    Hello..I'm Cindy..I did a couple glass dollar tree plates myself with napkins and contact paper..you did a great job placing the roses and the little bees and butterfly..I like that you added the smaller flowers around the bee to tie everything together. ..I also like how you took the pattern to the rim and painted the rim gold..it brings out the golden flowers..I never would have thought to paint the back the same green color...great job 👌👍💯

    This is so beautiful. I'm new to decoupaging and have not used rice paper yet, so this video is extremely helpful in dispelling some nerves in giving it a go. Thanks for the video.

      Hi and thank you. This was a few years ago now. I think I just used a little gold paint on a brush. I just brushed it on very carefully. Alternatively, you could use a little gilt cream/wax. Hope this helps.

    Hi, loved this video, but wondered now it’s been varnished, would that make it waterproof.. or just suitable to wipe with damp cloth... many thanks...

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  3 роки тому +4

      Hi, the varnish sets very hard. To be fully waterproof you would need multiple coats, with a day's drying between each one plus at least 7 days to cure. I prefer to only do two or three coats of varnish and just wipe my items with a damp cloth to clean.

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  3 роки тому

      Hi, I haven't tried that myself yet but I have seen other people doing it online. Probably best to do a test on some scrap fabric first.

      Hi, Thanks for watching. I added the recipe to my description but here it is for you:
      How to make homemade Mod Podge:
      1 cup PVA glue (white craft glue)
      1/3 cup Water
      Mix together! So simple!
      I hope you enjoy découpage.

    This is so pretty but what if you're base is a different color then your paper how do u blend it together to make it look as one

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  11 місяців тому

      Hi and thank you. I prefer yo use a white or cream colour base but as long as you use a light colour it will be fine. A pastel or similar will work. The darker your base the less vibrant your image will be. I suggest playing around with colours to see what works for you. If you are wanting a darker finish you can découpage over white then paint around your image with a dark colour. If your base is very dark I would suggest using a different type of paper like wrapping paper or magazine cut outs.
      I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching.

    Really beautiful. But - is it waterproof? Could I wash it (by hand)?

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  7 місяців тому

      Hi, when I use this I clean it with a damp cloth. I wouldn't Immerse it in water but it is easily cleaned.

    How long did you wait in between the coats of varnish?

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  Рік тому

      The one I used was a couple of hours only but all depends on the temperature and the product you are using. The spray on one's have about an hours wait but some are 24 hours. Best to read the product labels to find one that suits you. I recommend only using a water based varnish as oil based turns yellow with time.

    Can you use parchment paper instead of cling wrap?

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  Рік тому

      You could try. I haven't found it successful myself. It is a bit to stiff and thick.

    My rice paper frayed and wouldn’t blend on my wood piece. Is it not recommended for wood?

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  4 місяці тому

      Perhaps poor quality paper? Usually it's absolutely fine on wood or any surface.

    You could burn the edges on the plate

    • @suzyscrafts
      @suzyscrafts  Рік тому

      Yes you could do that. The soot bothers me with that but on the right project it could be great. 🌺
