  • Hi everyone,
    Today we are reviewing and comparing the Puma Nitro lineup for 2021, with the Liberate (110€), the Velocity (120€) and the Deviate (160€).
    Note that the shoes run a bit long so I'd recommend going a half-size down if you don't like a roomy fit.
    PLEASE make sure you SUBSCRIBE! :-)

    Brilliant review, Alex. I subscribed to your channel today. Hurray for Puma for bringing us this exciting lineup. I've ordered a pair of the Liberate. Never owned a shoe this light or responsive.
    I'm 73 years old and trying hard to maintain that running life I have always enjoyed in spite the challenges of aging. Maybe I can achieve a 26 minute 5k with the Liberate. Thanks.

    Nice review of the Nitro lineup. I heard good thing, so I bought the Velocity. I was surprised when running in it just how good it felt! The grip is outstanding also. Liberate is interesting, but Im not really looking for a 5k/racing flat sort of shoe.

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for commenting, Kevin! Glad you're enjoying the Velocity. How do you use it? You would be surprised by how versatile the Liberate is for a shoe marketed as a racing flat. It can do way more than this and certainly isn't limited to short distances/fast paces. Rare versatility for such a light, smooth, and flexible shoe!

      @@AlexFilitti Interesting to hear, Im using the Velocity as a daily trainer as sort, but strugglingly to keep it as that, as the shoe just wants to pick up the pace abit, so tending to be more tempo as the shoe keeps pushing me on!!

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому +1

      For that the Liberate is quite similar. Nitro foam is really a good features which gives all of these shoes the ability and willingness to increase paces. But at slower paces it also works nicely, especially on the Velocity

    Cracking video Alex, i agree with you with regards the deviate. Whatever I’ve tried I can’t get a decent lockdown in the deviates! The deviates are a good daily trainer, or for uptempo days, however I wouldn’t use them to race in. After your video I’m going to take a chance on the liberates

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому

      Hi Thomas,
      The Boston falls actually right in between the Velocity and the Liberate. Liberate is a bit more fun, lighter, has more ground feel and is really a « different » shoe compared to most cool shoes that are released these days. Velocity is more stable than a Boston, but also quite heavier. More versatile and durable though. Both are good choices!

    I’m glade puma is putting a lot of effort into their nitro series of shoes......I’ve always thought of puma as a soccer ⚽️ brand or futbal for you international readers.....however I hope this a good turning point for puma and markets more towards runners......I’m turn between the deviate or the liberate but will be buying 1 or the other maybe have both later on I usually run 12 miles for my long runs. So maybe the deviate?

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому

      Hi Eyevin! Yes I agree, football/soccer and formula 1 also. They are really introducing a nice lineup with the Nitro shoes and I'm looking forward to seeing how that lineup evolves with time. I would go with the deviate indeed, but Velocity could be a solid choice too. Deviate fit was too poor for me to enjoy the shoe properly I think. Keep in mind that all of them run long so consider going half a size down ;-) Let us know which one you end up picking and how you enjoy it! Take care

    I have both the Float Ride Energy 3.0 and the Velocity Nitro. The Velocity is just better, I can go at any speed I want, it's just a shoe I can put on and not think what I want to do. The float ride although lighter but is nowhere close to the speeds I can hit with the Velocity and especially as it's rainy here, the grip from the Velocity is just fantastic, I do get a better lockdown with the Float ride but I have no issue with slippage using the Velocity.

    ... very true the deviate does not lockdown specially the back heel keeps popping up n down with each step although the pop n bounce is the most responsive also the thickness , velocity on the other hand has a far better lockdown , good pop n bounce , better stability and greater softer cushioning illusive to the deviate therefore my choice , unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to try the liberate ..

    Very interesting and through review Alex. Thinking of getting the Velocity Nitro how does the fit compare with the Endorphin Speed which fits me perfectly is it narrower.

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you, Keith! The upper of the Velocity feels « heavier » but otherwise it is similar on the width. The length however is longer than the Speed for the same sizes. It was fine for me but if you would like something more snug than 1/2 size down would do the trick well!

  • @karltbui
    @karltbui 2 роки тому

    So Alex did not distinguish the shoes exactly. Here's the deal. The Liberate is ONLY Nitro. There is no ProFoam whatsoever. That is why it is so light. Without the ProFoam, you can feel the Nitro and how soft it is. The other shoes have ProFoam to add a little stability to the heel strike and a little rigidity at the push off. You do not want your feet to push off gelatin all the time. Biomechanically, it is better to push off with rigidity. So I do like the Liberate for light training but the Velocity is the best of the three.

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much for the nice comment. It's likely one of the most durable shoe I tested this year, the outsole seems very sturdy and the upper while thin will probably go the distance too. The first thing that will likely loose freshness is the nitro foam but overall I'm confident you can go past 600 miles with this pair. I'd be curious to hear from you on the durability if you go above that mileage! Thanks again and take care

    What do you think abou the durability of nitro foam ? How many miles do you think it will retain the bounce, Especially for Velocity?

    • @AlexFilitti
      @AlexFilitti  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Shrajesh! Good question. The foam as such will certainly loose most of its bounce as of 300-400miles. But on the Velocity, the fact that there is the EVA insert and the fact that the Nitro foam is « encapsulated » by the outsole may help the shoe go past 500miles (800-900kms) without much issue. I hope this helps! 🙂
