Love this! I have a family member who keeps her home so pristine it looks staged. It makes her happy (I think) but to me it looks unwelcoming and almost dead inside. I like to walk into my home and know that people actually live there. I’ve significantly downsized post-kids, getting rid of 90% of my possessions and so no matter how much stuff I have laying around, it looks tidier than ever!
Yes…THAT kind of decluttering is of value. And when less people are living here, I plan to do the same! Daily decluttering (formerly known as “tidying up”) serves me no purpose at this point when in two seconds flat, someone can walk in a room and clutter it up again! LOL. Since I have the TIDY bug in me, I may have my home like yours…in a few years! 😉✨💕
I understand. Last summer, I got so involved in decluttering, removing unwanted or unused items, that it almost consumed my days. It was a productive habit, but when all of a sudden it was time to go back to work, and I clocked more decluttering hours than fun or rest hours…well let’s just say it was a frustrating epiphany.
I can relate with this on a couple levels! Sounds like we were raised with similar mom’s. I love to walk into a home that feels lived in. It just feels like a deep breath of fresh air. I can tell you planned this video out well and stayed on topic. Which keeps our attention. Well done my friend.
Thank you Tracie! I enjoy challenging myself to try new things...so this one took more effort, but I learned a lot for sure! It's rather freeing to be able to run my home the way I want...without all the high, hard to meet expectations. No disrespect to mothers of course...she taught me well. But it's time to do it my way! 💕
@@beautifullifesageg.3951 you deserve to do it your way and time way is doable, reasonable and I love that you shared it with us. I can tell you put a lot of planning and effort into this video.
Yes! Life is to be lived not controlled every second. I appreciate a clean house, but I also appreciate a home that looks like the people living there are happy. Excellent editing! WOW!!🤩
Thanks Jackie! I enjoyed playing around with editing this time. Although I am a creative too, painting, drawing, mixed media and such, I'm finding lots of creative joy in the editing process. It's a kind of visual storytelling that I'm enjoying! Canva Pro is very helpful!
This was a nice change of advice Jen. I do get stressed with the declutter but I think for me it comes from a place of grief When my mom passed away, and it was time to sell their home, my sister and I had a hard time deciding what to do with all of the stuff. To be honest, my mom didn't have a lot of stuff to begin with, but there were a lot of memories we had to learn that we couldn't keep everything. I didn't want or don't want my boys to have that same experience. I recognize however, it definitely recognize decluttering doesn't need to take up your entire life! I honestly hate decluttering 😆 I much rather spend time doing enjoyable things with my family. Thank you for sharing this, it's a great reminder that decluttering can clutter your mind if you allow it to. Life's too short for that nonsense!
I’m glad you can appreciate the message. I understand about the grief too. When my mom passed a few years back, although I already had much of her stuff after they downsized into independent living home, I had to decide what I would now do with her china, collectibles, her furniture, her linens…it was hard. I found a solution though and worked through the emotions around it. And for the same reasons…I didn’t want MY kids to have to deal with two generations of stuff. There’s still some work to be done…but when I have the energy and focus…which IS NOT now. lol.
This is great advice Jen, "it's about recognizing that a little bit of clutter is a sign of life it's a sign that your home is being lived in and enjoyed" and "realistic expectations", an inviting home, and finding balance ..love this. Thank you ❤️🙂
Totally agree Shauna! I think perfect has to be in the way I feel rather than what things look like. So a few things out on the counters doesn't trump the happiness I feel at just leaving it there and doing something else enjoyable!
Hey friend, I love this different perspective! I used to be obsessed with decluttering and minimalism as a family, but living with maximalists has been a real eye-opener. Trying to keep everything tidy was exhausting and made me cranky, especially when no one else was on board. I've realized it's okay for our home to not look like a magazine spread. It's a place we live, not a showroom. My husband is totally right about that. Letting go of perfectionism has been a huge relief for my mental health 💚
Yes. And at our age, when our mental health is also determined by our hormone balance, I’d rather be emotionally balanced than have an Instagram worthy kitchen! So anything to help my mood is a game-changer! ✨💕
Morning Candace! Thank you! This one was fun to make…and reminded me to continue living my life my way…and not the way influencers try to influence me to. lol.
❤Love your truth bombs. My home is animal friendly, child friendly, comfortable and luved in. I loved your epiphany special effects. Might have to borrow like an artist,😂 lol.

I needed to hear this! I consistently worry about my home being a mess I have a toddler his to young to understand keeping things tidy. I am learning now it’s ok for my ki thing counter to have the staff that I used in a daily basis on it. I sally put everything inside the cabinet worry about staff that’s around all the time.
I hear you. I used to want completely clear counters. But then I didn't like taking everything out all the time and putting things back. I stopped and thought, "the counters are there for a purpose! The kitchen is supposed to be a place where you PREPARE FOOD! How could I prepare food when all the materials weren't available?! My counters have some stuff on them now. Just enough to be productive in there when needed.😀
Fabulous video, Jen! I love and appreciate the encouragement to find balance that feels good in our individual homes. I also loved the peeks of your home and the fun video editing that you created here. I currently have a mountain of decluttering to do, but I’m also comfortable with a certain amount of clutter that reflects my cozy lived-in lifestyle too. 🙌❤️ Thank you!
Good morning! Thanks for more great advice and sharing your "just like mine" normal, lived in home and not pristine museum.❤ Let's live and enjoy our family! I have a teenage son, two cats and as my husband and son really want one (me too) we will be welcoming a puppy next September 😂! So...yes we choose to live and not have a "museum" home.❤
Cats! 🐈. Yay! So you know of the odd sensation of cat litter granules stuck to the bottom of your feet? lol. And in the oddest of places…nowhere near the litter box! Even with a mat to collect the litter, AND an area a rug just outside the location of the box, put there for the sole purpose of keeping the litter from getting any further. lol. Don’t get me wrong..I ADORE my cats. I just can’t figure out or keep up with this phenomenon! lol🙃
Thank you, Steve! I think that’s part of our job…to ensure we are living in balance. Especially as we get older and attempt to shed all the prior “rules of engagement “ we were expected to live by.

Great video! I have friends who keep their homes immaculate then say their house needs cleaning. So crazy! My house is definitely lived in, it's not a wreck, but it's a little cluttered mainly because I have a small home. It's just me and my husband, but he is super messy, so it's impossible for me to keep my home looking perfect even if I wanted to. I wouldn't want to live in a museum. When I go to other people's homes that are immaculate it makes me uncomfortable. 🫤
