On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-25-21.
We're looking at a 2003 Ford Thunderbird T Bird James Bond 007 Edition in Coral Paint. The car comes with the factory 3.9 Liter V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Dennis Roxworthy. Dennis’s had this car since new. He shares he saw the color and ended up loving this car. This car has only 268 original miles and we’re taking it for a ride.
ENJOY!
*Hi, If you like this video, please click on the 🤍 THANKS button under the video title" Thank you! Lou*
I'm still in awe over the miles. But then again, Mr. Roxworthy always delivers the awe! Another unique & rare car for all to see. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, YES! THE MILES ARE CRAZY LOW! You're welcome, Lou
These cars are small, heavy as a bastard.
It needs a 3.0 L Lincoln Continental engine.
Not some goofy detuned English job.
We need to stop bending over the Queen.
Our State Department is over run with these fops.
That MSRP is sick high at 43,000+.
Think about it, you could get a Marauder for $10,000,00 less.
You could almost buy two stripped down Super Duty's for that price.
@@Johnnycdrums it's about 63,000 in 2022 which adjusted for inflation. People paid as much as 10k over MSRP when the car was first released. Katie Couric had one of the first ones made for 2002.
These cars and the Lincoln LS of the time are very underappreciated.
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
The underpinnings and engine are the same as the Lincoln Ls 1 of the same. But it's a nice car
This evolution still has the elements and the elegance of a Thunderbird
Hi FairRodTheCapacitor, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This was a good choice to show on the channel. Late model Mustangs, Camaros, and Corvettes often look the same or similar. Showing the late model T-Birds is interesting because they are different looking, their bodies are not all the same! I enjoyed this video.
Hi Jed, Happy to read "I enjoyed this video" :-) Lou
Lou gets the cars that get overlooked but not forgotten.
Sure wish old Poo I'm mean Lou would quit manhandling trunk paperwork and fragile little parts and paperwork. He's demanding too. Not a fan idiot
Beautiful T Bird
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Thanks Dennis for your very nice T'bird great video Lou-still watching your shows thanks!
HI Floyd T, Happy to read you're watching the shows :-) My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
The retro Thunderbird, to me, seemed like a great idea at the time. I’m not sure the sales numbers were what Ford was expecting. Seemed to fall way short. Of course, several manufacturers delved into the retro trend; Chevy HHR/SSR, Ford Thunderbird, Chrysler PT Cruiser, and kind of the Chrysler Crossfire. I never heard of the James Bond 007 version. Very unique automobile! Thanks Lou for a great presentation!
Hi Rusty, Seemed to be expensive for a "fun" car. Glad to read you learned something new with the James Bond Edition, and I didn't know about that either. Appreciate the kind words on the presentation, and you're welcome. Lou
@@loucostabile There were Jaguar underpinnings and I think that turned the purists off. Had they gone with the Mustang drive train, it would have made more sense.Even tho Ford made the engine for both the JAG and this, it was still a Euro engine in an American icon.
"Roxworthy........Dennis Roxworthy." Thanks Lou!
Hi Brian SD, You're welcome. Lou
When I worked for a very large rental car company in San Diego back at the turn of the century...we had 3 of these retro T-Birds. They were rented as luxury cars with an add on fee. They must have been on some sort of lease from Ford because we gave them back to Ford after about 6 months...Have a blessed day!!
Hi Gerry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the cars you remember at the Rental Car Company :-) Blessing received. God bless you, thank you for viewing, and sharing, Lou
Cool 😎 James Bond Memorabilia to go with this too!!
Agreed :-)
Good on Dennis for acquiring a cool little collectible like this Bond 007 T-Bird and sharing with us viewers. And thanks Lou for showcasing this, a special I didn't know existed - but now I know : ) Such is the case with My Car Story; a great channel that I've learned quite a lot from with rare jewels from across the globe.
Hi Bruce H., Happy to share this Bond 007 Edition with you. I didn't know about it either. I find it so much fun to learn about the cars right along with you :-) Lou
Atractivo este Ford Thunderbird 007 James Bond 2003. Además que estuvo muy bonito y alegre el recorrido que hicieron... Saludos!
Greetings Jaime, Happy to read you find this car attractive :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Dennis sure does have an eclectic collection. I did not know about the James Bond edition. It’s impressive that Dennis did not drive it and kept it.
I think this generation of Thunderbird will become an icon of the early 2000s.
Great Trunk and Treats.
Thanks Dennis and Lou for bringing this beauty to us!
HI Jeff, I didn't know about the James Bond Edition either :-) I think you're right, this car has probably depreciated and will probably go up in the future. Glad you enjoy the "trunk & treats" in this episode. You're welcome, Lou
268 miles...amazing! Did not know
about the OO7 Edition.
