I love the fact that you kept the footage of fixing the drill press in this. It's very humanizing, and for all that I LOVED the entire thing (as I do every single one of your videos!!), that was extremely charming and funny to me. Also, this might be my single favorite sword you've ever made! Stunning!!
Its a beautiful sword. On a side note: I often see blacksmiths making Pompeii style gladius. I'd love to see a Mainz or even a Gladius Hispaniensis build.
Beautiful work! I’ve never seen the step you took several times clamping the sword between two sturdy wooden beams. What does that do? Straighten the sword? Control cooling?
I don’t know the history of the blade, but how did you feel about the depth of those finger grooves on the (absolutely stunning) handle? They look like they might get a little sharp on the hand but I wonder how it felt in yours? I love the whole build, gonna share with my roman history nerd friend ;)
'When I pulled my sword, it sang, it cried for its new scabbard to be the chest of the barbarian hordes opposed to me. It sang to beg that it be set free to cleave the limbs off my enemies. It sang that it was forever thirsty and to slake it's forever thirst, it must be quenched with the blood of my enemies. The blade wailed and wished to bring death. We are legion. We kill for peace.' -Chris Burdett 'We kill, for peace' -1992
It turned out well. But I find it hard to imagine that 2,000 years ago, when high-quality steel was very valuable, blacksmiths could afford to forge a billet twice as thick as needed, only to have half the metal scraped off on a whetstone. But in the modern version, it is a good reproduction, as I said.
“THIS IS a SPATHA!!!” (stabs Emissary Gladioli in the chest, then kicks his dying body into a deep well that, surprisingly, has absolutely no protective wall to prevent people or animals from falling in and contaminating the water).
I work at an old car dismantliers ,one Thursday night boss goes wanna help my friend dig through the old tools and leaf springs and front arm, double pay ,yip old guy turned up ,out with the leaf springs prte 80s ,he goes i make knives and sword and other cutting stabby things ,so he got couple of pallets of leaf springs ,couple of fish bins of old sp[anners imp Brit and USA ,whitworth stuff ,big ring spanners of varinging imp sizes ,its 11 pm hes done walks of to his truck and comes back with a long sword thing for boss and for me a beautiful double edge 5 inch some majical heat treat in angle piss blade in a beautiful light Rimu handles and dam sharp in a little leather sheath ,crazy skills
The hilt of the Roman sword is short so that the hand is tightly fixed between the guard and the pommel. this makes it possible to precisely control the sword. The hilt of this sword does not fix the hand. a beautiful, but not historical product.
Beautiful work of art!
Functional and a work of Art as well, Bravo!

Thanks the funny thing is the broken switch was irritating me for a few years I think. Only now I got to open it up and found out it was a, easy fix.
That's a beautiful sword! Thank you for sharing the process.
Absolutely beautiful!

Absolutely magnificent
Stupenda congratulazioni, Italia Roma .

Great job, congratulations! I would be happy if you decide to make some Thracian swords - rhomphaia, sica or makhaira.
One of the best sword i have ever seen, and indeed its your best sword video.
Belíssima 👍
Looks awesome weapon.....

Reminds me of Cincinnatus.
This is one badass creation.. did you make a sheath for it?!
Sweet
That green coating is a new thing to me, it got my attention.
When you put the hot blade between two slabs of wood. Does that add carbon to the blade?
High level.
Plan on doing any mosaic pieces?
Is putting the blade between the timber another way to heat treat the steel ?
Between this sounds on loud speakers and RuneScape smith sounds I wonder what my neighbors think im doing 😂❤

What kind of steel do you use?
I'll take two! xD
splendid job bravo. Question did the Romans have the same tools. ;)
❤

What was the wood you used?
Beautiful work. But what’s the paint for? If that’s what it is…

And at medieval times, was it the same abrasive electric equipment?? This is unfair, as i think..😊

It will KEAL!! Marcaida, Doug
Thats brilliant, but think about those guys who made these without modern equipment, it was all done by hand an eye.
Very uncomfortable handle indeed. Let’s hope you don’t have to use it.

Scabbard in a separate video?
Nobody cares about the scabbard
handle is not practical. Blade is nice
Nice work, not a fan of that handle though

So is this guys thing being gay?
I wouls say one of these is worth 200 maybe 250 bucks.
😕☹️???...
verbazingwekkend!!!!!
Bad handle… if smash or recoil the hands will get hurt i rather use knife
Pommel doesn't look right

You should test sword against sword to show the quality of your tempering, not against some lame metal, come on Freerk!!!!
Yes. But not with the customers piece. Good idea though.
