Since you have covered so many of the genres shes’s done, you must check out “Pirates Of Penzance” that she did on Broadway from the film. Her solo is Poor Wandering One… it’s light opera and really shows her range. Her albums are so beautifully produced and great songs. She says herself that she really has a soft spot for those ballads and she’s done so many perfectly. So much emotion but so clear and not tricky… just pure.
@@dlc1119 I know the history of The Eagles and that Linda encouraged Don and Glen to start their own band. They gave Linda the okay to record Desperado even though many agree that The Eagles did it better! That was the tune I meant that statemeant for!

I'm with Fred. I didn't know she did this either. And I'm from Linda's age group. Hopefully when Linda gets to heaven she will be given her voice back and will truly be singing with the angels.
I bought every album Linda put out in the 70s/80's! My favorites.. Willin', Desperado, You're No Good, Different Drum, Tracks of My Tears, Blue Bayuo, Just One Look, etc....
You absolutely must hear The Trio cd’s with the three of them. “High Sierra” is done by Linda and is awesome. Please check it out! They sing a lot of old songs and harmonies to die for!! ☮️❤️🌻🇺🇸
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock. She has had so many hits such as "Blue Bayou", "You're No Good", "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs.
Everytime i hear her, it just creates a joy I can't describe. I was lucky enough for her stuff to be contemporary with my young adulthood. As time goes by, I come to appreciate the artists of that era all the more. Everyone from Jackson Browne, to the Eagles, to ELP, to Yes, it was just an extraordinary era for music.
I’m soooo glad that someone is finally paying attention to the fact that Linda covered this song spectacularly nearly twenty years before Whitney Houston touched it. I must say this version is every bit as beautiful as Whitney’s. Thank you for doing this! There is much more to discover in her forty plus year catalogue. 🌺✌️
I Remember buying this Album at 14 years old in 1975, I fell in Love with this the second I heard it. I am a TRUE VERY LONG TIME FAN OF Linda Ronstadt!!
I was looking through your songlist and noticed you hadn't done Linda's beginning hit Different Drum with the Stone Poneys from 1967. It's the song that put her on the map. Be sure to do the studio version for best vocal sound if you plan it.
As you probably know Linda and Dolly have been close friends for decades. Linda included this on her Prisoner in Disguise album, there's even a note on the original album jacket from Dolly thanking her for using it. Kevin Costner was a big fan of this version and he brought it to Whitney Houston's attention when they were looking for a song to use in The Bodyguard which is how it came to be reworked and included. Actually the Prisoner in Disguise LP has some really great songs on it including the title track which Linda performs with backing vocals from JD Souther. It's beautifully plaintive and melancholy.
Linda did a cover of Patsy Cline's "Crazy" that is beautiful. I've not seen anyone react to it. Her soaring, emotional vocals make it a very special performance.
Linda Ronstadt goes hand in hand with my college days. There was Olivia Newton John, all the awesome bands, so many amazing artists but Everyone had every Linda Ronstadt album. I’m thrilled she is in the R & R Hall of Fame, but think she should have been decades ago! Also…so proud her hometown is mine too. 😊🌵
David Foster who produced the version of the song from the Bodyguard, wasn't familiar with the song. He drove into Long Beach to get a copy of Dolly's record. The record didn't have Dolly's recording but they had the album Prisoner In Disguise with Linda's recording. David said as soon as he heard Linda's recording he knew what they could do with the song. When Dolly found out David/Whitney were using Linda's recording as a template for theirs, she called David on the phone to give him the final verse, which Linda had no included in her recording. I am not a musician, but have several musician friend who all say the same thing. Foster's arrangement is taken from the Ronstadt recording, they just played with the melody line. Of course Houston's recording is not the same as Dolly or Linda's, in the respect that the song was not about romantic love, it was written as an owed to mentor song. What I like about Linda's cover is she hangs on the word "always", instead of the world "I".
I am so glad that you covered this version. It’s an often overlooked cover. Linda Ronstadt is a favorite of mine. She has been successful in every genre she has tried and recorded in. Rock, Latin, country, folk, and opera! She has racked up so many awards Including Kennedy Center, Honors, 11 Grammys, CMAs, Tony’s, inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame, received the National Medal of Arts and Humanities, etc. and was often referred to as the queen of rock. Her discography is amazing. It’s just heartbreaking what has happened to her voice forcing her to retire (vocal paralysis). I look forward to you covering more of her.
When will I be loved and Different Drummer are two of LIndas best. But she did it all. There's a great, great doc about her and her life call The Sound Of My Voice.

You need to check out the band trio which consisted of Dolly Parton Linda Ronstadt and emmylou Harris they got together and I think put together two albums I think they're first album was the Gold album The Best song or the song that I remember is these dreams
Linda may have been the first cover of this song when she recorded it for her 1975 "Prisoner in Disguise" album. Also, supposedly it was Linda's version that Kevin Costner played for Whitney Houston.
Linda did it Dolly’s way! An often overlooked reason for Whitney’s huge success on this song in addition to her great voice was the brilliant arrangement by the “ Hitman” himself, David Foster. I’d love to see you react to his songs for Earth, Wind and Fire ( After the Love Has Gone), Chaka Khan ( Through the Fire), Cheryl Lynn ( To Be Real), Chicago ( Glory of Love, You’re the Inspiration) , Celine Dion ( The Prayer) , Boz Scaggs ( Love Look What You’ve Done To Me) , Kenny Loggins ( Heart to Heart) and so many more! There are videos of his Hitman shows with all of these artists! Enjoy!!
Gorgeous, pure pipes. Powerful and tender- rare combination. First time I heard of Dolly Parton was reading her name on Ronstadt's platinum album "Prisoner in Disguise" where this little tune appeared. Cissy Houston, Whitney's mom, sang backup with Linda as well. Linda was and remains a remarkable musical creature. Thanks for your appreciation.

Dolly wrote the son when she broke up with Portter Wagner. Linda heard it and sang it some years later. Then Whitney Houston heard it and was singing it for her movie, but was only singing two verses. Dolly called to ask if they knew there were three verses. Whitney didn't know because she was singing it like a cover of Linda. Dolly sent the missing verse and Whitney added it to her rendition. I think the above is the reason Whitney's version is so much like Linda's.
Dolly Partan wrote the song, Linda Covered it in the mid 70s, Whitney then covered Linda's version in, I think, 1979. Whitney's version is an almost exact copy of Linda's version.
