Her singing and voice was perfect for his songs! He should have written a song with her for her debut or 2nd or 3rd album

WTF are you talking about? That's not what he meant. He said, "... she had *star* potential," which is not the same as saying she had potential as a singer. Being a star has to do with other things alongside vocals. And he said that because even though she wasn't yet at that time accustomed to singing live as a main performer, she showed already stage presence.
