Haven't seen any new videos for a while. I hope your channel isn't spinning down. You have come up with some clever solutions, and I would love to see more.
Hey mrdewilliams :) Thanks for the kind comment. Really; notes like this fuel me in a way you would not imagine. Your observations are true, and I apologize for my silent/mysterious disappearance. I've been feeling more than guilty about it, but what's been is past, and the best I can do is try to be better going forward. Allow me to try: There will be absolutely more videos - this you can count on! At this point, I've acknowledged a setback due to a few sponsored releases, which looking back on, were a compromise to my personal values. I've been in my head a lot these days, but want to get back out there. This said, I know wanting (dreaming) is different from doing (acting), but I believe I'm working up the confidence to get back out there. Thank you (so much) for your support: that of the past, and this commitment to the future. It really means a lot to me. Meanwhile, I hope I can continue to share happiness through my videos. Best, Kriss.
Hey Kriss, I couldn't agree more with mrdewilliams. I have missed your clever, innovative and creative videos. I'm hoping that you still have plans to get back in the saddle to inspire, entertain and educate us soon. I'm wondering if you are still using the full face mask approach for dust protection and what your thoughts are about it at this point. Thanks Kriss and all the best going forward.
@@toolify Couldn't agree more with OP. So a few words of encouragement: you're a killer engineer and a very inventive person. If you could find the time and energy, this channel may grow a lot because your content is so incredibly original. Since I am actually woodworking instead of watching UA-cam for entertainment, I find even more pleasure in your videos.
2019 A new year and a perfect opportunity to start in with some new videos... 👍
Hey Chris, hope you’re doing well ! We miss you 🙂
It's a shame you gave up on UA-cam. Your videos are good.
When I installed such dampeners I found out they should be closer to the hinges (~1/3 of door width from the hinges). In this case they would be even less noisy and you wouldn't even hear the initial contact of the door and the dampener.
Did they work well? Suitable for drawers as well?
Hey!
Hope you are doing great and that you are well. We miss you here on YB.
Hi Kriss,
You're one of my favorite channels and I hope you'll be able to upload new content soon.
Your videos are very well made with relaxed narration and ton of great information.
And scrolling through the comments I see this is not my opinion only.
Best,
Andrea
Great idea. Why not drill 2 holes in guide for when fitting to double doors and save having to move guide?
I was hesitant to get similar style push to open pistons, but your simple jig gave me confidence in trying them out. Thank you.
I bought plenty of those for a kitchen remodeling project in the US (US style cabinets, crappy hinges), and truth is, they don't hold well overtime! After a year or so, they tend to not soft anything anymore, and in your case, you end up with front holes in the cabinets. I strongly recommend, for future projects with European style cabinets, to buy instead some utrusta style hinges from Ikea (actually made by Blum), with their door dampers. It will cost you $12,00 for a pair of them including dampers if you buy them in an Ikea store (so not cheap) but they will last forever. I've used them for years now, never had any issue. Plus no retrofit, just replace the hinges and you're done.
With that said, I still love you videos :-) Keep them coming!!
Miss your channel. Hope you make a "comeback" video soon.
Nice. I like the clean look of the install.
Hey, Chris! Pssssst! Wake up! It's 2020 and the world is waiting for more creative solutions than ever. You da man! Whassup? I hope all is well ???
Those are a really neat product. I am the purchasing agent at Nordic Tugs, and we actually use the Euro hinges, similar to the ones on your cabinet doors, with Blumotion dampers built in.
Question, I thought the dampers were meant to be put on the hinge side area? Have you tried these on that end? Or did you put them all on the opposite side? Or is it just preference? I’m trying to be discreet about it and clearly I’m “new” lol
high five for watching was so sudden that I ended up laughing. Thanks for the good laugh and diy. :) Hope you still enjoy uploading new videos.
I've bought my dampers at IKEA and never installed them as the damper-holders (all plastic) didn't convince me and they were ugly too. Never thought about this solution! Thanks a lot for the video! I'll install them straight away
Must push damper. So satisfying :)
I appreciate how you explained how the dampener works! Great job!!!🤘🏼
Hoping you'll post more soon!
High 5 for 4 Low noise doors...! I have used the Ikea version, with great succes. I take my customers there, and for the lower cabinets, we always end up picking drawers wherever we can. It's nice that the content comes out to you...!
Replaced a Brocken hinge with t t soft close hinge a few years ago and I really like it, but haven't converted very the rest of the kitchen due to price. I think I can get my whole kitchen done for the price of one or two hinges if I go this route. Thanks for sharing.
Very helpful!
Are you coming back?
Great video. What was the layout tool used making your jig???Thanks
Would this work in a pocket door?
i like the jig, i like the product and i like the idea of adding this to the list of fixes and such that i do to extract dollars from people by earning it!
thanks for the post
Cool idea, easy and effective. Thanks.
Glad I found your channel , nice job.
Nice. Not new, but nice! I have a similar thing in my kitchen that was installed in 2004. So good to make a jig.
