I don't study with Chris, but I go to the same college that he works at. I just play tuba. But he's real incredible and it must have been awesome to learn from him!
Not that long ago Canadian brass came to one of the high schools in Connecticut (where I live) and according to my band teacher conneticut is where akilies studied. It was awesome.
my friends and i usually bounce ever so slightly to the new tempo, or we pick a certain part to set the new tempo- maybe whoever has quarter notes or a particular moving line, and it works pretty well!
Ha, that’s funny, Canadian brass came to my high schools performing arts center through the civic music association in my city and gave a master class. I worked that event as an usher since my other friends ran there lighting and sound needs.
I guess it's a good idea. However, I would think that someone at that kind of professional level that is playing in a small group and all of them are at the very top of their game, pretty much know what the tempo is supposed to be, since I assume they have practiced many times and also performed many times.
@@angus6495 You need atleast two beats to know what the rhythm is. You can't know the time in-between down-beats if you only have a single beat to work with.
@@carriedthunder3883 yes you have the upbeat which is the breath in and the down beat which is the first note. The same as a conductor giving an upbeat.

Your sound panels are like mine lol they are bending everywhere 😂
Haha yeah they’re pretty old😂
It's just so unusual, would have to get used to it
You never know until you try
So glad someone said it! Not sure why we don’t do this more

I'll try this at my rehearsal this week! Lots of good tips I've learned from Colletti and Romm
Definitely helpful for playing with less experienced players or students
I’m gonna be playing in a brass quintet soon and I’ve never heard of this so thanks.
This is genius. I've always had a hard time with getting tempo with one breath.
I guessed it right when you said communicate better tempo
Thank you!!

Also one thing I was taught for breathing was to breathe out on count 3, and in on count 4 to pull in more air
good for all chamber ensembles!
I've been wanting to form a brass quintet/choir forever but can't find enough players! 😭💖🎶

I don't know if this is necessary, we understand each other only with 1 breath and slight head movement, works perfectly every time

Moderate to slow speeds... give an audible exhale - inhale. For faster speeds... give inhale - inhale. Been doing this for decades
This would of been a big help during my first brass quintet. Lol
I can already see someone doing this, after the first breath they enter early lmao
what about bobbing your bell?

Bro I play in fifth grade band I don’t know if they know how to play, Mary had a Little Lamb😂😂
I'd try it, but i don't think the seniors are gonna listen to a 9th grader :(
Just be first trumpet
As my band director says, you need 2 beats to get the tempo
You're saying that you were signaling tempo with a single beat? As far as I know, that's literally impossible.
you don't know very much then

Ah, so you exhalate on the own and in on the pickup
You don't do enough pointing
One sound isn't a beat
burh just watch the conductors hand an feet, they always do a 4 beat count off, breath out 2 beats an breath in 2 beats, then play.
A conductor in a brass quintet?
