I'm Bengali. Despite the fact that my father did not like what the Pakistani army did during the war, he always told me that both he and most Bengalis at the time did not want to separate from Pakistan. It was the youth at the time that were brainwashed by Indian propaganda and Sheikh Mujeeb who eventually made it illegal to challenge anything he says. India (according to my father) took advantage of a conflict between two brother nations. Most of the older folks from my family that I speak to all say the same thing-that they never wanted to become a totally separate country. It makes sense because imagine what can be achieved as a single Muslim nation; East & West Pakistan! Though transgressions may have taken place the past is gone and I hope the future brings back good relations between two brother nations Inshallah

Millions of afghans not only live in Pakistan, but especially in Karachi and Quetta, the 4th generation of afghans are multi billionaires because they do business and they don't do jobs. Pakistani government has just put pressure on afghans to get visa , and most of them already have Pakistani citizenship, I have numerous rich afghan friends who's grandfather migrated in 70s or 80s and they are Pakistani citizens. Currently 5 million afghans are living in Pakistan. 2 millions Burmese and 3 million bangalis. I myself belong to NGO sector so I am sharing first hand knowledge. Ironically one of the best writers of Indian independence history Istiaq Ahmed is a Muslim. Muslim League ( not Pakistan Muslim League) was established in Dhaka in 1905. Later they expanded to all over India. However, the Ashraf Muslims of Northern and North Western India always looked down upon the lesser bred dark and short Bengali Muslims after creation of Pakistan. Their refusal to share power with East Pakistanis eventually led to Marshall law and genocide of 1971 and finally secession of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Although Islamists are calling shots in Bangladesh now after grabbing power, the troubled history and refusal of Pakistan to apologize will make the ties tenuous. Let’s wait and watch.

Bangladesh has the right Government in place but for this to work Pakistan needs a real statesman like Imran Khan in charge as opposed to the usual suspects who simply live off the misery of their own people and treat Pakistan like a personal bank account.
Likewise they will treat Bangladesh as same. They will take advantage of anti India sentiment and might even amplify that. I do not know about this wise man, but he have a precise understanding of Bangladesh’s history and politics. As a Bangladeshi, I assure you, all his statements reflect the true scenario. Also his suggestions about strengthening our relationship are indeed valuable. However, I disagree with his vision of the one-nation theory, it might have been possible before 1971, but it’s no longer feasible. I lost my father after the war and before I was born, he was killed by a local Hindu guy who went to India and came back after the war, who started showing their color with the Indian hegemony, right after the war. If the war didn't happen, I wouldn't have lost my father before I was born and could have had a normal life. It could have been politically resolved. The war in 1971 was a direct consequence of Indian politics and plans, blunder of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Yahya Khan and Sheikh Mujib's greed for power, his betrayal and his Agartala Conspiracy in my opinion. P.S: I do not hold the entire Hindu community liable for the devastation that I and my family suffered.

East Pakistan represented the truer essence of Pakistan, and we were a shadow of its ideological stature. Losing East Pakistan was not just a territorial loss, it was the loss of our very soul. The last fifty years have been a testament to how far we've strayed ideologically and how much stronger and united Bangladesh has gotten in those terms. Now, with Bangladesh extending warmth towards us, I feel that Pakistan has an opportunity to reclaim the ideological grounding it lost. I personally believe, India as a state should respect Bangladesh's sovereignty first by showing non-interference towards Bangladesh's diplomatic linkups. This raises suspicion that Yunus’s government is using anti-India groups to pressure India into negotiations. Despite Yunus inviting Modi for talks multiple times, Modi didn’t respond, as he seems to favor Hasina over the Bangladeshi people. As citizens, we can’t fully trust either side.
I will never forget India’s help during 1971. I always oppose pro-Pakistan groups that deny India’s contributions. Without India, my ancestors might not have survived.

I'm Bengali. Despite the fact that my father did not like what the Pakistani army did during the war, he always told me that both he and most Bengalis at the time did not want to separate from Pakistan. It was the youth at the time that were brainwashed by Indian propaganda and Sheikh Mujeeb who eventually made it illegal to challenge anything he says. India (according to my father) took advantage of a conflict between two brother nations. Most of the older folks from my family that I speak to all say the same thing-that they never wanted to become a totally separate country. It makes sense because imagine what can be achieved as a single Muslim nation; East & West Pakistan! Though transgressions may have taken place the past is gone and I hope the future brings back good relations between two brother nations Inshallah

Millions of afghans not only live in Pakistan, but especially in Karachi and Quetta, the 4th generation of afghans are multi billionaires because they do business and they don't do jobs.
Pakistani government has just put pressure on afghans to get visa , and most of them already have Pakistani citizenship, I have numerous rich afghan friends who's grandfather migrated in 70s or 80s and they are Pakistani citizens.
Currently 5 million afghans are living in Pakistan. 2 millions Burmese and 3 million bangalis. I myself belong to NGO sector so I am sharing first hand knowledge.

Muslim League ( not Pakistan Muslim League) was established in Dhaka in 1905. Later they expanded to all over India. However, the Ashraf Muslims of Northern and North Western India always looked down upon the lesser bred dark and short Bengali Muslims after creation of Pakistan. Their refusal to share power with East Pakistanis eventually led to Marshall law and genocide of 1971 and finally secession of Bangladesh from Pakistan.
Although Islamists are calling shots in Bangladesh now after grabbing power, the troubled history and refusal of Pakistan to apologize will make the ties tenuous. Let’s wait and watch.

Bangladesh has the right Government in place but for this to work Pakistan needs a real statesman like Imran Khan in charge as opposed to the usual suspects who simply live off the misery of their own people and treat Pakistan like a personal bank account.
Likewise they will treat Bangladesh as same. They will take advantage of anti India sentiment and might even amplify that. Bangladesh’s relations with India is more important than Pakistan, as India supplies cheaply transported most food products.

I still remember seeing my late father's Pakistan passport when I was very little. I lost my father after the war and before I was born, he was killed by a local Hindu guy who went to India and came back after the war, who started showing their color with the Indian hegemony, right after the war. If the war didn't happen, I wouldn't have lost my father before I was born and could have had a normal life. It could have been politically resolved. The war in 1971 was a direct consequence of Indian politics and plans, blunder of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Yahya Khan and Sheikh Mujib's greed for power, his betrayal and his Agartala Conspiracy in my opinion. P.S: I do not hold the entire Hindu community liable for the devastation that I and my family suffered.

More importantly, India and America are not on a honey moon. It’s a proper understood relationship. Remember 1971, USA never moved its Naval fleet, despite Ayub Khan’s honeymoon at its peak. In fact India was fully relying on Russian equipments and support.
Today India is too big to be ignored. Definitely, for Bangladesh, surrounded from 85% of its land mass, India is not just important, it is the truth!

We see Pakistan as a brotherly nation. India is a common threat to Bangladesh, Pakistan, and other South Asian countries. Though we are divided by borders, we are united by Islam and culture.
India has harmed Bangladesh’s democracy, justice, economy, and culture, especially through Sheikh Hasina. Most Bangladeshis dislike India because of its actions.
