Interesting post. I too have been frustrated by the performance of rechargeable batteries. Good to know about IKEA batteries. Would never have considered them. Will get some with my next purchase.
Something I have noticed from my own collection, is the better quality and performing batteries are heavier in weight. Would make sense that they would have more compound chemistry in them.
Perhaps if you do a follow-up post, you could include the weights between the various models? Would be interesting to see if heavier batteries are actually the better performers.

Thanks for your comment, Garry, and thanks for the suggestion. I too was very surprised about the IKEA batteries when I first heard about them, but they're good. Unfortunately, the 900mAh AAA's don't seem to be available any more (just the 750mAh version) but the high capacity 2,450mAh AA's are still there. I'll have to look into buying an accurate scale for lightweight items, as I don't have one at the moment. I had never considered the weight, but it's an interesting observation.

@@PhilUKNet I just use the digital kitchen scale. It measures from 1g through to 5kg. When purchasing batteries in store, I just tend to go for the pack that feels that heaviest in the same price range. Would be interesting to compare the weights of those you have that have high mA ratings against the low-rated ones to see if there is something in it.

@@JeaneGenie I just ordered one on-line. It can weigh up to 100g in 0.001g increments, so it should be quite accurate. It would also be interesting to compare the weight of genuine and fake Eneloops. I'm not sure when it will arrive, but thanks for the suggestion.

@@PhilUKNet Just seen your updated video, and thanks for going to so much trouble. Very interesting results. That sort of information helps us all get the best bang for buck on future battery purchases 🙂 👍

@@JeaneGenie Hi Garry, it was no trouble and it was quite an interesting exercise. Thanks for the suggestion. You were right!

Thanks for your info about the VapCell. Never heard from them and it didn't show up in my search in the shop at first. I bought 4 of them. All have 1039..1070 mAh. VapCell company says on their website that they never sell fakes. Price for value is great! Thumbs up!

I've been pleased with them too. I've had lots of problems with fake batteries when buying online from Lazada. I now buy directly from the manufacturer (Powerex, Vapcell) or buy Ladda batteries diect from IKEA and it isn't a problem.
When I first got the Vapcell batteries I did a test and the capacity was very close to the rated 1100 mAh. I've just done another test after several months of use, and the capacity has dropped to around 800 mAh, but still quite high for AAA.

Yes, nothing "real" found on shopee and only one, the VapCell, on Lazada. I had some Sony fakes from shopee, total crap. You measured them as around 200. Had also Energizer 800 previously which were maybe 700..800, didn't have a tester device then. The VapCell have much more capacity it seems. Means they are probably not in any way those recycled old laptop battery stuff that the Chinese sell. I need batteries with a lot of capacity for my wireless headphones. Really hard to find something like that online.

@HansRegli If I can get 200 mAh out of those fake Sony batteries, it's good. I've tested quite a few this week, and most are 30-40 mAh. They have 4300 mAh written on them! Some shops sell the same fakes and claim they are 4600 mAh! Cheap, but a complete waste of money. The highest capacity batteries I have are Powerex and Vapcell. The Ladda ones are good, but they don't seem to sell 900 mAh AAA any more, just 750 mAh.

Just measured my fake Chinese Sony 4300. They were recharged maybe 10 times max: 182, 157, 183, 138 mAh. Total waste of money.

@@HansRegli LOL! Exactly the same for me. It's actually impossible to get 4300 mAh from AAA NiMH batteries. I think the highest possible rating is around 1100 mAh.
Lazada always asks you to write a review when you buy anything. Most people probably don't test batteries, but in my review I gave them the test results and warned people that these batteries were fake and useless.
The shop then got really upset with me, replying that they were real and that they have lots of customers who are delighted with these batteries. You have to laugh!
