About this place :-
The main peaks in this range are the eponymous Baba Budangiri (height 1895 m), Mullayanagiri (1930 m) and others. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak in the range. With a height of 1930 m (6317 ft), it is the fourth highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. There is a famous trekking trail between Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri.
The range is known for its extensive coffee plantations, one of the earliest and most extensive in India, said to have been started by the Sufi saint Baba Budan who is believed to be the first person to have brought coffee to the country by smuggling them out of Mocha, Yemen. His shrine located amongst three caves on the Baba Budangiri hill still serves as a pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Muslims. Dattatreya Peetha (or Datta Peetha), a Hindu religious place dedicated to the deity Dattatreya, is coextensive with the shrine.
Its origin appears to be a syncretization of reverence for an 11th-century Sufi, Dada Hayath (Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Aziz Makki); for the 17th century Sufi Baba Budan, said to have brought coffee to India; and forDattatreya, an incarnation of Shiva (or of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu).

Manikyadhara is a popular waterfall in Bababudangiri hills of Chikmagalur district.
Accessing Manikyadhara Waterfalls involves getting down 200+ steps. The view of the Western Ghats from Manikyadhara waterfalls area is captivating. Watchtowers and resting areas are available along the steps. Locals sell herbs and food products. Height of Manikyadhara Falls is 30 ft.
Best time to visit Manikyadhara Waterfalls: August to March is the best time to visit Manikyadhara Falls. Water levels may drop significantly in summer months, even though Manikyadhara waterfall is known never to dry up even during peak summer.
Places to visit near Manikyadhara Waterfalls: Mullayyanagiri Peak (26 km), Karnataka’s highest peak is often visited along with Manikyadhara Falls. Bababudangiri shrines are on the way to Manikyadhara Falls.
How to reach Manikyadhara Falls: Manikyadhara Falls is 278 kms from Bengaluru and 34 kms from Chikmagalur.
By Air: Mangaluru airport is the closest airport (185 kms)
By Train: Kadur Junction (71 kms) is the nearest railway station
By Road: Regular ksrtc bus service is available to reach Chikmagalur from all parts of Karnataka and from Chikmagalur city taxi can be hired to visit Manikyadhara Falls
Places to stay near Manikyadhara Waterfalls: No stay options in close proximity of Manikyadhara Falls. However Chikmagalur city (34 kms) has a budget as well as mid range hotels. Luxury resorts and homestays are available in different parts of Chikmagalur district.
