    That policeman at Leeds was spot on. Standing was safe. Hillsborough wasn’t caused by the terrace as such, it was caused by police incompetence and design flaws at that end of the ground.

    There’s a special place for people like middup and Wright. It’s not a nice place.

    l'll never forget this....l'm now 43.....l was an 11 years old LFC fan in 1989 in growing up in london. All l remember. was that l was about to go out to my friends house , when i put the BBC ceefax on my tv to see the score. and i will never forget it saying that the game had been delayed after six mins due to overcrowding. l remember thinking what was this?. and as i've put it back on onto BBC grandstand, they've gone to the breaking story at hillsborough and john motson who was commentating on the game for match of the day that same night, i remember vaguely him started saying that something has gone wrong with the liverpool fans at that end of the ground. and i saw on the tv people being pulled from the crowd, people's faces being pushed up against the metal fences, then seeing it looked like people lying on the ground, and then l began after a few seconds to realise what was going on, and it really looked bad. l then shouted out my parents in their room saying that something's going on at the liverpool game. their's overcrowding and people on the pitch. they came in to see what was going on, and they were in shock when they saw the live scenes that was unfolding on the television....An horrible, horrific and tragic day for everyone connected to football

      As soon as my dad and I found out that it was at the leppings lane end and saw those awful pictures on the tv we knew it was overcrowding. We had been there 2 months before the disaster, to see United play Sheffield wednesday and it was packed that day. We got directed to the pen in the corner, next to the banked terrace, because the central tunnel was closed off. We thought that was the only way onto the terrace as we couldn’t see signs for any other way to access it. That was about 2:45-2:50 I would say. I remember my dad saying how stupid it was, the lack of direction, to the other entrances onto the other parts of the leppings lane terrace. All it would have taken was someone with big bits of white card and a black marker pen writing direction signs showing where the entrances to pens 1 and 2 and 6 and 7 were. Would have cost pennies.

    Its quite breathtaking how ignorant paul middup is at 17:26 , since when did a group of police officers get trampled to death at a football match , middup’s contribution here should be used as a public safety training video like you see with fire safety video’s that security guards and such watch to help prevent fire’s , in this case here public crowd safety training and the prevention of arrogant and plain stupid policing , how were those liverpool fans at the gate to know that pens 3 and 4 were already dangerously crowded .

    • @mrkipling2201
      @mrkipling2201 3 роки тому +4

      Exactly. Pens 3 and 4 should have been closed off at half 2 as they were already full then. Then gate C could have been opened and the fans directed to pens 1, 2, 6 and 7. There was 2 disasters on the cards that day. One was averted by opening gate C but it unfortunately caused the other one. By the incompetence of the police. Especially Duckenfield, who thought he knew best, when in fact he knew nothing.

      @@mrkipling2201 i've read from your posts that you've been there so not pretending to tell you anything but sheffield wednesday fc surely were incompetent too , the directional signs inside the gate looked completely inadequate , this is a ground used for one of the biggest matches in the then calendar and they couldn't even invest in decent directional signs for visiting fans unfamiliar with that end , and their stewards should have been employed too that surely would have been a huge help , where were they .

      @@breadandcircuses9967 I totally agree. The least they could have done is got some big white sheets of card and black marker pens and made some temporary signs directing the fans to the side pens. It would have cost pennies but probably would have saved lives.

    Of course the Forest fans were in the ground way before the Liverpool fans, they had 60 turnstiles compared to Liverpool’s 23 turnstiles. With only 7 malfunctioning turnstiles to let the 10,100 Liverpool fans on the leppings lane terrace!!!

    • @stickytapenrust6869
      @stickytapenrust6869  3 роки тому +3

      Their turnstiles were also new electronic ones, so were much faster than the old mechanical ones at the LL end, which kept getting jammed. I think the LL turnstiles were the originals installed when the ground was built!

      That’s right. They said that Liverpool fans were travelling from the north so they would arrive at Leppings lane first and the Forest fans were coming from the south so they would arrive at the Kop end first.