When you flip the piece from the drill press it kinda looks like the bit didn't come out on center of block haha
what would happen if you did NOT use the guide??
Congratulations!!! We don't find this here in Brazil. Best wishies from Brazil.
kriss you can get Blum hinges with integrated blumotion. We've had them here for years they should've made it stateside by now
Where do you get your clamps? Especially the levered ones? Ah...never mind. I didn't succeed at first, so I read the directions! Found your links.
Come back Kriss.........
Kriss where you at bloke? Enjoy your vids, come back
Awesome video
Cool little product but I would like to know what the long term durability would be like before I started drilling large holes in my cabinets.
Ok, now that has me thinking about how to make a DIY version :)
John Heisz can't wait to see the video!
That would be really cool!
Hi, just saw the come-back of David Waelder and wondered & worried how you are? All the best & love from Switzerland.
Just had to search up and watch that video. Wow - I had the pleasure of meeting David a few years back and he is one of the funniest, most witty people I know. About me: no need to worry! I'm happy and well. I've come to be really passionate about my work recently and have been putting more energy into that. I stand by my promise that I'll be back to making videos one day, but I'm not sure when. I've found that life is unpredictable and it's important to allow for spontaneity. Right now I'm following some different dreams, but don't worry -- Toolify is not forgotten. Thank you for thinking of me, and for the love. Best, love, -Kriss
@@toolify Are you coming back? we miss you ...;-p
New subscriber. Marius sent me.
Are you sure these don't go hinge side? All my blumotion kitchen cabinets (prebuilt) have these (similar, not exact style) on the hinge side.
Yes - they have both hinge side (970A) and handle side (970) mount models. I used the handle-side variety here.
are these dampers ment to be installed on the far end of the doors? because all of them i have seen usually are install in the inner side of the door where the hinge is at so that it soft closes the door and dont go fast then slow it down al of a sudden?
Yes, the ones I purchased were meant for the far end. They've got models for both far-side and near-side application.
Seems like you could damage the cabinet just installing the cylinders
Hi! Great idea! Is the order code blum 970.1002?
Those are hideous. You should have used the Blum that attach near the hinge so you don't see them. They are cheap, easy to install and not very visible.
Gadzooks's !!! Did you hit the "Festool" lottery? Or is Uncle Fester Festool helping you out? Besides that you do a great job explaining, building, videoing and making the subject matter interesting.
konaok1 No. his father owns Festool.
Well I did learn something new from today's video. Festool make drill bits that lock into their drill chucks. Very cool.
and now no one can tell when you are sneaking into the treat cabinet.....lol.
haha, yes. That's exactly what I was going for xD
The slam sound is still present with your installation. Mounting it around the point of pivot is recommended to keep that sound from being there. Your installation is a great idea but needs to be tweaked a little. Thanks for the advice on how to build a proper jig.
Nice job Kriss. Where do you find these things? Great video as always.
using hot glue instead of cllamps could have sped the process up a bit while still being able to reuse the board(s) for another project.
shocking fitting of the knobs on the right though ; P
Hey. I miss your crazy clean worksbop and amazing skills. Your one of the smartest you tube woodguys out there, ! Hope you get back on the horse and share more awesome stuff. That said, you say cabinet funny. I will however allow it in your case :)
Are you doing a voice over for pizza pizza in Ontario right now??
Err, not that I know of!
By the way.....owning a lot of Festool doesn't mean your dad is a millionaire! I personally own a lot of Festo & Festool devices and a few were bought second hand! Didn't buy them in one day! Some of them are almost 20 years old and still work fine👍🏻
I see you have a Norwalk Juicer
inch is such a silly unit.. 0 5/8 wtf
👍
why didn't you just change one hinge to a softclose hinge on each door?
www.blum.com/us/en/01/20/30/
$4.0 each one + $4.51 shipping... Just for the kitchen, I'll more than 20... To expansive.
I like the idea. For a slightly more expensive option and if you have a similar inside cabinet mount. I replaced the hinge on the door side with these. www.amazon.com/Pairs-Blum-Blumotion-Hydraulic-Compact/dp/B01LZZU3VI/
No drilling. just reusing the same screw holes.

😶😶🌫🌹
did he say the dampers sell a guide with all the (balls) not bells & whistles? lol oh i bet he wants them balls deff seems like a balls and whistles kind of guy lol
please return!! maybe you can sell your nut jig and make a good money.
I think most people watching this are over 3 years old. You don't have to talk so properly and so slowly. It makes watching the whole thing painful.
Silas Taze I respectfully disagree. I like that I don't have to struggle to understand his videos.
Silas Taze I'm 2 3/4 years old so it helps us in the minority out.
Speaking of speaking properly, did you notice he used 'comprise' correctly?
Why u quit your channel? Thousands of dollars in tools that sponsors gave u. And u up and quit. I saw u said you where coming back. But then u never followed thru with that commitment.
