Released in the winter of 1981. American pressings of the single list Dexter Wansel as producer. European pressings list Kenneth Gamble as producer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Jones Girls, a trio of sisters from Detroit; Brenda, Shirley and Valorie, released their first of a string of unsuccessful singles in 1970. By the middle '70s they were doing background session work for other artists like Lamont Dozier, Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin, and Linda Clifford. From 1975-1978, they provided tour back-up for Diana Ross. Diana connected them with Philadelphia International Records, the home of songwriting/production duo Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. It was with PIR, in 1979, that they broke through with the gold certified R&B Top 5 single "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else". A handful of albums followed throughout the next five years whilst continuing background session work. Shirley Jones had a solo R&B #1 with "Do You Get Enough Love" in 1986. Shirley is the only surviving sister. Another notable Jones Girls song is "Who Can I Run To". Their version was not a single but the girl group Xscape took the song to #1 (R&B), #8 (Pop) in 1995.
2 months ago you reacted to The Jones Girls (You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else), and I told you about the impeccable production of (Nights Over Egypt). ...Good reaction!
First heard this at a house party in London back in (I think) ‘ 82/‘83. I can still picture who was there and where I was at the time. It became a classic for coming down at clubs and at after parties. I still totally love this track for it’s strong groove and tight vocals. ❤️❤️❤️ I’ve said this before….. your taste in music is 100% 👍🏽 and renews my faith in young people 😂.
Taste of Honey "Sukiyaki". You've got a very good ear for music, young brother. Dexter Wansel produced this song. He was a Philly Soul maestro. You should check "Just Us" by Two Tons of Fun, "Hold Tight" by Change, "Angel of the Night", "Let Me Be the One", "I Try" by Angela Bofill, "How Bout Us" by Champaign. "What's Your Name", "I'm In Love With You", "Share My World" by DeBarge
Sorry Jack...I had to correct myself. Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff produced some of the Jones Girls music, but this particular track was produced by Dexter Wansel. Sorry for the confusion.
Written and produced by Dexter Wansel and Cynthia Biggs. Out of Philadelphia, released in 1981. They're Sisters. You're thinking about A Taste of Honey and you're correct in the same era.
Just finding you. This is music from MY time. Thanks for giving it fresh life! Yes, the Jones Girls were the bomb. Bigger in Europe than here in the USA. They’re from Detroit. Backed some Motown groups and others for years.
I've never heard this song or the group before (but it's a sign and confirmation because my dad is planning on going to Egypt for the first time this month! 🎶Your eyes can't believe what your mind can't conceive!). I only know them as the original singers of Xscape's cover of 🎵Who Can I Run To, which I've never bothered to listen to! This song sounds like something that Mariah has sampled (or would sample) for a retro vibe. One word to describe this song is "dreamy."
The funk/ smooth jazz influences and arrangements sound beautiful. The Jones Girls have great harmonies. Top tier productions right here. Live instrumentation is so important....man, does this sound good sonically.
Valorie, Brenda and Shirley Jones are sisters. They received their big break touring and singing back ground vocals for Diana Ross. Diana was so impressed with their harmonies, she encouraged the Jones sisters to break out on their own as a group. The world lost the gifts of Valorie in 2001 and Brenda Jones in 2022. RIP
@devildee9286 0 seconds ago All I have to say to you is Leon Huff. Ok now go down the rabbit of his accomplishments. And also they are sisters hence the amazing harmonies
nothing to do with Quincy jones you just had high numerous quality soul acts like this between 1976 and 1986 greatest era of soul ,rnb hands down even though i was in my twenties in the late 90s this era is umequaled check out jones girls dance turned into a romance and do you get enough love
Hey jack when you use to your request live stream i had requested the original version these ladies and their voices their harmonizing is impeccable the production 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Listen to the utterly sublime "Touch Me Again", the cinematic "The Paper" the mountainous "Strangers" and the exquisitely wee "I Want You" by the great Deniece Williams ❤
Just listened to that one and there was no comparison there at all! The whole point was to make you feel like you were there, or watching a movie of a long ago past of being in Egypt /Africa, the Sahara, where life began. Dexter Wansel captured this sound to take you there. Changing the temple to an upbeat just changed the whole fantasy. The original takes you there, no comparison to at all

This is the Jam!!!
i always liked this track, and it's still cute, but the re-make by Jocelyn Brown/Maysa Leak (Incognito) blows the original out of the water.
I seriously doubt it I will listen to see
