As the owner of a Black 2012 F-150 and as someone who has wanted a Raptor since seeing them years ago, I really appreciated this perspective. I don't worry about treating my truck like a truck, and I probably would if I owned a Raptor. Thanks for the perspective!
It's making sure that what you get YOU own and it doesn't OWN you. I had some motorbikes and cars that i'm like oh no what if it gets scratched? Oh I need to really find some spacious parking, etc, they owned me. Now I have a bike that i just get on, go wherever, do whatever, I own it.
I would say a '22 Lariat cost almost as much as that Raptor. If you won't treat a raptor like a truck I doubt you would treat a Lariat like one. About 2 years ago I was about to buy a 2020 Lariat. They had a 2018 Raptor on the lot with 15K miles on it. I chose the Raptor, Love that truck. I would not say I beat it as hard as my 2010 XLT but I definitely don't baby it. I bought it to drive it and enjoy it on and off road. It goes hunting and gets filthy. You gotta get over what it costs in your head. It's only money.
I loved this! I remember asking a friend to help me move a couch one time because he had a truck and he said he couldn't because it might scratch his bed. I now own a 2004 F150 5.4 v8 that I bought for 2,500 bucks and fixed up and have moved many couches, rocks, bricks, brush, whatever and I admit it has gotten a bit scratched up, and I couldn't be happier. It is currently my favorite TOOL. Something happens to it, oh well, tools are made to be used.
Honestly, the driving around town thing checks out. I have a bright red Audi s5 and I get those same texts all the time. When I drive the other vehicle (Hyundai Elantra) I feel stealthy af. Great move Pete, enjoyed this one 👍🏼
For years my husband and I drove Jeeps. Built them to crawl over things, up rocks, hills.. etc. Last year I felt a change needed to be played big. I didn't want anything to do with Jeeps. Our friends that we met through jeeps were shocked. I wanted a V8 truck power under my foot again. Got a Ram 1500 v8 hemi 4x4. Exhaust was the first thing we did also. Muffler delete with S&B cold air intake and just now installed 6in exhaust tips. Sounds excellent. Love our trucks.👍🏻
Sounds like a great trade was made. Glad they had the black option available. I ordered my '22 Lariat (Charcoal Grey, not black) 5 months ago, and they just let me know they will begin the build next week... This video got me even more stoked!
The best ideas are the ones that don't make sense to anyone. If by luck you are enlightened with the opportunity to have no clear sense but it feels good. This is part of the reason I bought a new 800a base scab raptor in 2019. Cloth seats, and all the equipment I needed. $48,500 out the door, and about $4-5K below sticker as I recall. Love the truck, both on trails and off.

My dad has been driving a 20 year old car for the last....it seems like 20 years haha. I convinced him to get a raptor last summer. He loves it, we drove it on the beach last weekend. It does make you feel bad about using it as a truck though. Hes getting over it slowly though. Hes pumped regardless.

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer. I bought it (slightly) used in 2009. It's paid for. I've done a lot of trips around the state (Washington) for work, yet fortunately my office is at home so no daily commute stress. I'm just now coming up on 150k miles in May 2022 and it runs great, best rig I've ever owned. Oh... but my point is, I call it my truck. It gets no special favors, but we bonded way back then and both love the ride!
100% relate, I’m in the UK so raptors aren’t really a thing. But I have a ranger, and man I love it. It’s my work horse, taking me to and from site loaded with gear, not a care in the world because it’s so solid. I had sporty cars in the past, I just spent all my time worrying about them and buying new tyres, it sucked! Everyone else enjoyed them more than I did. More people need to be honest with themselves, just like you in this video. Respect.
I loved the diamond back cover. Wish that would work with the RV life, but unfortunately, no. I just went through something similar. We had a f-250 Platinum with Fox shocks and 37 tires. Beautiful truck. But it wasn't right for pulling our RV, and I started having issues with wind. I had to change trucks for the safety of my family and our home, on wheels.
I have a loaded 2016 lariat and absolutely love it. I do want to upgrade the shocks with Falcon to level it out and give it better control while towing though. Great truck though.

I have just about the same truck! Black Lariat and all (interior & exterior), but a 2021 w/ a 6.5 foot bed. Upgraded from a purple 1995 f150 single cab, as my newborn son couldn’t really ride in that lol, so I feel you on people knowing where you are at all times. Didn’t even consider the raptor as I got a skid steer that needs towing from time to time, which with trailer is 10k+ lb lol. Plus it was too much money 😂 congrats on the new truck!

I dearly miss owning them, use to haul my boat no prob or take us out into the desert for an evening BBQ easily. I've love one in UK except they wouldn't fit being 2.2m wide and 6m long (makes a RR look small) and with the UK fuel prices... 10mpg is no fun on the wallet

I work at a Ford dealer (for like 1 month now lol) and I grew up Chevy cause my dad but I have been obsessing over the Raptor for like 3 months now. I really don't know why. BUT those fully loaded Lariats.....they can scoot. You hear the turbo whistle back at ya with the windows down, they're comfy, the sound blaring your tunes is great, life is good lol. BUT THAT EXHAUST IS DIRTY PETE O_O

I had considered wrapping my Gen 1 Raptor the same color orange as the Gen 3 but didn’t for this exact reason. My truck stands out enough already. Congrats on the Lariat. Still a badass truck! Hope you still add your own flare to it!
Drones less than the raptor did on quiet mode. So, I am happy :) It's also louder and got better tone. Prob cause of the v8 :) As Howard said, civilized hahaha

I have a 2nd gen super cab Raptor and I use it like a truck. Not like a contractor, mind you, but I haul stuff in it multiple times a week. I’m still careful and spend a little extra time making sure stuff isn’t going to scratch the paint and dent the bed, but I use it.
My husband and I both drive F150s, he drives a fully loaded Lariat and I drive an XLT sport that’s a couple of years older. And honestly, I get it. He’s so precious with his Lariat, by comparison my truck isn’t quite as luxurious but it’s used like a truck. I’ve crammed small bales of straw in the bed, I keep two dog crates permanently installed in the back of the crew cab for my working dogs, it drives to farms, and it actually leaves the road at least once a week to drive out into a field somewhere. I love my truck because I have everything I need in it, I can trust it to get me where I need to go in rural Canada even if the weather isn’t great, and I’m not afraid to get it a little dirty. But do I like the Lariat for date night? I sure do 🤣

Makes me wonder about tires I should even get next since I don’t do off-roading. Again makes total sense why you went backwards in a sense if you’re road driving only but want the feel of a truck still

2017 fully loaded Lariat checking in. Several of my coworkers have had their moon-roofs fail though. Mine's still good. Just keep an eye on it.

First thing I did to my truck was a flow master. You never, never regret a good sounding muffler.
Your choice makes perfect sense. I own a mid trim 19 F-150 and I don’t have to worry about beating on it. Trucks are meant to be used 🤘

Pete, I did the same thing at one point, it lasted all of about 6 months and then I was back in another Raptor 😂