Hi Rob, Happy to share this low mileage 007 Edition with you :-) Lou
It had about a 7 second appearance in Die Another Day driven by Bond girl Halle Berry.
This a such a beautiful automobile, especially in the coral paint color. I don't believe that I had seen this color before. I always liked this car, but they were just too darn expensive for me. Thanks Lou, for giving me something to dream about tonight 😴👍
Hi MikeYQR, Sweet dreams :-) You're welcome, Lou
3.9 figures to roughly 238 cubic inc.I liked the clean styling. These & the prowlers had the same hp @252 & both could have used a little more according to most owners. That & kinda plastic interiors held them back but if Ford would have fixed those things it would have been pretty expensive.I think they got it right & nice example & love all the goodies in the trunk..
Hi Richard, Thank you for viewing and sharing you appreciate the styling of this car. More HP would have been a good idea. Glad to read you enjoy the goodies in the trunk, Lou
All modern cars have plastic interiors.
The V8 engine is the same one used in the 2003 Lincoln LS. I believe Ford built this engine at the Jaguar plant in England. I found the car performed fairly well in my LS.
Hi JON, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
I had the same engine in my 2006 LS, they were built on the Jag platform.
Ford built the Jaguar engineered for US, Just bought my 2004 last week,
That's the beauty of this... One of the very few distinctive cars from this era of "jelly bean" cars...
Thank you for sharing.
We love it of course!
:-)
I just bought a 2003 and I love it
Congratulations!
Dennis's 03 Bond edition is sweet, but woefully underused. The other day to work, I saw two turquoise ones with 3 cars in between. That was cool. And the color I'd get when new, but back then I was lovin my 1996 Buick Ultra too much.
Hi Pat, Happy to read you enjoy this "sweet" car :-) I like driving them too. Lou
Love that brochure that compares the 57 to the 03....
Happy to read you enjoy the brochure comparison of the two cars :-)
I don't know how he got it right to only accumulate that amount of miles. I'd like to know how he got it right and how he keeps the car in working condition if it is never being driven. It is just completely mind blowing.
Hi Johan, Actually, not being driven in some time, Dennis had to take it to the Dealer and get some injectors working correctly, change some fluids, and once that was done, we're on a ride :-) Lou
I always loved this re-do - the stylists took a very intelligent and restrained approach. Nice to see the trunk about as long as the hood - retro proportions.
Hi Jay, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Cool 😎 retro styling!!.. must take a lot of will power to not drive it very much!!
Hi Thomas, Happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) Lou
OMG I love these, my dream car that I can't afford. My brother bought a new one when they came out in T bird Blue and he has over a 100,000 miles on it but it's still in mint condition. Thanks for the video, Lou
Hi Clark, Happy to read this is a "dream car" for you :-) Glad to read your Brother has one too. You're welcome, Lou
They are adorable if you get a higher mileage example and not a bond edition or Niemann Marcus. I got a 2002 a few years ago it is in great shape had 72 thousand miles on it I got it for 10 grand it's white with the red and black interior I had the hard top painted red it's a real head Turner.
Very nice car. I like the color combination.
Hi Randall, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Guy reminds me of Iococa. I saw one like this (not the Bond edition) at Mecum, white, hard top, went for 20K, low miles. Cool looing, my favorite color. White, but the way is the safest color on the road--people see it, day and night and studies how it is hit the least of all the colors, any model.
Hi Jmichael Isbell, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
What a beautiful T-Bird. It's a shame that we don't see more of these in Nova Scotia. Lou we love your car stories in the great white north.
Hi Mary, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Appreciate you share you "love" the car stories! Thank you for sharing, Lou
Thanks, Lou! Another great video. This guy looks familiar. Another video?
Hi roysmemorylane, Happy to read you enjoy this video. Dennis has 28 cars, and almost all have been featured. You're welcome, Lou
I always loved the ford thunerbirds this one is good looking and in beutiful red
Happy to read "I always loved the ford thunerbirds" :-)
Great video. I remember when these came out. I think Ford really missed an opportunity. IMHO, the went way too conservative with the styling and the motor. They had a chance to build a corvette fighter, and instead built a personal luxury car for old people. What young person with 48K to spend on a car is going to buy that?
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy this video :-) I like the "Corvette Fighter" idea! Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
It was built as a cruiser not a young persons car also the average Corvette owner is older.
