The Stinger didn't fail at all. It's brought significant positive brand recognition to Kia. It's a universally loved car but developing the fan base takes time. Lots of time. The Stinger and G70 will be iconic.

Of course people who couldn't distinguish of the old logo wouldn't buy the car, but the latest one is sexy AF, and I actually start to sense people are looking more for this car.

Love My 2022 GT and it never fails to put a smile on my face and a frown on the BMW's and Audi drivers that don't know the Stinger is way faster than them when they try to take a run at one. And how much did you pay for a BMW, Audi ? WHY and its that slow and how much to maintain with parts :) WHAT you got scammed and how much did it drop in price when you left the dealer ? WOW, how much for car insurance WHAT that's robbery. Sorry BMW, Audi just a little taste from the other end of the stick all in fun and the Merc don't even get a look in.

What is way worse the badge snobbery, is when a BMW, Audi or Merc tries to drag you in the Kia from the lights and the Kia walks all over them, that smile they had turns into a frown. Poor guy got beat by a Kia worth 1/3 of the price. That's very embarrassing for these badge snobs.

The first time I saw the Stinger in person was at the 2018 L.A. Auto Show. It was gorgeous! I told my friends that one day I would have that car. My dream came true in April of 2021 when I got my white GT2! I love it!

Daily driving mine 21 GT2 everyday and never failed in my book. For a brand like Kia, Stinger was a success. Success shouldn't depend on how many Kia sold the vehicles, rather it should depend on what they were able to produce against German and American competitors. That alone in my opinion was a success.

A correction: the Stinger was never offered with a manual, the only transmission available was an 8 speed torque-converter auto.
Other than that, a great video! I too am quite sad and angry that the Stinger was not successful, as I hate snobbery in general, with cars, even more. The Stinger's value is unmatched by anything in it's class. But sadly, people clearly don't value their money, and will waste it for a fancy badge.

It's comfortable, fast, smooth and handles exceptionally well for something its size. It was inevitable that it would meet its end soon, but the SUV craze is to blame for that. As a 2018 GT2 owner, bought new, I know what you mean. Since my first car a 1974 Pontiac Formula 400, bought new, I’m old, I’ve leaned towards sporty and quirky cars. Not every vehicle I’ve owned fit that mold, I’m looking at you 2006 Chrysler Town & Country, but I needed a utilitarian vehicle then and it served the purpose quite well. When I could buy a car for my needs I saw this Stinger ad and it was being driven 167MPH on a track. I thought what the hell is that, it’s gorgeous. I did some investigating and decided if I could afford it, it will be mine. In 2018 cars were being discounted and getting a deal $9K off MSRP and more than fair CarMax offer on my Crosstour (previous car) I was in. OMG I loved it so much and still do. I finally again had a car to go to Cars & Coffee and such shows. I had a blast and nobody knew what the car was. It was so much fun for me. I’m keeping mine until my aging body can’t bend to get in. I love this car and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned or driven.

I have a Stinger GT and absolutely love it. The video is pretty well spot on about 2 things:
    1. SUV dominance
    2. Badge snobs.
I've had plenty of admiration for my Stinger but also some badge snob comments from others.
There is also another factor I believe. Getting in and out of the Stinger. It's very low to the ground and for a lot of people not easy to climb in and out of.
So many reviewers saying however about competing with BMW, Mercedes and Audi but not properly clarifying like in this video. It doesn't directly complete a new sales car. A BMW 320 with much less equipment is significantly more expensive than a top spec Stinger GT, let alone a BMW M340i. Ditto for an Audi A4. Where it does complete is a new Stinger vs a second hand German car. And in that case, the reviewer is correct. Most people would rather go for the established luxury German marque than the Stinger. Even going so far as to purchase with little or no warranty left.

People walk up and ask me what it is or compliment the looks. The hatchback makes it incredibly useful. More useful than a traditional sedan. Badge snobbery is definitely an issue. Most people here in London/UK don't know what the stinger is, so I get a lot of looks and attention and people asking me what car I'm driving. When I tell them its a kia and that i chose it to be different from a BMW,Audi or Merc, they give me respect and say good choice and that its true, too many mercs,BMWs and Audis around.

You nailed it in this video. I own a Stinger Gt2 and its one hell of a car. Kia could have marketed it better and more often and sales may have been better but unfortunately they could get their crap together well enough. It didnt flop, people just didnt take the time to test drive it before they made judgement. Lets hope the electrified version comes out soon, the concept photos look amazing.

