This and the 5600 were available for 35-45 dollars at the PX in Marine Corps bootcamp. I went with the 5600 but I know several guys who went for this one and never take it off their wrist. Granted this was 9 years ago
I’m wearing a completely blacked-out 5600 as I read this.
I wore this in Iraq and Afghanistan and still wear it today. Probably the greatest watch i've ever owned.
This is the modern version of a G-Shock that was used by the French Marine Nationale when they were using mostly quartz watches in the 80's, long after the Tudor days. I had it for some time and It's a fantastic deal indeed, 200m and tough as nails!
I have my brother's old DW-9052, back when it still had the 1659 module instead of the 3232. So, it's probably a late 90s, early 2000s model. He let me have it, though I had to buy a new bezel because it fell apart due to age. I replaced the lost spring bar, installed the new bezel, popped a new battery in, and cleaned it up. Only cost me ~$20 USD altogether.
This model and the dw6900 is probably one of the most common watches used by soldiers during basic training, used one for my whole service in the army, it took so many beating and kept on ticking! Got a special place in my heart for it
I believe the Air Force gave me one, purchased with “end of the year” funds on year. I wore it off & on for a while…I remember it being a decent watch but I liked my 5600 better.
Yup, got mine while at Ft. Leonard Wood
I picked up two of these at Walmart on clearance for $12 each. I also grabbed a couple Duros for $11 each.
Great review, there is something special about the round/horseshoe form factor digital G-Shccks! Enjoy it!
Those bumper bars is a shock protection for the back as the strap doesn't curve as others G in case of a drop.
Yep. Beat me to it.
Ahhh 🤔 that makes sense. Thanks for explaining, I’d always wondered.
Do you know why they didn’t make the strap curve to protect the case back, like the other G shock?
Believe the bumper bars on the back are so if you drop it flat on the back they absorb the shock instead of the metal caseback. This model has a different strap style than other G shocks where the protection from a drop like that is from the strap.
My daily workout watch. Glad to see it made it on your channel.
I’ve got 2 of these. Fantastic watch. I believe the nickname for this model is the “hand grenade” G Shock.
I have this one in the blue. I love the retro style.
Bought one for my dad and $80 during previous sale. It's solid and used it many times while travelling and working.
Just to set the record straight, this watch actually has a mineral glass crystal; not acrylic. That said, at American Amazon, the cheapest color variants of this watch are $50, whereas the DW5600E-1V (basic black) is $45. I do like this watch's dedicated centered G light button, but I greatly prefer the clean layout and compact size of the 5600.
@@DonaldJoeKennedy now if I could just find the 5610 for that price...
Love this model.... just makes me smile 😁 I got mine from Amazon back in 2020 for $69.00 Aussie dollars, while I was there I got the blue version too for that price 😜
Have owned this watch for a decade and it's still kicking. Love it in the collection.
Good one! Great introductory G Shock for my young nephew. Amazon are great retailing this one at a bargain price. Very tempting Jody, very tempting....
I, an expat Aussie with a bit of Scot in me, was fortunate to get one at 75% off for US$11 at the local Walmart in California. For me more personality but not as practical as the 5600. I got a lot of my what I think are high quality, reasonable price watches, Bulova, Casio and Timex collection on deals like this. Thanks for the videos!
The 9052 was my first G-Shock, and it's one of my favorite watches in my collection
Nice one, love those g-shock models, but my favorite is still my 30 years old dw 6600 and stil working perfectly.
Hi Jody - thanks for a great episode. In 1999 I was travelling around Australia and NZ from the UK. Whilst I was away, I wanted to buy myself a watch (plus ca change..!)
I was torn between a G-Shock and an oddity from Swatch called a .beat. (They were a weird/cool UFO-looking design which - alongside showing the normal time - also ran something which Swatch called Internet time. This system broke a day down decimally into 1000 units. All very odd and - with the benefit of hindsight - probably just a big marketing gimmick.)
I was all set on the Swatch when I saw a G-Shock for sale with a significant reduction, and just couldn’t help myself! In terms of shape, it looks almost exactly like the model shown here, back-bumpers and all. Mine is a translucent green/turquoise colour with a decidedly less frenetic seconds bar, and branded as G-Lide, which I think was marketed at surfers - online research suggests it’s a DW-9000S-3V and the back shows module number 1627.
It has - from time to time - been my daily driver, but 25 years on (and a few battery changes down the line) it maintains the G-Shock indestructible reputation by going strong after all these years.
Ive got this badger. Brilliant cheapo. Bought it around 2009. Its been on most of my tours and exercises in the Army, swimming, hiking, rock climbing etc. Changed the battery after about 10 years.
Looks like those bumper bars cover up the screws on the caseback, which I'd appreciate as those bother me sometimes
Just acquired one myself last week.$49 US on Amazon. Part of the appeal is the connection to the military as a tool watch and the fact that this one as well as the DW6900-1V and DW5600-1V have NSN stock numbers meaning they are a NATO inventory item. Up through the late 2010s the DW9052 was issued to US Navy SEALs. All three were a common find in military PX’s.
