Thank you! Bought a 52k mile Hawkeye off of an older couple who didn’t take very good care of it. It’s almost done.

Just did this for the first time yesterday. That lower rear bolt on driver side was a pain , but the rest came right out, I used a 10 mm short socket 1/4 drive on mostly.

Draining the oil is not required to change the valve cover gaskets. Otherwise, good vid, shows all the things very well.

To remove the two electrical connectors next to the fuse box, use some wd-40 penetrant, then use two small flat head screwdrivers, one to hold down the locking pin and one to gently pry the connector apart from the side. I got mine off in 5 mins doing this

You're a life saver, restoring a bugeye and this was something I had a problem with

Glad it helped! One thing to note about the bugeye is that their Valve Cover Gaskets are a different part number than the Hawkeye and they also have a separate gasket for the breather hoses (Links for both are labeled in the description). I'm almost 20k miles out from this repair now and it's still holding up nicely, so really happy with how this went! One nice thing about the bugeyes is that they don't have that stupid air pump getting in the way of the drivers side valve cover.

if you install a different exhaust part. it may increase or decrease heat around the area which can affect plastic parts. in this case, the exhaust melts the half-moons a little bit through extra heat exposure. it happened to me when i put a aftermarket header and uppipe. which donot have heat shields like the factory uppipe and header.

Thanks so much for taking the time to record this. I have attempted this before and it was not easy. I do have to do it again as it is still leaking. You have given me the motivation to do it again!

Glad it helped buddy! Make sure the gasket surface is as clean as possible when you reseal it. You don't want any oil or debris on the surface that could cause it to not seal properly and leak again!

Great video on this installation process. How long did you let it sit before adding oil?

You are supposed to put A thin layer of 3 bond sealant on the gasket

How did you remove those two electrical clips next to the fuse box?

WD-40, a small screwdriver, and a lot of patience haha! You might need to wiggle them back and forth for a while. It took me a long time, but as you can see, eventually they came loose. The joy of working on old cars!

Nice video what curing time did you use for the grey sealant or did you start the car after an hour?
