    That’s how I got started. I just taught a beginning Astrophotography class to 4H students in our local Astronomy outreach at a local college. We all had a lot of fun then went outside to view the night sky with telescopes. I am with the Tacoma Astronomical Society.

    2 years ago, I got really interested in taking aurora pictures, but I would have to travel far to do that. Then the pandemic came and I never was able to make the trip.
    This year I've been learning about astrophotography and I want to start with what I currently have.... my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Every time I've tried to take pictures, clouds popped up, but tomorrow I'm going to a dark sky location for the first time and it says 0% clouds for 2 days. I'm going to try longer exposure pictures (20 - 30 seconds), but I want to try using 1 second exposure pictures and stack them.
    Once I master using my Smartphone, then I want to move to a Telescope setup with tracker, but it's going to be a lot of money.

    • @HelenasAstrophotography
      @HelenasAstrophotography  2 роки тому +1

      A smartphone is an excellent way to start and is more than enough to get you hooked! All you need to remember is to put the phone on a tripod and set it to a timer to avoid shake and you are winning :)

      Before you buy a telescope look at mounts because a shakyscope isn't helpful. I use an Explore Scientific Twilight AZ manual mount for my 150mm f5 Newtonian. Depending on my magnification I take 1 to 3 second exposures. I mostly just observe, but I'll take pictures sometimes to put up on FB.

    6:55 The EOS 1100D (unmodded) was also my first astro-camera, but unfortunately, I can't get a Bortle 2 sky anywhere in my vicinity. Bortle 5 is standard here. :-(

    • @HelenasAstrophotography
      @HelenasAstrophotography  2 роки тому +1

      1100D is a very underrated beginner camera! Bortle 5 is very workable, using solutions such as clip in light pollution filters will help to bring the deep space object out from the city lights.

    • @jacekruzyczka3058
      @jacekruzyczka3058 2 роки тому

      @@HelenasAstrophotography I do use a UHC clip-on filter when photographing nebulae, but when trying to photograph those ones, which never rise more than, say, 35° over the horizon (the Trifid, for instance), the filter won't longer help you, especially when the light pollution comes from broadband LED units.

    Very cool that you guys got to meet in Scotland!
    Question though: What is the site you're using for the screenshots around 9:32 where it projects a FOV over the night sky to help with composition? I feel like I've seen this tool in Nico's videos before too but haven't had luck with google searches or going through his old vids.

    • @HelenasAstrophotography
      @HelenasAstrophotography  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you so much! Ah! I should’ve noted that in the video. The website is called ‘Telescopius’ but there are various other options too. I know Nico uses ‘Black Water Skies’ 🙂

    • @HelenasAstrophotography
      @HelenasAstrophotography  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Ribhav, I have had major exams on since January and as a student it's hard to find the time to post! These videos are a lot of work to put together, especially with the editing. It would be different if this was my full time job, however it isn't and I have to prioritise my education.

    • @MysteryMan101
      @MysteryMan101 2 роки тому

      @@Katieyhughes no reason for you to act like this. And i am not a youtuber. It was a suggestion as i know many astrophotographers who post multiple times a week. So it was just a suggestion. And you better mind your own business as it’s not your channel. So stop poking your nose in everything.
