Sailed on her with my parents December 3-21, 1981, San Francisco to Sydney. I was 18 years old and she was my first and only cruise to date. Very fond memories of the ship, and the crowd of young Canadians I hung out with the whole time. Thanks for this video memory
Couldn’t help but shed a tear watching and listening to the narration on this beautiful ship. I’m 87 now and remember with happy memories of 1964 when my husband and I as immigrants (10pound poms) sailed from Southampton thru Lisbon Portugal thru Suez on to Fremantle in Australia. We had a gloriously wonderful holiday, in fact best we ever had even though we had very little money. I shall never forget. Thank you ORIANA❤
So nice to get your comment Mary. The videos were made by my father Joe, who sadly passed away a few years back. It brings us great joy to see his videos still making people happy.
I came on this ship With my parents in 1962 and I was 9 years old now both my parents passed away but mum had a picture of this ship in her possessions lovely memories
Cruised on Oriana in 1971. I was 21. Southampton, Lisbon, Gibraltar, Palma. I recall very serious vibration mainly experienced in the large bar at stern. The effect was that your drink would fall off the table if not supervised😢. At that time a very large crack had developed on the superstructure port side / stern caused by the engine vibration. This was my second P&O cruise, the previous year on the original Arcadia. I was smitten. After that Canberra after the Falklands with my wife and 2 young children. Very many cruises followed.
Excellent video. Brings me tears. I’m know 57 but as a teen cruised on her in the Pacific in 1979(so she was in Australia by then doing cruising). Then we did another cruise around 1982/3. She was a wonderful ship to wander round. So many lovely rooms both large and small. Some quite hidden. And a big range of shops sprinkled throughout the ship and 3 pools.
I was on the cruise prior to her last cruise in 1986. Yes, you could see that she was about due for a "refit"...but we all saw beyond that. That cruise on the "Great white lady of the sea" was my ultimate holiday! I was a 29 year old "party animal" & had promised myself to still make it to breakfast everyday & I did! I remember her, the people I met (fellow passengers & crew) so well. I also remember the emotional love & bond we all shared with "Orianna"...it was a palatable thing. I don't think anyone, not just me, EVER wanted to disembark from her...
This is such a treat! How nice to hear your voice as you tell the ORIANA's story. She and I were "born" in 1960 and she was a childhood favorite, although I never got to sail in her. Visited her many times in Los Angeles and San Francisco between 1974 and 1980.
Great video and narration, thank you! Family migrated to Sydney on her in 1967 via Suez Canal, I think we were the last ship through for a while due to regional unrest. I had an amazing 21st pool birthday party onboard! Been smitten by ships ever since as Oriana was a beautiful and rare liner, not any old ship. Very fond memories ❤
such an evocative video of a much more gracious era of ocean travel. I went on Canberra, but regret missing out on Oriana. Thank you for sharing the wonderful images.
I loved that ship. I remember my dad Jack Scott brought me on it with my mom. I was 4 years old, I had a Fanta orange soda. I've been trying to find Jack Scott but to no avail. Did you know him? I don't know what rank he was but I remember he stored his car here in Vancouver it was a 65 or 66 mustang convertible California plates copper colored. Ide love to find my dad
Thank you for a wonderful story of a ship I knew so well and loved. In a previous video, I said that Oriana made he maiden voyage to Australia in 1958, yet you say that voyage took place in late 1960. Maybe it was my youthful 14 year old brain that for some reason thought it was 1958. I know we sailed on Oronsay from Tilbury in late March 1961. I had a lump in my throat watching Oriana and reliving our journey to Australia arriving in Melbourne on a wet Sunday morning on 23 April 1961. Such wonderful memories. Many thanks Joe.

My first ship, as an engineer cadet, in 1977!

Lovely ship. Would have loved a trip on it. Had to make do with the newer model, less iconic. Thanks. Aussie Bob ❤
Great ship to work on grand crew
