Here is my first episode of my packrafting trip that I recently did in the Scottish Highlands, this was my first proper trip with this great piece of kit! I had such a amazing, chilled week exploring a little bit more of this beautiful landscape, this time by foot and raft.
I hope you enjoy the series, have a good one xo

The West coast has some of the most dangerous waters in the UK. The Clyde Fjord (Firth of Clyde) is demanding for its many underwater currents, tidal surges and no end of ferries to paddle around. Even though I know these waters there are still anomalies that throw me, especially when bad weather and Atlantic storms weigh in. As well as my last list of necessaries, a helmet too given the hidden rocks along the coast. A handheld VHF will keep you in touch with Belfast Coastguard for the individual weather systems in that neck of the woods. 08:08 and 20:08 usually is fine for forward planning.
    Take care Rebecca.
P.S. Deadlines are a moot point when you are travelling by sea. Your point of arrival is always further away than you think. As a rule of thumb I paddle around 5km/hour...much the same as I walk...and underwater currents and wind driven surface currents can throw your calculations.

Woooow hats off to you Becks And a biiiig hug for being a tough cookie . I took my daughter Sòph, kayaking loch lomond for a week. Big inflatable crap paddle .. i had to rush buy what i could in the short time her work holidays had allowed us , we paddled this barge around for a week ..got blown all over . Pretty mentally soul destroying twenty paddles to the left one to the right .. repeat repeat ,,,,,,, good fun when the wind stopped though . We did that loch 3 times .once to get a take away 😀😀😀 well worth it . It still feels like i have motorbike gloves on. Hands are that swolen . Anything air filled is a chor to steer and controll . you get hero status in my book x NO MATTER how hard the stay how bad the weather you always feel the place tugging at your soul to have another go

I could've sat there floating in that silence the whole day... so peaceful! 😊 I think I would have gone mental long ago with those midges! I don't know how you've managed to stay sane... although underwear hanging up next to your head and a bag of white powder does make me wonder! 🤭 Such a lovely adventure you're having Becky.

Nice, looks like a good trip. Scotland is best under 10deg to avoid midges lol. Even if it's hot I would always have a smoky fire nearby the wee buggers dont like smoke and E45 cream or vinegar and water washdown to take the sting out of those bites.

So if the wind is the prevailing wind, then my advice would be to wait for it to die down if you have the time. If you think you're better off going out with outgoing tide, it's worse. Wind against tide produces a very lumpy sea. Tough going in your little craft.
Your call. You must have written a few journals since you started "Girl Outdoors." Just a thought...why not put your entries into book form. Yes it takes time, and yes there are a few similar books on the market now. But speaking for myself, I'd buy it. And the next, and the next and so on. Until next time, take care. Atb from down here in Nz.

Isn't it wonderful to be in a place where the silence is absolute ? The world is so noisy so when you find conditions like that it is priceless. Do you like me find the midge net a little claustrophobic ? It is necessary though when those little devils come out. Fantastic video again Becks xx

When they were building the bridge over to Skye I talked to some of the workers who were staying at the same hostel as I was, and they said the midges got so bad they would use the grease that they have in those lube guns they have to smear it all exposed skin. I remember walking from Broadford and when I approached the sea the midges felt like fire .

    Keep up the good work.

Another great video. If you carry rubbing alcohol with you it works good on the itching from the bites. I wonder if those citronella candles would help kee6the midges out of your tent. The small ones that you can put in the little lantern holders you could hang in your tent. That area of Scotland you are in is absolutely beautiful. And I love the quiet also. Stay strong and safe.

Hi! I have had the same tent as you and unfortunately I had problems with the midges being able to get through the net. The only tents that can handle midges are Hilleberg. The best is the yellow label series. The black net is woven and this makes it absolutely tight. I really like your movies. Greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪

I enjoyed watching this outdoor adventure and wonderful experience you had. The only thing I disliked was I wanted to see more of it! Perhaps you could talk your sister into going with you next time. Did you like your Alpacka raft or did you find it to be a bit of a nuisance to have it deflate everytime you needed to get your gear out? I have a ridgid kayak, its a Swifty Deluxe, but I like the portablity that your inflatable Alpacka raft allows. Thanks.
