This song breaks my heart. 😢 Her emotional range is so touching. I wish they had taped the complete show for future generations. ❤
beautiful beyond words and the perfect match of lyrics to melody. Bravo Mr. Bacharach and Ms. O'Hara.
A devastating song. Gorgeous writing and a powerful, raw performance by Jill O'Hara. Wow...bravo.
I never really realized how good this song, vocal and version are.... even after 50 years..
Great songs last a lifetime. This is one of those great songs.
Like many other people, I know this song from Dionne Warwick's version. But hearing Jill sing it is very special. She brings a sublime vulnerability to it.
I think it’s the best version. Her pain comes through. So sad she gave up Broadway so early on
This is treasure as a song and O'Hara's rendition so beautifully captures its passion and vulnerabity to touch the soul.
Terribly touching...
I still get goosebumps when I here her sing this. The raw emotion coupled with the lyrics is breathtaking.
The melody and lyrics of this song are beautiful. Whether it is Jill O'Hara, Betty Buckley, Kristen Chenowith, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis, Dianne Warwick, or even Bobby Short, I like them all.
Great memories. Beautiful song and sung beautifully by Jill. Saw play many times from backstage and always looked forward to hearing her sing.
how lucky you are!
enchanting melody superb lyrics...Jill is a must 11
saw Jill and Jerry ( and the great ed winter) in the original; Jill sang and gave the vocal vulnerability the songs required, unlike Kritin Chenowith's performance as Fran Kubelik. such a great original cast and great musical score. should be revivied more often.
That must have been cool..
I agree completely. It's a wonderful musical.
Yes, I saw the original cast on Broadway when I was a freshman in college with Jill and Jerry and Ed Winter. It was an incredibly wonderful production.
Burt. WOW! No other words.
WOW! Thanks a million for posting this! A wonderful and overlooked Bacharach number. My record Lp is so scratched, I can barely hear the piano--that's from playing it a billion times over many years of enjoyment!!
This is music.
RIP Hal David
Sensational
I was in an amateur performance of the show, Promises Promises, in Concord, California, in roughly 1980 or 1981. We did 20 performances. I was privileged to perform with about 30 other great actors and actresses. Hard to believe that my age has more than doubled since then.
The whole show has some great tunes in it including Promises Promises and I'll Never Fall In Love Again.
oh, the memories.
Does anyone know where I can get a karaoke of this?! ^_^
Não existe mais músicos como Bacharah 😢
Tony Bennett's version is amazing, it was on UA-cam for awhile, I guess it got pulled.
its is out on CD
Wonderful. Look for the "Make it Easy on Yourself" Bacharach album with hidden gems such as She's Gone Way and Pacific Coast Highway, and other songs from Promises, Promises.
I saw her in the 1960's on stage.
But, I never realized she has a Magnificent Voice.
She could have been a major recording artist.
Her problem was she was following Shirley MacLaine.
