Does All the lumber from this mill go to pellets? Is Aspen used for anything other than pallets? We have Aspen trees down here, however they are very small.
We pull all the grade lumber of any species we cut we do select and better and we put 15% 1com in those piles Then after it’s kiln dried it’s re graded The 2-3 common goes to pallets The Select aspen all goes to trim and mouldings in houses but 7 feet and longer only because a door is 7 feet Aspen is a high end lumber most trim in houses is made out of it We have a kiln dried department and also a flooring plant so really no lumber cut by us is used for pallets. But sometimes with hardwood. We will do 4” lumber and 6” wide lumber that is sold green piled tight for pallets But 90% of the time the lumber is all kiln dried then. Re graded and sold for grade lumber or flooring
Right now tho pretty much all our lumber from this mill 4/4 and 5/4. Is being made into pointed garden stakes for the farmers they are selling like crazy. Any species they make them as short as 24 inches and as long as 72 inches and everything in between so there’s not much waste and I can leave more wane on the lumber than usual But the big bandsaw mill all grades are separated like in a normal mill
Yes they were patented 30 years ago patent ran out on the old stickers there’s a new design now. But others are allowed to make them now. They were the first original wooden drying sticks
Especially fresh cut cottonwood the last few days that’s what I been cutting it is just like a big rock will break sawbits right off .. those cottonwood are so wet in the first place then they get cut down all that water inside freezes solid and they are so heavy. Some of the 25” logs and bigger try to knock the carriage off the track when loading them it’s just a really bad time to be cutting it. Our big sawdust bin. We have to dump it on the ground every night. It can hold 180 yards of sawdust. And has frozen into one big block of sawdust before chunks the size of transport trucks lol
Those bundles you see sitting outside need to be notched and they get cut fresh solid gotta bust them apart feed them into the notcher but when they come out the other side. They are frozen back together already Slows down production as well. Just can’t push the saw as hard I don’t like breaking stuff
Again! Jason Nichols would be proud of you!!!!! Dan

Do you make your own stickers? ( board separator s)?

It’s so cold the sawdust freezes in the air before it hits the ground. With the wind chill -20 Celsius

You don't seem to have very much snow on the ground. We have a significant snowfall for the first time in 16 years.
We got our first little bit of snow this Saturday morning but 45 minutes north of here got a ton of snow. It has just been unbelievably cold
Sawing frozen logs is not a fun thing. Stay safe as all sort of bad shit could go down!
