Simpson's paradox is misnamed as "there's no contradiction involved, just two different ways to think about the same data" and suggests that its lesson "isn't really to tell us which viewpoint to take but to insist that we keep both the parts and the whole in mind at once”. Thanks for taking the time 🙏

I don't know if this is factually true or not but women are usually more prone to be safe and less adventurous right? wouldn't that apply the same way in medicine meaning that men are more prone to do riskier surgeries than women? idk maybe im wrong

No offense I per male surgeons over a female any day! I am female myself I have only had one surgery in my life by a woman and she messed up my shoulder even more. I feel every female doctor I have ever seen surgical or non-surgical I have had to fire because I don't like their rudeness, no compassion, and less likely to believe what I say about my own body! Three months after an ortho surgeon (female) did my surgery I told her something was wrong! I felt that my shoulder was torn again. She refused a CT or MRI. I told her I knew something was wrong because I was unable to hold my phone that how I knew. It took me two years to find another surgeon he was great and he did an MRI and he told me all four of my tendons were torn on my rotator cuff. Now I having my second Total shoulder Arthroplasty Reversal. Sorry docs are off the table for me After having 65 surgeries no one will ever be able to convince me to see a female unless they change their attitudes. I am sure there are nice female doctors out there but I have never found one and I have been in out of the hospitals since birth.
