- Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer Jack Whitaker, one of sports media's all-time great announcers and a WWII veteran, passed away Sunday. The man who called Super Bowl I for CBS was one of the most accomplished of TV’s early generation of wordsmiths.
Remember this legendary man's career with this tribute video from his 2012 Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame induction. - Спорт
This is a marvelous piece! Thank you so much for posting it. Please don’t ever take it down! 🤗
Best sport essayist in sport
The best sports essayist and envious at Jack Whitaker’s master of the English Language
Jack Whitaker was a great storyteller, essayist which his words summarized pictures of reality. Truly one of the best broadcasters ever. He will be missed. RIP Jack Whitaker! 1924-2019.
Thank you Mr. Whitaker for being gracious enough to grant my request to play your course, Shinnecock Hills in October of 1991. I truly enjoyed the round I played with you.
When I started watching NFL Football he was one of the best along with Ray Scott....Jack Buck ….Pat Summerall and Curt Gowdy
No event was complete without his essays. I loved hearing his perspective; it enriched every event he covered. RIP Jack.
Mr Whitaker, your enthusiasm gave me excitement in sports I might never have any interest in. Thank you for giving me an insight into other worlds of sports. You’re more than a sportscaster, you’re a legend. Thank you.
When it comes to command of the English language he's was anyone's equal and better than 99.9% of the rest of us. I'm 60 years old and still remember super bowl 3 and the 1973 Kentucky derby. God rest his soul.
Rest In Peace, good sir. You have earned your time with the immortals.
You mean immortalized.
Everyone else is a poor imitation. I could listen to him count backwards from 100 and still be captivated.
