Stay safe when you are sailing. Lodge your sailing plans with smart traveller or who ever looks after boats sailing around the world and even leave plans with your families.. sounds like an awesome trip.
Talk with Brian from Delos about Madagascar, they loved it. They also stopped at the protected British Islands in the Indian Ocean and were blown away by the sea life. Good luck, looking forward to your new adventures ahead. :)
Sailing Nahoa sailed your planned route a couple of years ago with a couple of kids under five. I hope you have a great trip through that area and Fair Winds and Calm Seas!!
I wouldn’t be counting on stopping at ‘those little atolls’ in Moz channel… they’re military bases and monitored by navy and from the air. You’ll get kicked out
The sailing community is so impressive, with eagerness to help other cruisers. Good on you! Bonita and Yosh are a fun couple. And I'll be waiting for your next episode. Your North American bud, :¬) Webhead USA
Long time coming indeed you Legends!! Amazing to see all your hard work and determination and passion (plus literaly blood, sweat, tears) come to fruition. Looks like a similar route that Delos did especially if you stop at Cocos Keeping eh? I’m sure you’re talking to everyone. :) SHAKAAAA! ❤
Just make sure you don,t route trough pirate ville . No need to become hostages there . Have a safe sail .🙏😇🥰🥰❤️&Light. I will show my nose every now and then . 😊
LOL, you guys have short term memories? To my memory, it was four years ago pretty much exactly that you were about to leave from Thailand or Malaysia to Africa. You even had a contact set up in South Africa, but then Covid hit, causing you to spending the past four years in Malaysia and Thailand. Yes, I've been following you for this long. It was your travels in the South Pacific, the Solomon Islands in particular, that first caught my attention. Anyway, I am looking forward to following along on your next adventure. Finally! :-)
Mate, South Africa is hot in December, especially Richard's bay, good route, most cruisers do this route, it's the tried and tested one, stay away from anything north of Tanzania, feral seaspace north. Timing looks good, Nose Be is awesome, friends just spent 4 months there and in Mauritius, Moz channel can be hectic but your direction of flow of Aghulas current is wrong, flow is east to west but there is a local counter current up the channel. The Moz channel will be the toughest along with the N tip of Madagascar, lot's of great places to hide/visit in Mozambique, Durban is a pig shite working Harbour, as is PE, try and do RB to East London, then if you can try and get into St Francis, only stop in PE if there's a feral westerly, from St Francis you can stop at Knysna (extremely dangerous and weather dependent) but a beautiful estuary, or Mossel Bay, then I'd head to Hout Bay. (I'm currently on the hard in PE in preparation for a single handed Atlantic crossing around October) so am pretty familiar with the coastline here, If I'm still here around then I'll buddy boat with you from East London but I doubt it......I'm already 18 months behind my original time frame 😢😢 But I've learned that time frames don't go well with sailing😂😂😂
Sv delos came to SA via Madagascar .Reunion Mauritius and Madagascar have amazing fishing.you won't be sorry.people are friendly on this route. Also good sail loft in Mauritius for repairs etc.Been watching you since the beginning.Have canvas business in Plettenberg Bay.Would love to meet and assist with canvas work repairs on the house.....etc
I did this route many times during my childhood aboard my parents’ boats - the common route we took was Sri Lanka/Maldives/Chagos/Madagascar/mainland Africa. If you pass the northern tip of Madagascar, give it a wide berth, it always seemed very rough up there - that’s why we often headed towards Mayotte first. Cheers!
Amazing passage New's, we all are wishing you the best on this portion of your life adventure. You both look so Happy, we understand the Hospital stay was very unnerving, yet after the Home visit appears all is going very well. Please keep us posted on the passage and Gods Speed.
Please come to South Africa and make a stop in Durban and we can organise a little meet up. The summer starts in September I can show you my boat build it's a compass 47 and you can even video it and make an episode for UA-cam Shane Leibach Sailing Skulls
Smart decsion not traveling by way of Yemen because of conflict between Israel and Gaza Strip. The Houthis have said that when conflict the violence and attacks on ships will stop.
This is exciting…little hard to pick up warm clothes where you are but I am sure you will figure out. What an adventure this will be. Smooth sailing and have fun…
Sounds like you need to talk to Sailing Florence for some advice. However, I think they went south of Madagascar. Sailing Nahoa did the North of Madagascar.
I live in Mtunzini, just south of Richards Bay. The last Cyclone we had here in Zululand, was in 1984 - Domoina - which was really damaging. It was followed shortly by Cyclone Imboa that was a lot of rain, but not too damaging! Cyclones generally don't come as far South as Richards Bay, although in 1984, we were warned to expect Cyclones in Zululand on average, every 7 years!
