So around Black Friday, I got a deal on a Borla X-Pipe. With that lower price, I figured why not.
The advantages: Improved flow (Maybe) and better exhaust note (Maybe). The installation was pretty simple and the sound change? Not sure yet actually. I haven't driven it yet or really compared on the highway. We'll see how this works out over this summer. Enjoy!
When I bought my 1999 C5 Corvette when it was only a couple years old, it came with a Corsa cat-back exhaust system. A few years ago, I decided to open up the exhaust a little bit, so I added a set of ceramic coated shorty headers. The shorties added a little more rear wheel torque. The Corvette had a rumbling exhaust note. Not quite the motor boat sound, but the sound of a cammed engine. It sounded rather good. I came across an online deal for a Corsa X-pipe. I bought and installed it. Now my exhaust note lost its rumbling sound and now sounds rather smooth. I liked the rumbling sound better.
Just swap out the X pipe for a H pipe you'll get the galloping sound back
I see your in Akron. I just bought a C5 and would love hear your car in person because I think this is the route I would like to go as well TI and Xpipe
Shoot me an email - jt@rubbercitymotoring.com
Drilling those small H-pipe holes open, "muscle boat" sound disappears and its more car sound, much better.
*X pipe borla it's must install with borla 140038 muffler . Than you will her a beautiful sound...*
Did you just jack up the back of the car from the cross member ?
So I believe I jacked up each side closest to the rear wheels and put jack stands. Honestly don’t remember, but you can see my jack stands in the video there.
Cleaner deeper and got rid of the “boat tick”
thanks for the video, just did mine last night
What do you think?
@@RubberCityMotoring sounds great so far. Not too noticeable but enough that I like it. Did you tune yours?
Yea same here. Nothing crazy. No tunes yet on my car, but I’m thinking when I do the LS6 intake manifold I’ll have a tune done.
Do you like the change from the H ? I have the borla x in my garage. Just need to install.
Haven’t driven it yet actually. It snowed again today too! Soon enough…
Did it make anymore power with the x pipe? It seems less restrictive
Haven’t done any dyno runs to compare. Sound changed a bit, so who knows.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I could buy a x pipe and replace my H pipe while keeping stock headers and axle back?
Totally correct. This bolts to factory system/setup.
Should've deleted the Cats! I installed on mine no cutting perfect fit!
How long is this?
The pipe? Not sure... Long enough to fit in the space where the H-Pipe was.
@@RubberCityMotoring see that's what I don't get, every place I've looked and asked gives me different answers. I've heard it's the middle section and then I've heard the into the area right at the rear and not much of a "length" to it
It runs from the catback bolt on exhaust, which is factory to the spot you cut, which is after the factory cats. It's roughly 4' long and bolts in place, simply replacing a factory section that has the H-Pipe crossover.
Some other setups replace the cats and run all the way back, much longer setup but I wasn't looking to totally remove my cats just yet.
During the revs I heard a slight rattle. What is that noise?
Pretty sure that's just the sound of the exhaust 'wind' coming out the back. Camera was super close, but no issues with my car since this install and not rattles.
stock sounds better
stock was better sorry
Honestly didn’t notice much difference on idle. Driving is better with the X I think.