I'm glad to see this video. I never had that close-up a look at the retro T-bird. I have seen some in parking lots where I could peek in the window, but I was not able to get inside or see under the hood and in the trunk. I wish the Bond movie would have featured a different color. I am not a fan of coral. Just prior to viewing this video I watched one that compared a 2003 to a 1957. I believe they were saying that the retro T-bird was one of Ford's disastrous mistakes. I don't agree! The thing I think that mostly limited sales was the fact that it is a two seater. Although the original Thunderbirds were two seaters, they expanded to four or five seat cars in 58 and tweaked that body well into the 70s. So if Ford had made a retro version of the 63 or 65 Thunderbird, which was it's real legacy, I think it would have done better in the market. One other point I have come to the conclusion that Dennis really doesn't like convertibles with the top down. He is a collector, so he buys them, but the top remains up, or in this case on. Another great video, Lou! Congratulations.
Hi Daniel, Happy to share this retro T-Bird with you :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Love these Thunderbirds!
:-)
This Thunderbird Retro is bubbling with enthusiasm but the rim seems appeared from nowhere, it's kind of modernity 1:32.
Hi boson, thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Absolutely sweet !!!!
:-)
Never a favorite Thunderbird, but I can appreciate it. At the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum a few years ago there was a black Thunderbird newer than this one. It still had all the factory assembly line stickers on the windshield and the plastic cover on the seats and steering wheel.
Hi Dave, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) Thank you for sharing the one you remember ay the Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum, Lou
Like Halle Berry, that's just drop dead gorgeous! 🤗
Nice :-)
Another instant classic with Lou
Happy to read you enjoy this car Kamikaze :-)
Think It's 289 in ci displacement and when it came out it was love at first sight it's a shame Ford didn't keep it around longer than a few years
Hi Larry, Happy to read "when it came out it was love at first sight" :-) Lou
This car is wicked, wicked, heavy.
Which is O.K.
Thank you for sharing.
It weighs 3,775 pounds. The '56 weighed 3,465 pounds. Right, very heavy.
Amazingly well preserved!!
It's brand new :-)
I wasnever much for "re-production" cars, but this is nice, love to cruise around in this! nice! thanx lou (actually prefer the originals of course!) lol
Hi Mouse, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) I like the 55-57 too, Lou
Lou. Love all your videos. I can't believe it's these cars came out close to 20 years ago. Seems like yesterday. Amazingly I still see a lot of these around where I live in N.J. The T-birds I see all seem to be in very good condition. I guess people took good care of them knowing they would be collector's items.
Hi Bobby, Happy to read you love the videos :-) You're right, seems like yesterday and I agree, people car for these T Birds, Lou
Informative brochure too!
Thank you for sharing what you notice.
What would have made this video more interesting would have been to compare this modern age T Bird to his original 55....
Good idea.
gem
:-)
268 original mi. Cool.
My daily driver is an 04Mustang..with 268,000mi on it...no kidding. I bought the thing for 400$ (yes, hundred) 3 years ago, fixed a small issue it had and been driving it ever since. Although it's got hi mileage, it's in really God shape for it's age, the inside looks realy good, but the paint is pealing.😆
Anyway, I have always loved these Thunderbirds...they look so cool😄 thanks Lou!🤟
Hi Wesley, Happy to read you're enjoying your Mustang :-) Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this Thunderbird. You're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile 🤟
It's hard to believe that the series is 20 years old already. It still looks up to date.
I haven't seen even one of those, here in Europe. All they send us are those ugly Mustangs.
Now, if only Ford Motor Co. would do us a retro Continental Mark II.
The only things to really complain about are the two-toned door panels (there's too much black, in there). They should have been made entirely in white, like they were back in the classic years
Hi Al Dente, You're right the styling is still fresh. Thanks for viewing and sharing your thoughts, Lou
love mine 2003 36000 miles black on black
Nice :-)
Very nice 😀
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car is "Very nice" :-) Lou
Not the best or most reliable cars, but I always liked the looks of them. Almost bought one a few years after they came out.
Edit: I'd have bought it if it had the 302.
Hi 20alphabet, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) The 302 and a bit more HP for the price would have been a good idea, Lou
It as as good as any Mercedes of the same era, but with cheaper sourced parts.
At $43,00 they didn't scrip on this heavy little roadster.
Thank you for viewing and sharing,
You didn't see a door-mounted trunk release on a 2000s Ford passenger car? ROFLMAO.
Real smart for "vehicle security".
And absolute GENIUS in case of a dead "trunk mounted" battery.
Thanks for sharing.
it was a good idea but didn't get a market. Needed a 5 litre and it would have sold to the performance crowd
Hi Kenneth, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
It was intended as a cruiser the hp was in like with most v8s of that era like the 5.0
Wow..
Hi B dot Allen, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Lou
Not my thing but it’ll appeal to many others. I’m surprised they didn’t sell better.