Generally Cyclones that do come ashore hit the Mozambique coast. Last year, Beira was hit by 2 Cyclones in quick succession. They severely damaged the Estoril hotel on the beachfront. We were last there as a family in 1972 when the Portuguese colonial masters were fleeing. Their incredibly poor construction methods were even then deteriorating. As far as I am aware Cyclone Season is January to April. I am not yet a sea vessel sailor but am interested in buying a 30 - 35 foot yacht in GRP, one not too large to single handedly sail. I know how to sail day sailors, so upgrading to a 30 - 35' should not be too dramatic.
In the last 4 decades we have lived not far from Richards Bay, we have always lived in Mtunzini and worked almost exclusively in Empangeni. Richards Bay gets really hot from November through to - and including February. I believe that this is because Richards Bay appears geographically to have risen from the ocean, so cooling breezes blow over the city and don't clear the super heated air away. A few years back now, a tanker drifted outside the channel into the Harbour and broke its back in the shallow (for a fully laden tanker) water. You must be able to float in less draft! That being said, there are many sights not too far away from Richards Bay to be explored.
Good route mate, definitely stay at Richard's bay, stay away from durban, definitely would love to meet up with you legends, but December you'll be sweating bullets😅
Hello Legends!!! The route to South Africa looks like a fantastic journey. The SV Delos crew went back to Madagascar for a second look when they passed through there so it seems like a really good place to explore when you cruise through that area once you hit reunion Island. Thanks for sharing. Yew!
YOO the map on the humbnail reminded me that you should do a quick video on your thoughts on "flatearth". Just an idea. Been subbed for years. Blessings.
Dont worry if You get to richards bay in the summer months You wil be fine, Richards Bay and the Durban area have a Subtropical Warm humid climate, remember the aghulas currant a warm tropical currant, Richards Bay get pretty humid and even in winter it warm there, only if you go down pass the wild coast towards East London do the weather get cold! So You guys wil be fine coming from the tropics!
Ahoy! :-) I'm so excited for you guys! I'm not familiar with the route so it'll all be new to me.... and that is awesome! Exploring thru your eyes so please post video as much as you can. (And stay connected with other boats!) Hope to start contributing later this year. Cheers! ❤✌️
# id hang around Mauritius 🦤 until its time to skip around the tip to touch St Helena for provisions, then get on the move to catch the surf in Morocco. 🌊🏄 Safe sailing.
Good to see you are staying well clear of the Somalian pirates. You need to do a little research on safety going up to the north of Madagascar and then across to SA. Beware S E wind Cape Town summertime and N W wind Hout Bay winter months. That area was my home for 23 years 😊
Was an interesting video re planning routes! Liked the theme of pros/cons. Liked the map graphic showing the routes discussed! Marley loves you for including him (and you should!)😊 Excellent choice and wishing you 4 Safe Travels when you depart! Let the Adventure Began!!🎉❤❤❤❤
Wow this is going to be an awesome year following your journey. If I were able to come along on the sail this would be the one I'd pick 2nd option. Gentlemen and Ladies start your engines and or fans
Love you guys! The route you're going to take is similar to the route Nahoa took around Africa, I think. Looking forward to following you along. Safe travels ❤
I'm excited for you. As an American non-sailor, my acquaintance with the southern Indian Ocean comes from two sources: the search for MH 370 which was hindered by storms and enormous waves, and UA-cam videos of the tankers facing walls of water that look to be 100 feet high. I hope that kind of weather happens only in another season!
If you are heading to east Africa you should not miss lake Malawi. I own a lodge called chiponde beach resort on likoma island. If you fancy a break after that journey you can stay for free. I should have my boat by then.
Everyone is stearin clear of the Red Sea for safety reasons, so good idea to hop skip and jump 15’ and head west young man. You may have said, but how many days sailing west once you leave Thailand across the Indian Ocean? All the best and La Vagabond have set up an app for hooking up with others.
Tanzania and Kenya are fabulous. You must go on safari. The town of Arusha in Tanzania is a great starting point. Botswana is also fantastic near the Okovango Delta. I suppose you will leave Marly behind again ??
Excited for your future plans, and praying you don't find more issues once on the hard stand! Get er done! Enjoy your preparations! Have a beautiful week!❤❤❤❤
Sounds like a very good choice! Staying out of the Red Sea is a VERY good thing! Even with no military problems there is way to much piracy there. Remember too you'll be in South Africa during their summer. Not Thailand warm but livable! Can't wait! The adventure continues!

Awesome! Thanks team, yes for sure! No doubt we will be in touch! Bonita’s been rewatching your sails across! X

Greetings from South Africa here. Hope we can meet up somewhere along the coast line. Wishing you fair winds and following seas.....
The reason I've been watching your channel for 5+ yrs is because you two are the genuine article. You are as about down to earth people as they come.
I like how Marley gets a say, very cool to be cruising with your dog
Long time coming indeed you Legends!! Amazing to see all your hard work and determination and passion (plus literaly blood, sweat, tears) come to fruition. Looks like a similar route that Delos did especially if you stop at Cocos Keeping eh? I’m sure you’re talking to everyone. :) SHAKAAAA! ❤
