  • The Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, on your UTV or Side-by-Side is comprised of a 17-digit code. This string of numbers and letters identifies specifics about your vehicle like when and where it was manufactured, it's color, or model style. The VIN is also important if you ever need to identify your vehicle if it gets stolen. In this video Chaparral Motorsports points out the most common locations the VIN number is stamped or imprinted on your UTV or SXS.

Hello, in general: within the 17 digit VIN, position numbers 4 through 8 describe the vehicle with such information as the model, body type, transmission type and engine code. In the 10th position, you'll see a letter indicating the model year. Letters from B to Y correspond to the model years 1981 to 2000, from 2001 to 2009, the numbers 1 through 9 were used in place of letters. The alphabet started over from A in 2010 and will continue until 2030.
