    It was hard to watch this video. I was wounded in 2005 by an IED in Iraq and medically retired in 2009 and released on a 5 year TDL. I was officially retired in 2013. I fought many infections and even had parasitic infections. So I stayed in a WWTU for many years until I got better. I met many wounded warriors over that time.
    I had a good cry today after watching this video, but I think I needed it. God bless all the soldiers and warriors I've met over the years. I miss all my Battle Buddies I made and I'll never forget them.

    May God Bless each and every one of you. None of you were “nobody’s”, you were examples of the best this country has to offer. This story must be told in as great a degree as possible. These men should be honored just as deeply as the “Greatest Generation.” They fought just as hard, suffered just as cruelly, and upheld their oath just as faithfully. As a combat vet 11b it always breaks my heart boy, don't ever like hearing how we think about our actions, you did everything perfect , you couldn't have done anything better, anything worse, you did perfect, its a hard burden to carry but I want you to know you did perfect,its not much but you have my utmost respect. An officers ego, and things determined by men who never have or never will be in these situations, who place blame on all those who were truly there, when in some meeting somewhere it started with a question as simple as "Why not wanat?"

    Surrounded by an overwhelming number of enemy fighters, that were well armed and had the advantage of high ground, a much smaller force that had not finished fortifying their positions, having only shovel and pick axes to dig through solid rock and rock formations, is not doable, in any timely fashion! There's no digging in...only scratching the surface. To many higher leadership failures to list. What these soldiers and leaders did was incredible. Fought like warriors, and then some, with zero support for roughly an hour. Never gave up! Its a damn shame they were assigned that mission when so short! The location selection alone set this platoon up for failure considering how fast QRF and resupply times were so long. Left out there with their ass in the breeze! Pisses me off our upper leadership made the call. SALUTE TO THE MEN WHO FOUGHT AND THOSE WHO MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE! GODSPEED

    I was on Dust Off 305 the first medevac that landed to take out the first load of casualties. I will never forget that scene as we flew into Wanat during that battle. It’s no shit when I say we went around dozens of times bc that hot LZ. That was me you told that to about Abad. Keep your head up Stenoski bc you sir were CHOSEN AF!! Had those Apaches been cleared hot we wouldn’t of went around so many fkn times and like Stenoski says “many would’ve been saved had birds been able to land” they didn’t clear the gun runs hot until too late imo. Of course the Air Force decided to run a “show of force” at 8,000ft and by some fkn miracle that managed to scare them enough when dozens of 30 cal gun runs and rockets didn’t do a damn thing. The way this whole fkn situation was handled was BS. “Rock Move” shouldn’t have ever been approved. You don’t send any unit to the bottom of a Fish Bowl in a remote village without any sort of construction equipment, any sort of drone coverage, literally nothing. The leadership FAILED CHOSEN COMPANY POINT BLANK PERIOD!

      Sebastian Junger once mentioned that the soldiers of Battle Co said OP Restrepo "won't be a Ranch House". It's a miracle no Americans died but the taliban breached the hescos, one guy hiding under the collapsed tower. Then Aranas happened which I think it was Brostroms first mission to recover those bodies. These boys went through hell, and it's really not fair that all of them don't get the recognition they deserve, Brostrom for one should have received the MoH.

    • @BattleofWanat
      @BattleofWanat  5 місяців тому

      @@saucejohnson9862 well said sir.
      General Schloesser officially put Brostrom in for the MoH supported by the Sec of Army. The Batt & Brigade commanders declined it, awarding Pitts.
      Several men on the ground wrote & supported the MoH for Brostrom. It stalled because of Gen Milley and the commanders.
      Schloesser & Milley were the two 1 star generals in charge of OEF VIII.
      Brostrom & Phillips both deserve the MoH for their actions according to many at Wanat
      It’s simple to understand why the MoH was not given to Brostrom, because the Army needed an escape goat because no leadership wanted to take responsibility.
      I stand to correct it, as I finally had the chance to set down with one of the sr leaders of Wanat who has been in seclusion for many years.

    A well known fact among “boots on the ground” and some of the public…This place was surrounded 360, the cop looked down upon from extreme elevation by enemy forces. Top F’d this up, somewhere along the chain of command. I know…”arm chair quarterbacking”, yet with experience losing loved ones to the GWOT. Ultimately for these young men who sacrificed all, gave all and still carry it all. I can only hope these men find the peace they so need & deserve. Thank you.

    The situation with Sgt Garcia really got to me. They should be allowed to put them out when they are in a condition like that. There is absolutely no reason someone laying there in that condition should have to sit there and suffer....
    These men deserve much more from their country and its leaders who send them out on missions like this, as if they are robots and expendable.