Hi Craig, Thanks for sharing, and hope you'll enjoy the next one, Lou
They sold 68,000+. Not bad at all.
I'm thinking Austin Powers, maybe Johnny English
:-)
I never realized some of the body panels in this are actually fibreglass....
Hi Thomas, Thank you for sharing what you noticed in the video, Lou
Not Fiberglass, but the front fenders are of a modern composite material used on many other modern cars.
A 3.9 L = 238 cubic inch.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks , DENNIS & Lou, etc. Oddly interesting: the newer TBIRDS SEEM TO BE ON,AN increase in interest & Drama.. Anyways, am we imagine *IF:: there was an F CODE, of TrackPack, Super-HANDLING EDITION, (/aka KING COBRA), ETC. Incidentally, my great AUNT traded their STUDEBAKER HAwk, (1956??, real dramatic), in for a “ loaded” Port- Hole THUNDERBIRD ( slightly before I became a CAR GUY, no pictures): surprising since they Lived in SOUTH Bend, etc. Dennis M, HELENA Valley MT………
Hi Opera, Glad to share this like new 19 year old car with you. Thank you for sharing the story of your Great Aunts car trade, Lou
It doesn't get much cleaner than that!
Like brand new :-)
What is all the plastic squeaks? The top? I have heard the tops can be noisey. We are looking to buy a generic one, but the squeaks would drive me crazy.
....yes, a bit squeaky.
"Flat spots" on radial tires. Probably to be expected with a 2-ton lead sled like that.
Yep.
DOHC don't have the torque of the Pushrod V8s. I saw it coming.
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
....sharp car, right Lou?
Hi Mike, A clean design. Nice car, Lou
The deck body line at the rear end panel is typical of Detroit. 1/4 one side 5/16 on the other. [+/-]

What, no ejector seat or oil slick maker from tailpipes???? Man.....
Good idea !
chingon
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
If a GM 5.7 L engine is a 350 then I would guess a 5.9 L would be a 351 in.³
Hi Teddy, Thank you for sharing, Lou
I think he stated this is a 3.9L. Not sure of CI equivalent.
A5.0 liter is 302 cubic in.So a liter has a value of 60 cubic in.3.9 figures out to just under 240 cubes..
Barely out of the wrapper!!
You're right :-)
They would have sold better but they were overpriced. Started in the low $40s that was a lot for the early 2000s.
Hi Nicky Naime, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Lou
The Thunderbirds cost the same as a Lincoln LS of the same year. Now look at the used prices today.
82 Inca Gold in 2005.
Was it a hideous color?
Not a color I would choose.
What type of trim lines and does this car have am or fm radio
James Bond 007 Edition.
AM/FM/6 CD changer.
You know Lou this wasn’t the first time that Ford featured a new model in a Bond film. 1964’s Goldfinger featured the then brand new Mustang in a very great mountain car chase with guns and everything but this Halle Berry thing was on screen less than 10 seconds. It didn’t even make sense. She pulls up to the ice palace in where ? ( Iceland I guess ) But how did the car get there? Was it airlifted? It was a dumb obvious product placement cameo. The coral and white was / is very pretty. The 007 pistol logo on the dashboard is goofy. The movie did nothing to promote sales of this car. It’s really a pity too because when these came out in 2002 they were greatly anticipated but turned out to be a major flop for Ford. Ford cheesed out on everything from the owners manual printed only in black-and-white with borrowed text from every other Ford product and that cheap as a Rubbermaid trashcan LS Lincoln interior. Oh and also back in 2002 I remember that the dealers were charging a $10,000 premium for this thing over sticker. With all due to respect to this owner who is obviously very happy that he has this under 300 mile example, it’s gonna go the way of the Thunderbirds movie Lady Penelope pink Thunderbird… a topic of jokes. ( Rolls-Royce knew to stay away from that movie but Ford ate it up )

Nice Thunderbird, but too much "James Bond" bling to it. Not one of my favorite videos. The car is too new to be considered as a classic. JMO.
Hi Michael, Happy to read you appreciate this "Nice Thunderbird" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The 007 "James Bond" Edition because James Bond was in the same movie with the female star - Halle Berry - that actually "drove" one of those pieces of junk in the movie for all of seconds.
Making it a literal "chick car", lol.
Thank you for sharing that movie trivia.
The car modeled after a Soap Dish.

My 2002 soap dish turns heads I get compliments on it all the time at least it's not just another cookie cutter design from that era.
I do not see any "James Bond" on that car. It's looks like any other Thunderbird only never driven a lot.
Hi LITTLE, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
There is a 007 above the glove box and the color combo was similar to the car used in the bond movie that year also a few other 007 markings
Worst car I ever drove
Because....? Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
