Been listening to maiden since middle school in the mid eighties. I love to hear talented men and women cover songs such as this one. This cover is very peaceful and appealing to the ears. He did a really nice job.
This is awesome and shows just how good at songwriting the members of Maiden are. One of the marks of a great song is that it will stand up to completely different versions. Credit to Ryan for doing a great cover.
I would imagine Steve Harris played this to the band on the acoustic guitar the first time he conveyed the song to them. Then they "Maidenised" it. Fabulous song whoever plays it.
@@AndalusianIrish Incidentally I saw Iron Maiden in the Cart and Horses pub in the East London in 1976, I was 21 yrs old. My old school mate Paul Mario Day was making his singing debut for them that night. I didn't know he could sing 😲 I still keep in touch with him. He now lives in Australia. Little did I know I was unwittingly part of rock history. NOBODY back then knew what was ahead of Iron Maiden. Great days❤️😅
Yeah so many of those 80s songs had great lyrics and people don't know until you strip them down. The original is my favorite, but this one kind of hit me.
You realize what a beautifully written song this is when stripped down. I know real Maiden fans know how talented they really are just wish people outside the metal community knew.
Yeah when it's stripped down to an acoustic version with just the guitar and lyrics you can really appreciate just how strong the songwriting and lyrics by Iron Maiden really are. It's easy for some people to dismiss metal genres as "not real music" because it's loud and fast, but stuff like this proves that's simply not true. A lot of metal artists are some of the most technically proficient musicians in existence.
I've been out of the "metal community" since the mid 80's, and definitely know that Iron Maiden has song writing talent. I think most folks who truly appreciate music understand this, even if it's not the style they listen to most often. Just like I also know that Hank Williams Sr. was a very talented artist, but don't listen to his stuff much these days.
@@brentlanyon4654 I agree. I don't think real music fans feel that way, just that many people do. Check out Between the Buried and Me's covers of Queen vs their regular stuff if you haven't.
The original has aggression and power... a type of flamboyance that comes with metal band like Iron Maiden. This cover does what every great acoustic cover does - it exposes the true melody of the song. It gives it a whole new feeling. It's very rare to find two versions of one song that can say two very different things.
I know of a few of Adam's covers and he does them in a way that's perfect. ("Wonderwall"? A-maz-ing...) The original song is definitely present, but he finds another dimension in it. He respects the song while adding his fingerprints to it.

The fact that this sounds so great, in a completely different style from the original is a great testament to whatva fantastic song it is ......its not just a great metal song, its a fantastic piece of music. beloog99 Ryan does a great job, but as far as the caliber statement Ryan is a pimple on Bruce ass. And he she be honored to even listen to this song. All good. 👍
Absolutely wonderful.A great cover on a great song.
Sure looks like he is wearing an "Emperor" T-shirt. Man of many talents and tastes, that's for sure!
Gave me a new appreciation of this song! Usually, I am so into headbanging that I don't even listen to the lyrics let alone digest them. Good lyrics. Now I like both versions.
The man is brilliant... turning a Maiden song into an acoustic folk song takes some serious talent.
The reality is reversed
Everything he touches, turns into heavenly gold...
@Frank Noel So sad isn't it? I actually heard what's been going on with the accusations literally the day after I posted that comment. 😒 It's very disheartening when someone so talented uses it as manipulation.
This is even better than the "studio" version. Tapping his foot for the drum effect really kicks that portion of the song into a higher gear. Damn, this is good.
Absolutely fukkin amazing, iron maiden fan all my life and I never thought that anyone could make them sound like the current times, well done my friend, brilliant!!!!
It's pretty hard to improve on Iron Maiden. This is just brilliant. I think I like this as much as the original.
.....
@@HipsterEatinShark Dude, this guy is the best singer sing writer since Dylan, go listen to some of his lyrics, he LOVES METAL, so he pays homage to his favorite bands, he's just doing what he does in his style, but he listens to Metal. Give him a break, he's damned good in his own right. He knows its not as good as the original, because he loves Maiden UTI.....🤣
How good is this goosebumps what talent !
Emperor T shirt !! GREAT
Never imagined Wasted Years could be covered like this. So beautiful 😢
