Cornwell is concerned to make his historical background accurate and it is reflected in his books, without letting it compromise a good yarn. 18th century England was astonishingly corrupt, a little less so in the regency period. It was not until the Victorian period and the technocratic necessity of industrialisation that brought it under control (machines don’t work with lies).
I always quite liked the idea of Sharpe taking command of a Rifle Battalion in America. He could have taken Harper, his remaining Riflemen, and any of the last men of the first battalion with him.
I’ve reread Waterloo probably 4 or 5 times and revenge at least three, but I hadn’t heard this one in years. Without wanting to spoil anything I’ll just say I had forgotten how impulsively he proposed to Jane. She is no Theresa or Lucile. She sounds smokin though.🥳

Sharpe should have asked to be made Lt. Col AND given the Regiment from Lord Fenner. His fortune lost when his first wife died should have been resolved and given back to SHARPE. Girdwood should have been reduced to Major and then have his life miserable when arriving in Spain.Additionally, two new sets of uniforms for him and Sgt Major Harper and a pair of horses for both him and Sgt Major Harper. New sets of uniforms for Private Harris, Hagman and Perkins. Fair and reasonable.
The British government doesn't work like that, never has been never is that generous. In terms of rewards HMG has compared to other governments, a notably mean record.
Every hero needs something greater than themselves, a weakness, a vulnerability, something they are not skilled at. It’s what makes them human so we can identify with them and so learn from them. If not you are just Rey.
"He's.gone to London." Sharp remembered Sir Henry saying as much over Marriott's body.
He cut the cheese.
Interesting analysis of the 19th century English society....

The flashman papers
@@edforbes1563 Flashman is also my favorite...

Except things went pretty badly for us there.
@@edforbes1563 Yes and no. Britain had some success, burning the White House and recovering some pride. Canada remained within the Empire.

I doubt they'd want to give up the original green jackets
You'll have to write your own books.
@@albanfisher6857 keep the green jackets, just give them new ones.

Dream on lad!
God save Ireland! 🤣💪
At the age of 36, Sharpe should understand women. But he still acts like he is 20.
Love can make one blind, hopeful, irrational, naive. Ain’t love grand?
It's often the blind spot for "action" novelists. Every woman has wanted Sharpe and yet he's still such a tart.
Battle must keeps one young!!!
I'm 74 and still do not understand women

Didn't the Sgt. Finch become Capt. Finch a few times during the hunt for Harper?