I've had this model for years as my beater, love it! 👍
Interesting to see someone so excited about this model. It is one of the most commonly available models is big corporate department stores in the US and usually cost around $45 USD
Still available on AU Amazon @ $66.01 AUD.
I purchased one last year. Love it❤
Auto restart on countdown timer and the time always shows and light on front button are great features
got a mudmaster in December for just under £60 from amazon, banger
I bought one of these years ago, in yellow, and gifted it to my friend, who then gifted it to his brother. As far as I know, it's still going strong all these years later.
Any chance you have the new Islander dress watch on the way for review?
Oh man. That’s awesome. Looks like one I had back in the day. Although right now I’m enamored by one of their more expensive watches, the GST B600. Thanks for the great review as always. Sooo…. Any more hints as to what you’re going to do with those 300 Quartz movements???😉
The GST B600 looks awesome doesn’t it. I wish they would make smaller, steel cases Gs with brushed finishes. I think Casio would be surprised how well they would sell..
LEDs are actually becoming the standard once again and are actually quite nice now. They are bright, need less power, mean they can use higher contrast LCD panels and also are supposed to last longer.
I have the same one. Bought from Kogan for AUD$65! I love mine, its a corker.
The 9052, I was wondering if this classic would ever make an appearance on here! I’d love to show you mind Jody. I have the black with gold accents; I put a gold bumper cage on it and then put the lug adapters on so it would accept an 11” nato strap that’s black with a gold stripe running down the middle. G-shock heads always point it out and ask me about it, it’s my work watch because it’s genuinely indestructible.
I’m totally diggin’ that t-shirt👍🏼
At the time of this video, it is gone. Probably gone before he posted the video. What a tease!!!😂
i just bought 1
Still available, 1 minute ago
I got one too, maybe 2 hours after the dropped. It's on Australian amazon remember
Around 6 months ago a colleague from work went on holiday for 3 weeks and on his return he gifted me this beauty. Absolutely love it for day to day wear and knocking around work and stuff 👍
I think you nailed it pre-unboxing. I don't use Amazon anymore, and yes that means i pay closer to RRP for some watches. I'd be tempted to take those guards off, it looks bonkers.
I have one with a negative display. Love it everyday.❤
That looks like a Tank 😮😮
Wow Judie! You bought my first ever G shock! My dad gifted me this one when I was in high school , 2003ish ! I still have it, love it
"Judie"... 😄 Yeah, I get a kick out of his episodes with a wig and lipstick. Creepy af, but funny all the same. "Judie" should have to don the wig and lipstick everytime "she" is holding/showing a pink watch.
Punch & Judie?
@@DonaldJoeKennedy lol sorry Judy
😂@@mohammedosman88
This is (or was) actually US Navy Dive School issue: It’s got proper provenance.
And it’s really not that big. Chunkier than my 5610 but not much wider.
Look at the end comparison shot: the Casioak is a dinner plate compared to it, despite being slimmer.
Those bars across the back steady it on the wrist plus the articulated strap hugs the wrist well (unlike my GA2100.)
I Jodi, I have one of those since 2000, and still goes strong. Some battery changes and its fine.
Friday the 31....revert the numbers, and the T Shirt makes sense
Got one at Walmart for $100 US on clearance and got a 5600 on Woot! for $25. Granted those prices can be hard to find, but they're out there. This one made a great mud runner for me.
The cheapest g shock I ever purchased was my dw5600 with the EL backlight. It was around $33 US on Amazon right as they were transitioning from the EL backlight to the new dw5600e with the LED backlight almost 2 years ago. The next is my gw6900 with tough solar and multiband 6 that just came in a couple days ago from Amazon as well for $89 which I think is a steal to have those features. Love the channel Jody, keep up the good work!
“you may be owned by a lizard and exploit people at every turn but hey…” Nearly fell off my chair at that 😂. Spot on Jody!
iirc, those bumper bars are probably too compensate for the cheap flat band. My shock has bands that bend down, a feature that is supposed to protect the case back, the most vulnerable spot, during falls etc.
Great video. Although i think the GW6900 Might be cheaper.
Great beater!
Good buy. I found that a few months ago. That G Shock is one of four that have a NATO stock number and I was trying to put that collection together when I found this one on Amazon too. As you say, not the usual format, but good nonetheless.
I was killed while wearing one of these ...
Glad to see you recovered.
It is but a scratch.
The 9052 is a fantastic affordable G that's as light as they come with a cool but basic feature set.
Thanks for the shout out!
I have one of these in the yellow accent. I can confirm they are great, but I have a lot of watches and generally prefer smaller ones, so I haven't worn it in ages.
When the Walmart near me got rid of their jewelry counter a few hears back all the watches were on sale for 70-90% off. I got a couple of these and some other Casios for about 17 bucks. It was awesome.
Seriously?!
Yup. Me too. I bought five. This was last year for my Walmart.