A year ago bought the '22 GTLINE (US). Sadly I was forced to get the AWD ver - rwd not easily available in my area. With the crazy used car market, it was the perfect opportunity to get into something else.
The 2.5T checks off more boxes than not. Build quality is about as expected for the price point.
Dealer network needs LOTS of improvement.

Kia made a hasty decision. Kia shouldn't have discontinued Stinger and rather kept it available for markets where Mercedes, BMW and Audi are too expensive for the buyers but they want a sports saloon. These markets are actually quite big.

Great Video! This is the best explanation on UA-cam as to what happened to this car. I have a 2022 Stinger and It's so unfortunate that they discontinued it because It's really a great car. I get lots of compliments and no one has ever shamed me for it being a Kia. More often, people are very surprised that it's a Kia because it looks somewhat exotic. On one hand, I'm sad to see it go, but on the other hand, there won't be many on the road, making it rare (and maybe sought after). Would be cool to get an EV version too, but it looks like they already have an EV crossover-type on the streets that they are invested in.

Yeap it being compared to luxury brands is why it didn't sell, because people just went and bought the luxury car instead. Every fanboy in the comments was saying , why pay 60k for a Mercedes C class when u can have a fully loaded singer for 50... But those people never bought either and people with the money just bought the C class

It wasn't a failure...it did a LOT to elevate the brand. It's a stunning vehicle and my guess the brand new Kia EV5 Concept could be the spiritual successor (EV5 Stinger would work). It is NOT the brand, but just one of MANY sedans that will be phased out as a result of the insatiable appetite for SUVs. Was the Mazda RX7 a failure? The Toyota MR2?
The proof that it is NOT the brand is the fact that the Genesis G70 is cleaning house and challenging BMW/Benz/Audi and actually beating the Germans at their own game. Call ANY Genesis dealer and ask them how many used Genesis G70s they have? Ask them about the wait times? Now contact your BMW dealer and see how many X3's they have. Genesis can't make the G70 fast enough. My point is, brand cache is important, but it is possible for an upstart to overtake the established German brands, so it's NOT just the Kia badge that led to this..

Honestly its in a league of its own as far as what you get for the price point. The styling, the engine, the tech. it was a no brainer for me when i got my 2018 GT.
Closest possible sports sedan in the same price point would be a Genesis or an Infiniti of some description. But the styling and stance on those cars just does not match the Stinger.....
I would have had to fork out alot more dollars for an XE or XF Jag to get what the stinger offers. Imho

I respect Kia for coming out with the stinger but I believe it fell flat for multiple reasons. Kia even today does not have the brand backing that other companies do. Yes it has improved but given a choice between a kia and a toyota most people will still choose the ladder, and this is even before you bring up the Germans. Secondly, the stinger was priced to high in my opinion. In 2022 the base stinger costs 36.5k. Yes thats about 4-6k (about the same price as an Audi A4 if you are comparing AWD apples to AWD apples) less than it's competitors but the issue is that the competitors have been leading the segment for a long time and many straight up have better performance numbers. I think they should have undercut their competitors by a lot then slowly increased the price as the car gained popularity. Also, They never came out with a super performance version, competitors to M, AMG, RS. The Luke warm performance sedan only works if you have a big hitter to aspire to, benz and bmw starting to realize this as they put amg and m badges on everything. Also, I think they needed to promote their massive warranty a lot more and make that as a major selling point as it is a major advantage against German cars. My Ideal Kia stinger would have been a M3 fighter for the price of a 340i with that 100k mile warranty.

I believe Kia didn't give the Stinger enough time to get people to become acquainted to it. Having driven one, I am thrilled in every aspect. Kia has made a mistake in killing off the stinger prematurely, in my opinion.
I am sorry to see it go and no opportunity to place an order for one due to Kia closing the order book.

I think if it sported a TT V8 (500hp) with a mean growl or a Hybrid V6 with around 450hp, it would have easily swayed so many more people into buying it. I bought my GT2 back in 2018 for my birthday. I love it and have thrown a bunch of carbon fiber parts on it with beautiful HF5 20s. Straight piped, but I only wish it had a V8 or better gas mileage. LMAO!

The marketing didn't help. The launch went well, they were all over Waterloo Station in London for a while. The initial ads were great. Then ... nothing! To change brand perception is not a one shot process: you need to keep hammering away over a period of many years. Kia gave up with the marketing in the UK after six months.

The stinger is the perfect blend of performance, luxury and practicality. The g70 is worse no adaptive suspension no good brakes and most of all no liftgate. If kia wanted to move to EV's literally just make an ev version of this exact car. This car is as near to perfection as it gets. I am so pissed at Kia. I am keeping my 22 gt2 as long as I can!
