    Saved me again! I just started the CNC journey, bought the X-Carve, and learned Easel pretty well, but wanted to upgrade to V-Carve, downloaded it, started designing, and plugged in my X-CARVE... I have been struggling for weeks with designing a couple of projects only to save the tool paths and then not being able to find them!😮. I finally watched this and the light bulb went off 🎉. I have spent at least 80 hrs…..seems like…..working on VCarve pro and have yet cut anything!
    If I did find files they were saved as .tap and my gsender was reading them as very small fractions of inches. I hope now I’m on a trail that will get me very productive very soon.
    I have watched so many videos by you and others trying to figure this out. Along the way I have definitely learned a lot and now I think this will be fun!

      Hey Garrett thanks again for your replies. I was able to figure this out by treating my disc stock as a square. I made a 18 inch square on my spoil board and placed my circle stock inside of it similar to how it is set up in vectric. set my X/Y at the lower right hand corner of the square just like in the software. It worked like a charm. The only reason I was able to get that far was from watching you. The success of this project helped me to get over the hump of fear of failure since my very first project stopped 3/4 of the way through and I just kind of gave up. Once I decided to get back on that horse and after learning to set my computer to never sleep it worked out.
      Thanks again for all of the help you offer to all of us in CNC land.
      Wish I could send you a picture just for your opinion.

    When I bought my CNC Router, my plan was to do my drawing and designing in Mastercam and use a suitable post processor. My machine came with V Carve Pro. The machine manufacturer recommended a post processor in the V Carve. Looking in the Mastercam post processor list, I didn't see that post processor. I thought I would try a Generic Fanuc which often works with many machines. When it doesn't though, and you go right to cutting, you can get some not so good results. Dry run it first and see what happens. Still, cutting air without setting off alarms or stopping the machine is no assurance you are using a compatible post processor. Attempting to cut a piece will reveal the incompatibilities and leave you with scrap or possibly a damaged machine.
    So I would import my Mastercam model into Vectric in a compatible cad format and generate my toolpaths in Vectric. That seemed to work OK. Then I began to use Vectric more and more for design, as I became more and more familiar with it. Now I tend to use both software depending on what I'm doing. Still, using the correct post processor is vital. Using the wrong one can drive your machine to do some things you weren't expecting, like getting a different piece then your graphic check is showing. Then you are trying to figure out why you got a piece that looks so different. Something is definitely very wrong. Yes it is, and it may be you are using the wrong post processor for your machine. How do I know that? Um, well, let's just say I know stuff.

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  2 роки тому

      All great points CNC programmer. You are totally right, a good dry run before you do anything is always a good idea.

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  Рік тому

      Simon, a post processor writes gcode in a specific way so that the cnc controller software can interpret it correctly. An extension in your case might mean an additional bit of software built into your controller that you need to purchase before you can use a different software.

So far I've carved my name on a piece of mdf using a GCode file as a post processor in the machine configuration, and that turned out OK. • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  8 місяців тому +1

      navarholmes6358, Using inches or millimeters in CNC routing depends on which system you’re more comfortable with and the standards of the materials and tools you're using. If there's a mismatch between your design and your machine’s settings, like designing in inches but your CNC interprets in millimeters, it’ll throw off your project's dimensions. So, it’s important to keep the same measurement units from design to execution for accuracy.

      Update, I believe I got it installed. I had downloaded the Easel PP and installed it in Vcarve Desktop Trial. I them re-calculated my toolpaths and re-saved. Imported into Easel Pro and sent the job. its the sample Avalon one but it is running. I will definitely like to check out the Wed sessons!!@@IDCWoodcraft

      So the Avalon sample is 2 toolpaths, it went and completed the pocket toolpath and looks great, however it didn't return to start position and hold for bit change. Then I presume I would change my window to the 2nd toolpath and start it up.

    I am using vcarve pro v12. I am also new to cnc routing. I looked at my projects and my post processor type. I have a mis-match. My material setup is inches, my tool is 1/8 inch but my grbl is (mm). That doesn't seem right. Your thoughts? Could explain why my sender software is having weirdness issue. seem logical to use either inches or mm from start to finish.

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  8 місяців тому

      navarholmes6358, Yes, you've pinpointed a common issue that can indeed cause problems. When your material and tool settings are in inches, but your post-processor is set to millimeters, this mismatch can result in incorrect tool movements because the commands sent to the machine are in a different unit of measurement than expected.
      For a cohesive workflow, you should ensure that the units in your Vectric software match the units your machine is set to interpret. If your machine operates in inches, select an inch-based post-processor in VCarve Pro. If your machine operates in millimeters, choose a mm-based post-processor. This ensures that when you create a toolpath in VCarve Pro, the G-code generated will communicate with your machine in the correct units, avoiding any issues during the routing process.

    So once the post processor is set up and selected in vcarve, do I set the toolpath info in vcarve like I did for a shopbot, or do I set up toolpaths in gsender once the project is designed, considering a vcarve pro /Longpath MV2 system.
    Does gsender work under wimdows operating system ir does it use it own. What are the laptop specs needed to run gsender, or am I even using gsender?
    I am totally confused. Purchasing mv2 and vcarve pro soon.. Paul Schuster

Is there a special place needed to download and there must be registration numbers too? paperwork only shows ordered and paid for. Maybe you know where to get it. I emailed Sienci, but it said to expect 1-3 days for a response. I am impatient. Please help if you can. Thank you. I have ran my diy CNC for 14 years on the same post processor but now attempting to run panes with tool change it won’t let me save the file it’s not supported. I went into the system as you describe and found “mach2/3 Arcs (inch) V3 (*.txt)”. There wasn’t a version number in the original. I selected it and it displays as my PP, But the save tool paths is still grayed out. I go back to the save tool path and it didn’t display the new file back to the original file without a version number. I have 3days to run this file what do I need to do to be able to run it.?

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  19 днів тому

      IH1940HAY, It sounds like you're dealing with a compatibility issue between your software and the post processor. Make sure you've set the correct post processor in your CAM software before saving the tool paths. Sometimes it helps to restart the software after making changes. If the option remains grayed out, check if your design file or settings might be causing the issue. Good luck, and I hope you can get it sorted quickly!

      @ I found a local fellow that was knowledgeable with Mach and SS, he got it working again. He didn’t install Smoothstepper he just copied an old backup file and pasted it into the new mach3 file and renamed the extension as a UA-cam poster CorvetteGuy had done and it all works now, plus a few misc things.
      I was successfully able to cut the stable and manger project for church without any problems. But the two signs involving Tiling and Clearing was a whole different ball game, I had used tiling before without any problem but include clearing with so many bit changes on a DIY machine and I gave up. When we get back after the end of the year I’ll tackle it then, and not pressed for time. Thanks.

    if you select GRBL mm instead of inches what effect would it have? (I work in inches)

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  6 місяців тому

      davidorourke9920, Switching to GRBL mm would change the unit of measurement used in the software from inches to millimeters. This means all your measurements and tool paths would be in millimeters instead of inches. Just make sure to adjust your design accordingly when switching between the two units.