Nah... its best feature for me is the reduced features. Less to get confused with or have to scroll through. Got all the Gs I need - old GX-56 neg display with autoilluminate for night use (put it on an hour ago) n GBX-100 MIP display for daytime
I got my DW-5600 at my local Walmart for $13 on sale. That is easily the cheapest and best deal I’ve ever seen on one.
I have a 9052. It was my first g shock, and I still have it and use it all the time. Can’t beat it for the price
That is a face only a mother could love
The watch too. Cheers
Hi Jody, there was so much more to say about this particulare g-shock. Official US army approved, appeared in a ton of movies..
Cheapest G shock I bought was a DW5600E for $30 USD back in May 2024 from Woot.
Yeah got a Casio DW-5600E-1V G Shock for $25 from woot
thanks Jody - just got one for $66 and next day (Sunday) delivery. What a bargain!
Working Man's Watches had a G-Shock DW-5600 on his channel recently that cost him $28.
I live in Bulgaria and recently purchased a red dw5600 as a gift for 130 Bulgarian lev which is about 66 Euro.
That's a sweet deal jody good for you. it looks good on you ,I quite like it ,I love my g shock so much I have probably 10 of them g shock. Thanks again for reviewing this incredible piece. Hopefully, I can get it for the price you got it...! A seems like every u tuber reviews a wrist watch is either sold out or the price goes up 😅.. cheers and congratulations..
That's a classic model g shock. I got multiple variants about one, including a canvas band. You gotta check out the dw6900 and the rare dw6600. All similar in price and functionality.
found the DW-9052-2V for £50 in the UK, does pretty much the same but it's bright blue so may stick out even more at formal occasions
Nothing wrong with this G-SHOCK, nice big buttons, all the features you need, and none that you don't! Absolutely worth the small amount of money paid. Nice review.
Nice. I'm also a fan of Casio round Illuminator watches. They look like G-Shock for less than half the price. Only good for 100 meters water resistance but I've never had one leak, not even SCUBA diving. And if it does leak throw it away and buy another for $20 USD.
Good price. Love all casios! I will rather go for the dw 5600 thanks.
I am proud to let my 5610 poke out of my shirt sleeve, it shows what a rugged no nonsense guy I am😂
Great deal! I don’t have that model!! Yet
✌🏼😎👍🏼
This is my fav circle g shock, fits better on small wrists than the 6900
I bought this very watch for a Secret Santa in December for $52 (AUD) from Amazon.
I got a blacked out square g for 40 quid before Xmas.
Seems like a better deal to me
One of the G-Shock that issued to new us navy seal candidate.
@1:59 -ish Looks a LOT like Timex's Ironman?
Bought one 2.5 years ago at a US Walmart for $US30! It was a Navy Seal standard issue for a number of years. It’s my go to for working out, outdoor chores and cycling! Ugly but really well made!
I bought one of these models last February on eBay for $32 plus shipping. It was less than $40 when I checked out. I like it but I wear my Origin and my other gshock square models more.
Got that dw-9052 for around 25$ on clearance at Walmart 🙋🤷♂️🤷♂️
Digital Erebus on its way after the quartz haha
Wal-Mart in the USA have a table full of G shocks for $29.98 to let you know.
Hilarious. Those pusher covers remind me of that weird robot from Buck Rodgers....
Still available as at 5:30 pm on 1 Feb 2025. Free delivery with Prime thrown in for the month!
For the U.S., the DW5600E-1V can be had, brand new, for $3 more -- ships and sold by Wal-Mart. I'd stick to that unless you just want to be ugly different and be able to say yours is cheaper (when no one in your life actually cares).
Repeat on the countdown tiner?
The bumper bars are removable and one you do the watch looks like a skull and crossbones
Scored my black gshock gd-350 literally brand new with papers, tin, everything there from my local pawnshop for $50 cash...i think its the best deal ive found so far
i paid 100 bucks for my g shock like 3 years ago still wearing and going strong
It's a nice watch. I had it, but after 2 years, the bumper bars just fell apart. Bought the 5600 instead.
We need you to review a Casio that has a vibrating alarm. I swear by mine, waking up earlier than my wife. Not sure why it’s not a big hit.
I have had this model for well over a decade. I usually don't like the term "beater watch"....but this thing is exactly that. Its been covered with mud, dirt, water, blood, and is still working fine. And should it die...well, cheap to replace!
Replaceability is nice feature. You could get by with a cheap Casio and it will last decades. When it dies you could just get a new one.
It's an excellent g shock. I have the biue variation. $50 on amazon
wow the price is similar to my first G-shock almost 30 years ago XD
It's strange that of all the Casios I've owned over the years, I've never bought a G Shock. I don't know. Maybe I'm afraid that if I owned a G Shock I'd never need another watch.
Acrylic?? I thought all G-Shocks had mineral crystal except the high-end ones with sapphire.
Mineral according to Watch Direct who I've found to have the most accurate specs, like SB. Even Amazon got the description correct this time lol.
ew, i really dont know what to think of the screws at an angle to thold the band on. lol.
Can you set it to normal time display, and not that weird am/pm setting for children and Americans???
