Someone brought up a good point. That the merger was never supposed to be something that gets paid off. It would be like a doomsday bomb in a super hero movie. It gets teased and hyped up but it’s never ACTUALLY supposed to happen bc the hero’s are supposed to win. And looking at the merger like that definitely changed my perspective and made me less frustrated when it didn’t happen and I was almost expecting it not to happen.

Comparing MHA to JJK is actually insane. MHA is a hollow shell of a show with a few good moments, while JJK is very thematically strong with a few bad really bad moments. Nothing in MHA comes close to Yuji’s domain speech to Sukuna or “I am you” to Mahito or Gojo’s death. All of these are really rich with character depth, and tie everything the manga is trying to say up nicely. Yet MHA’s peak is just two guys punching eachother with maybe a shallow theme (AFO vs All Might being passing the torch with not much deeper than that)
